Characterizing and controlling infrared phonon anomaly of bilayer graphene in optical-electrical force nanoscopy

We,for the first time,report the nanoscopic imaging study of anomalous infrared(IR)phonon enhancement of bilayer graphene,originated from the charge imbalance between the top and bottom layers,resulting in the enhancement of E1u mode of bilayer graphene near 0.2 *** modified the multifrequency atomic force microscope platform to combine photo-induced force microscope with electrostatic/Kelvin probe force microscope constituting a novel hybrid nanoscale optical-electrical force imaging *** enables to observe a correlation between the IR response,doping level,and topographic information of the graphene *** the nanoscale spectroscopic image measurements,we demonstrate that the charge imbalance at the graphene interface can be controlled by chemical(doping effect via Redox mechanism)and mechanical(triboelectric effect by the doped cantilever)***,we can also diagnosis the subsurface cracks on the stacked few-layer graphene at nanoscale,by monitoring the strain-induced IR phonon *** approach provides new insights into the development of graphene-based electronic and photonic devices and their potential applications.

The effects of low energy X-ray irradiation on microbial inactivation,sprouting inhibition and genetic variation were *** was an inverse correlation between the exposure dose in range of 0 Gy–5000 Gy and the survival rate of *** dose of 1000 Gy seemed to be suitable for inactivation of microorganisms because the respective survival rate is relatively low (0.59%).Dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min was the most appropriate to inactivate the microorganisms,with the survival rate of 0.37%.Applying the irradiation dose of 1000 Gy and dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min,there was a significant sprouting inhibition of irradiated potatoes compared to the control for six months *** effect of irradiation dose (100–1200 Gy) and dose rate (8.63–19.62 Gy/min) on genetic variation of the irradiated samples was assessed by DNA fingerprints induced from using three molecular techniques including Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD),Start Codon Targeted Polymorphism (SCoT) and CAAT box – derived polymorphism (CBDP).At the irradiation dose of 1000 Gy and dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min,the level of genetic variation was relatively low (4.85%).Thus,this treatment is a suitable condition of irradiation for potato treatment with the purpose of preservation.

The Effect of Stocking Density on the Behaviour and Welfare Indexes of Broiler Chickens

The effect of three stocking densities, ranging from 30 to 44 kg product per m2 on the performance, behaviour and welfare indexes in broiler chicken was investigated. Scan sampling for comparative behavior in all groups was carried out at 2 min intervals during 2-20 min periods for five days each week. It was found that the most common behaviour in all densities was lying （resting）, lying and standing behaviour was tended to increase in H than L group of all experimental period. Pecking behaviour was not constantly changed by stocking density. Locomotion was not only reduced with increasing age but increase stocking density of all experimental period and all groups. Body weight gain and feed efficient were, tend to increase in L than H group of 2 to 3 weeks ages, higher in L than H group （P 〈 0.05） of 4 to 5 weeks ages and all experimental period. Other behaviours （dustbathing, preening, eating or drinking） were not influenced （P 〉 0.05） by stocking density. It seems that gait, foot pad and hock burn score were improved in L than H group of 35 days age （P 〈 0.05）. The claw length of 21 days age was not affected by stocking density, but it was significantly different by stocking density of 35 days age （P 〈 0.05）. The duration of tonic immobility （TI-reaction） was tended to decreased age of 21 than 35 days, but not effected by stocking density. These data indicate that stocking density can influence broiler behaviour and welfare indexes.

Summaryof main observation and conclusion Understanding and optimizing structure of active sites is of significance in zeolite *** ethylation is an industrially important process catalyzed by H-MCM-22 zeolite;while the active sites still remain *** this work,density functional theory(DFT)calculations were employed to investigate the benzene ethylation at two different types of Br?nsted acid sites(BAS)in H-MCM-22 zeolite,namely the internal cavity(IC)acid site and the external surface(ES)acid *** the stepwise and concerted pathways were *** compari-son of the calculated energetics of two pathways indicates that the benzene ethylation reaction primarily proceeds via the concerted pathway at both the IC and ES acid sites of *** calculated overall Gibbs free energies at reaction condition(473 K and 3.5 MPa)on the IC and ES acid sites are 90 and 86 kJ/mol,with the rate constants of 1.20×10^3and 2.92×10^3s^-1,*** indicates that benzene ethylation could occur both on the IC and ES acid sites,with the catalytic activity of IC acid site being slightly lower than that of ES acid ***,we theoretically reveal that the acid strength at the ES site is slightly weaker than that at the IC site via the frequency shift after the adsorption of *** differences in dispersion interaction between ES and IC sites are also quantified by the adsorption of base molecules with different *** calculated results in this work demonstrate that the acid sites at the external surface of H-MCM-22 zeolites are suitable for benzene ethylation to produce ethylbenzene,providing theoretical implications for tailoring the distribution of active sites in H-MCM-22 zeolite.

Dear Editor, In 2011, son et al. （2011） reported that the forced expression of selected transcription factors is sufficient to convert mouse and human fibroblasts into induced motor neurons （iMNs）. The authors used three factors （Ascll, Brn2, and Mytll） to convert fibroblasts into neuronal-like ceils. After confirming that the cells had neuronal morphology, but with absence of motor neuron markers, eight candidate transcription factors were added, which participate in various stages of motor neuron specification. As expected, a significant number of motor cells emerged with known characteristics of cultured embryonic motor neurons.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by insulin deficiency due to the loss of beta cells in the islets of *** severe cases,islet transplantation into the portal vein is ***,due to the loss of transplanted islets and the failure of islet function,the 5-year insulin independence rate of these patients ismin-6)-encapsulated alginate bioink and poly(caprolactone)biodegradable polymer.A glucose response assay revealed that the bioprinted constructs proliferated and released insulin normally during the 4-week in vitro *** min-6 generated clusters with a diameter of 100-200μm,similar to the original pancreatic islets in the *** an in vivo study using type 1 diabetes mice,animals implanted with bioprinted constructs showed three times higher insulin secretion and controlled glucose levels at 8 weeks after *** the implanted,bioprinted constructs had a positive effect on insulin secretion in the experimental animals,the survival rate of the implanted group(75%)was three times higher than that of the non-implanted group(25%).The results suggest that the proposed,3 D-bioprinted,subcutaneous construct can be a better alternative to portal vein islet transplantation.

Plasma level and genetic variation of apolipoprotein E in patients with lipoprotein glomerulopathy

Background Lipoprotein glomerulopathy (LPG) is a renal disease characterized by thrombus-like lipoproteins in the glomerular capillaries and its abnormal lipoprotein profiles with marked elevation of apolipoprotein E (apoE). In this study, 15 Chinese patients with LPG were involed in exploring the association of the genetic variation and its plasma level in the pathogenesis of *** A retrospective analysis of the clinical and pathological features was made in 15 patients with LPG. Plasma concentrations of apoE were measured with radial immunodiffusion assay. Genetic variations of apoE gene were detected using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism. Glomerular deposition of apoA, apoB and apoE in these patients were detected by immunofluorescence staining using monoclonal antibodies. Results Biochemical profiles of lipids and lipoproteins revealed markedly elevated levels of triglyceride, apoB and apoE, but approximately normal levels of total cholesterol, apoA1 and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], which resembled familial hypertriglyceridemia. Genetic analysis demonstrated that the genotype distribution of apoE were 7 cases with (ε3/ε 4,)4 cases with ε3/ε 3 and 2 cases with ε2/ε 3. The other 2 cases (a mother and her son) showed a same distinct band. The band pattern of later 2 cases was quite similar to the apoE variant of Tokyo type. The calculated allele frequency of ε 4 was relatively high in cases with LPG in comparison with that in the normal controls. We further divided the 13 patients into three groups according to their genotypes of apoE. Patients with the genotype of apoE ε2/ε3 showed a lower level of plasma apoE as compared to those with apoE ε3/ε4 (P<0.05). The serum level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was the lowest in patients with the genotype of apoE ε3/ε4. Long term exposure of skin to high temperature induces activation of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1(TRPV-1), as well as increase of matrix metalloprotease 9(MMP-9), which breaks down extracellular matrix in skin. Thus, along with photo-aging, heat also accelerates skin-aging as a long term effect. Here, heat-absorbing substances with heat energy-blocking effects were screened, and the blockage rate was calculated as "Thermal Protection Factor(TPF)". Herbal plant extracts such as Prunus Mume fruit extract and Chamaecyparis Obtusa polysaccharide were able to reduce skin damage by reducing TRPV-1 activation, heat-induced MMP-9 expression and other heat-induced inflammatory responses such as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) expression. Also, a cream containing heat-absorbing and modulating actives showed statistically significant skin elasticity and redness-controlling effects in a clinical study.

Virologic characteristics of hepatitis B virus in patients infected via maternal-fetal transmission

AIM: To determine whether HBV with the same characteristics causes dissimilar mutations in different hosts. METHODS: Full-length HBV genome was amplified and linked with pMD T18 vector. Positive clones were selected by double-restriction endonuclease digestion (EcoRⅠ and HindⅢ) and PCR. Twenty seven clones were randomly selected from an asymptomatic mother [at two time points: 602 (1 d) and 6022 (6 mo)] and her son [602 (S)], and the phylogenetic and mutational analysis was performed using BioEditor, Clustal X and MEGA software. Potential immune epitopes were determined by the Stabilized Matrix Method (SMM), SMM-Align Method and Emini Surface Accessibility Prediction. RESULTS: All of the 27 sequences were genotype C, the divergence between the mother and son was 0%-0.8%. Compared with another 50 complete sequences of genotype C, the mother and her son each had 13 specific nucleotides that differed from the other genotype C isolates. AA 1-11 deletion in preS1 was the dominant mutation in the mother (14/18). The 1762T/1764A double mutation existed in all clones of the mother, 3 of them were also coupled with G1896A mutation, but none were found in the son.17 bp deletion starting at nucleotide 2330 was the major mutation (5/9) in the son, which caused seven potential HLA class Ⅰ epitopes and one B cell epitope deletion, and produced a presumptive new start codon, downstream from the original one of the P gene. CONCLUSION: The HBV strain in the son came from his mother, and discrepant mutation occurred in the mother and her son during infection.
