Is Peer Victimization Associated with Higher Online Trolling among Adolescents? The Mediation of Hostile Attribution Bias and the Moderation of Trait Mindfulness

Background: In recent years, online trolling has garnered significant attention due to its detrimental effects on mental health and social well-being. The current study examined the influence of peer victimization on adolescent online trolling behavior, proposing that hostile attribution bias mediated this relationship and that trait mindfulness moderated both the direct and indirect effects. Methods: A total of 833 Chinese adolescents completed the measurements of peer victimization, hostile attribution bias, trait mindfulness, and online trolling. Moderated mediation analysis was performed to examine the relationships between these variables. Results: After controlling for gender and residential address, the study found a significant positive correlation between peer victimization and online trolling, with hostile attribution bias serving as a mediator. In addition, trait mindfulness moderated the direct relationship between peer victimization and online trolling. Specifically, the effect of peer victimization on online trolling was attenuated when adolescents had high levels of trait mindfulness. The results of the study emphasized the joint role of peer and personal factors in adolescents’ online trolling behavior and provide certain strategies for intervening in adolescents’ online trolling behavior. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that strategies focusing on peer support and mindfulness training can have a positive impact on reducing online trolling behavior, promoting adolescents’ mental health, and their long-term development. © 2024 The Authors.

Mechanical Simulation of a Diatom Frustule Structure

Diatoms possess intricately complicated nanopatterned silica outer shells, the so called frustules. Due to their excellent three-dimensional （3D） nanostructures, diatom frustules have attracted attentions from many fields to look for potential appli- cations, such as structural material design, light harvesting, photonics, molecular separation and bio-sensing. However, the mechanical property of frustule, especially the role of each single portion that structures a frustule, need to be clearly examined in order to provide a scientific support to frustule utilization. The reported work uses the Finite-Element （FE）-based simulation to investigate the relative mechanical properties of the frustule of the diatom Coscinodiscus sp. as compared with reference non-frustule structures. A three-dimensional model for the three featured layers of this frustule and a simplified model for its girdle band are built with the assistance of ABAq.S. A basic-cell concept is suggested; and the comparative results of several simulation groups are reported. The numerical results indicate that the seven-unit-cell model is able to catch the essential me- chanics of the Coscinodiscus sp. frustule under pressure and that the layered and porous structure of this frustule can effectively resist pressure.

Early prediction of severe acute pancreatitis by urinary trypsinogen activation peptide

Objective: To investigate the value of urinary trypsi-nogen activation peptide (TAP) in the early predic-tion of severe acute pancreatitis and to compare itwith acute physiology and chronic health evaluationⅡ (APACHE Ⅱ).Methods: We assessed the predictive value of urinaryTAP concentrations measured by a competitive en-zyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Urine sampleswere collected for detecting TAP concentrations atadmission, and 24, 48, and 72 h from 41 patientswith acute pancreatitis (12 with severe disease, 29with mild disease) who presented within 48 h the on-set of symptoms and from 11 control patients, whileAPACHE Ⅱ scores were recorded at 48 h after ***: The peak median urinary TAP concentrationwas seen at admission. The median urinary TAPconcentration at admission for severe pancreatitis (95nmol/L) was significantly higher than the medianfor patients with mild pancreatitis (20 nmol/L, P<0. 005) and controls (15 nmol/L, P<0. 005). TAPconcentrations were significantly higher in patientswith severe acute pancreatitis than the median in pa-tients with mild pancreatitis (P<0. 05) and controls(P<0. 05) on days 2 to 3. The median APACHE Ⅱscores of severe patients were significantly differentfrom those of mild patients (10.5 vs 6.0, P<0.01).The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive, andnegative predictive values of an admission urinaryTAP≥35 nmol/L for severe pancreatitis were91.7%, 89.7%, 78.6% and 96.3%, whereas 48 hafter admission the values for APACHE Ⅱ scores(≥9) were 75.0%, 72.7%, 52.9% and 87.5%. Inprediction of disease severity, the urine TAP concen-tration was much better than APACHE Ⅱ at 48 ***: Urinary TAP obtained at the first 48 hof the onset of symptoms can predict severe acutepancreatitis. In prediction of disease severity, theurinary TAP is much better than APACHE Ⅱ score.

Perigeniculate arachnoid cysts and CSF fistulae of the fallopian canal:Histopathologic correlates of a rare clinical entity

Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)fistulae originating from the fallopian canal of the facial nerve is hypothesized to arise due to atypical patterns of subarachnoid space extension into the geniculate ganglion or more distal regions along the intratemporal course of the facial nerve,but its pathogenesis remains poorly *** a rare etiology of CSF fistulae of the temporal bone,there are significant clinical ramifications due to the risk of recurrent meningitis,difficulty in identifying the anatomic location of the CSF leak,and technical challenges associated with surgical *** present three clinical cases of arachnoid cysts within the geniculate fossa with or without CSF fistulization and provide histopathologic correlates of this rare clinical phenomenon from a human temporal bone *** pediatric and adult patients presented suggest differential pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with CSF *** bone histology reveals atypical patterns of subarachnoid space extension in the fallopian canal that may underlie arachnoid cyst formation and overt CSF leak from the geniculate region.

Schisanhenol ameliorates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease via inhibiting miR-802 activation of AMPK-mediated modulation of hepatic lipid metabolism

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), characterized by hepatic steatosis, is a common metabolic liver disease worldwide. Currently, satisfactory drugs for NAFLD treatment remain lacking. Obesity and diabetes are the leading causes of NAFLD, and compounds with anti-obesity and anti-diabetic activities are considered suitable candidates for treating NAFLD. In this study, biochemical and histological assays revealed that a natural lignan schisanhenol (SAL) effectively decreased lipid accumulation and improved hepatic steatosis in free fatty acid (FFA)-treated HepG2 cells and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD mice. Further, molecular analyses, microRNA (miRNA)-seq. and bioinformatics analyses revealed that SAL may improve NAFLD by targeting the miR-802/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway. Liver-specific overexpression of miR-802 in NAFLD mice significantly impaired SAL-mediated liver protection and decreased the protein levels of phosphorylated (p)-AMPK and PRKAB1. Dual-luciferase assay analysis further confirmed that miR-802 inhibits hepatic AMPK expression by binding to the 3' untranslated region of mouse Prkab1 or human PRKAA1. Additionally, genetic silencing of PRKAA1 blocked SAL-induced AMPK pathway activation in FFA-treated HepG2 cells. The results demonstrate that SAL is an effective drug candidate for treating NAFLD through regulating miR-802/AMPK-mediated lipid metabolism. © 2024 The Authors

The chemoselective hydrodeoxygenation of natural lignocellulosic materials plays a crucial role in converting biomass into value-added *** their complex molecular structures often req.ire multiple active sites synergy for effective activation and achieving high ***,it is reported that a high-entropy alloy (HEA) on high-entropy oxide (HEO)hetero-structured catalyst for highly active,chemoselective,and robust vanillin *** heterogenous HEA/HEO catalysts were prepared by thermal reduction of senary HEOs (NiZnCuFeAIZrOx),where exsolvable metals (e.g.,Ni,Zn,Cu) in situ emerged and formed randomly dispersed HEA nanoparticles anchoring on the HEO *** catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance:100%conversion of vanillin and 95%selectivity toward high-value 2-methyl-4 methoxy phenol at low temperature of 120℃,which were attributed to the synergistic effect among HEO matrix(with abundant oxygen vacancies),anchored HEA nanoparticles (having excellent hydrogenolysis capability),and their intimate hetero-interfaces(showing strong electron transferring effect).Therefore,our work reported the successful construction of HEA/HEO heterogeneous catalysts and their superior multifunctionality in biomass conversion,which could shed light on catalyst design for many important reactions that are complex and req.ire multifunctional active sites.

Effect of fore/aft-loaded rotor on compressor stability under inlet circumferential distortion

A modified small perturbation stability prediction model for axial compressors with circumferential inlet distortions is established and applied to investigate the effect of fore/aft-loaded rotor on compressor stability under circumferentially distorted inlet *** inlet total pressure distribution downstream of the distortion screen is measured in experiments and employed for simulations which are implemented via time-space spectral *** stall inception prediction results via the stability model indicate that the compressor with aft-loaded rotor not only performs better in terms of stability under uniform inlet,but also maintains a larger stability margin under circumferentially distorted *** experiments for compressors with fore-loaded and aft-loaded rotor are respectively carried *** results validate the reliability of numerical simulations and the predicted conclusion that the aft-loaded rotor is beneficial for compressor ***,the ability of the developed theoretical model for compressor stability prediction under circumferential distortions is *** addition,dynamic pressure signals at rotor tip measured in experiments illustrate that the circumferential distortion has little effect on the compressor stall pattern.

A Methodology for Assessing Axial Compressor Stability with Inlet Temperature Ramp Distortion

Based on a small perturbation stability model for periodic flow,the effects of inlet total temperature ramp distortion on the axial compressor are investigated and the compressor stability is q.antitatively *** the beginning,a small perturbation stability model for the periodic flow in compressors is proposed,referring to the governing eq.ations of the Harmonic Balance *** stability model is validated on a single-stage low-speed compressor TA36 with uniform inlet ***,the unsteady flow of TA36 with different inlet total temperature ramps and constant back pressure is simulated based on the Harmonic Balance *** on these simulations,the compressor stability is analyzed using the proposed small perturbation ***,the Dynamic Mode Decomposition method is employed to accurately extract pressure *** two parameters of the temperature ramp,ramp rate and Strouhal number,are discussed in this *** results indicate the occurrence and extension of hysteresis loops in the rows,and a decrease in compressor stability with increasing ramp *** performance is divided into two phases,stable and limit,based on the ramp ***,the model predictions suggest that a decrease in period length and an increase in Strouhal number lead to improved compressor *** DMD results imply that for compressors with inlet temperature ramp distortion,the increase of high-order modes and oscillations at the rotor tip is always the signal of decreasing stability.

SYNTHESIS OF ULTRAFINE PLZT POWDER BY A SIMPLE CO-PRECIPITATION METHOD

Starting from cheap inorganic salts , ultrafine P L Z T po w ders were synthesized by a co pre cipitation m ethod . The results show that the precursor precipitate obtained by the co precipita tion method transfor ms co m pletely to P L Z T phase by calcining at 420 ℃ for 4 hours , about300 ℃low er than the nor m al transform ation te m perature of P L Z T obtained by m ixed oxidemethod . The effect of residual N H4 N O3 in the precursor precipitate on transfor m ation te m perature of the P L Z Tpow der w as investigated . The residual N H4 N O3 in the precursor po w der can reduce further the P L Z Ttransfor m ation tem perature to about 300 ℃, but a sm alla mount of Zr O2 and Pb Ti O3 re m ained . By a proper control of the synthesizing route , a P L Z T po w der with a pri m ary particle size of 10 n m and an agglom eration size of 0 3 μm hasbeen produced .
