Preoperative serum alkaline phosphatase： a predictive factor for early hypocalcaemia following parathyroidectomy of primary hyperparathyroidism

Background Postoperative hypocalcemia is one of the most common complications following parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism （PHPT）. The aim of this study was to analyze the predictive value of biochemical parameters as indicators for episodes of hypocalcemia in patients undergoing parathyroidectomy for PHPT. Methods The patients with PHPT who underwent parathyroidectomy between February 2004 and February 2014 were studied retrospectively at a single medical center. The patients were divided into biochemical, clinical, and no postoperative hypocalcemia groups, based on different clinical manifestations, Potential risk factors for postoperative hypocalcemia were identified and investigated by univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results Of the 139 cases, 25 patients （18.0%） were diagnosed with postoperative hypocalcemia according to the traditional criterion. Univariate analysis revealed only alkaline phosphatase （ALP） and the small area under the curve （AUG） of receiver operating characteristics （ROC） curve for ALP demonstrates low accuracy in predicting the occurrence of postoperative hypocalcemia. Based on new criteria, 22 patients were added to the postoperative hypocalcemia group and similar biochemical parameters were compared. The serum ALP was a significant independent risk factor for postoperative hypocalcemia （P=0.000） and its AUC of ROC curve was 0.783. The optimal cutoff point was 269 U/L and the sensitivity and specificity for prediction were 89.2% and 64.3%, respectively. Conclusions The risk of postoperative hypocalcemia after parathyroidectomy should be emphasized for patients with typical symptoms of hypocalcemia despite their serum calcium level is in normal or a little higher range. Serum ALP is a predictive factor for the occurrence of postoperative hypocalcemia.

Developing a cost-effective and environmentally friendly process for the production of valuable chemicals from abundant herbal biomass receives great attentions in recent ***,taking advantage of the“lignin first”strategy,corn straw is converted to valuable chemicals including lignin monomers,furfural and 5-methoxymethylfurfural via a two steps *** key of this research lies in the development of a green and low-cost catalytic process utilizing magnetic Raney Ni catalyst and high boiling point ethylene *** utilization of neat ethylene glycol as the sole slovent under atmospheric conditions obviates the need for additional additives,thereby facilitating the entire process to be conducted in glass flasks and rendering it highly convenient for scaling *** the initial step,depolymerization of corn straw lignin resulted in a monomer yield of 18.1 wt%.Subsequently,in a dimethyl carbonate system,the carbohydrate component underwent complete conversion in a one-pot process,yielding furfural and 5-methoxymethylfurfural as the primary products with an impressive yield of 47.7%.

Cells are the fundamental units of biological systems and exhibit unique development trajectories and molecular features. Our exploration of how the genomes orchestrate the formation and maintenance of each cell, and control the cellular phenotypes of various organismsis, is both captivating and intricate. Since the inception of the first single-cell RNA technology, technologies related to single-cell sequencing have experienced rapid advancements in recent years. These technologies have expanded horizontally to include single-cell genome, epigenome,proteome, and metabolome, while vertically, they have progressed to integrate multiple omics data and incorporate additional information such as spatial sc RNA-seq and CRISPR screening. Single-cell omics represent a groundbreaking advancement in the biomedical field,offering profound insights into the understanding of complex diseases, including cancers. here, we comprehensively summarize recent advances in single-cell omics technologies, with a specific focus on the methodology section. This overview aims to guide researchers in selecting appropriate methods for single-cell sequencing and related data analysis.

Efficient generation of complex vectorial optical fields with metasurfaces

Vectorial optical fields(VOFs)exhibiting arbitrarily designed wavefronts and polarization distributions are highly desired in ***,current methods to generate them either require complicated setups or exhibit limited functionalities,which is unfavorable for integration-optics ***,we propose a generic approach to efficiently generate arbitrary VOFs based on metasurfaces exhibiting full-motrix yet inhomogeneous Jones-matrix *** illustrate our strategy with analytical calculations on a model system and an experimental demonstration of a meta-device that can simultaneously deflect light and manipulate its *** on these benchmark results,we next experimentally demonstrate the generation of a far-field VOF exhibiting both a vortex wavefront and an inhomogeneous polarization ***,we design/fabricate a meta-device and experimentally demonstrate that it can generate a complex near-field VOF-a cylindrically polarized surface plasmon wave possessing orbital angular momentum-with an efficiency of-34%.Our results establish an efficient and ultracompact platform for generating arbitrary predesigned VOFs in both the near-and far-fields,which may find many applications in optical manipulation and communications.

Formation of Nuclei With {111}<110> and {111}<112> Orientations of IF Steel at Early Stage of Recrystallization Using EBSD Analysis

The excellent deep drawability of interstitial free steel （IF steel） is closely related to its texture formed during recrystallization. The nucleation process of cold rolled IF steel at the early stage of recrystallization was inves-tigated by electron back scattered diffraction （EBSD）. The characteristics of the microstructure after deformation and the orientation of nucleation were observed. The results show that the deformed microstructure with 80% reduction could be subdivided into two groups. These two types of microstructure were characterized by their orientation and internal local misorientations. The nuclei with γ-orientation preferred to form in deformed bands with γ-orientation and at the boundaries between deformed grains with different orientations. The recrystallized grains with { 111 } 〈 110〉 orientation appeared firstly in deformed matrix with {111} 〈112〉 orientation and consumed the matrix with {111 } 〈112〉 to grow up, while the recrystallized grains with {111} 〈112〉 orientation were observed secondly in de-formed matrix with { 111 }〈110〉 orientation and consumed matrix with { 111} 〈110〉 to grow up.

Expression of human β-subunit nerve growth factor(hNGFB) in yeast Pichia pastoris and ***

The gene hNGFB encoding the β subunit of human nerve growth factor (hNGF) was cloned into P. pastoris secretive expression vector pHIL-S1 and E. coli expression vector pET-15b. The recombinant hNGFB vectors pSNGF and pET15b-NGF were transformed into P. pastoris host cell GS115 (Mut^+ , His^- ) and E. coli strain BL21 (DE3) respectively. Expression and secretion of hNGFB in *** was attempted under the direction of the AOX1 promoter and PHO1 signal sequence. The positive colonies growing on medium without histidine were further selected by PCR. The yield of rehNGFB in GS115 was about 14.4% of total cellular secretive protein. The secreted protein was immunological active on Western blotting with rabbit anti-mNGFB antibodies. The fusion protein yield of rehNGFB in E. coli BL21 (DE3) was about 10.3% of total cellular protein after IPTG induction. Western blot detection showed its immunological activity.

Semantic segmentation-assisted instance feature fusion for multi-level 3D part instance segmentation

Recognizing 3D part instances from a 3D point cloud is crucial for 3D structure and scene *** learning-based approaches use semantic segmentation and instance center prediction as training tasks and fail to further exploit the inherent relationship between shape semantics and part *** this paper,we present a new method for 3D part instance *** method exploits semantic segmentation to fuse nonlocal instance features,such as center prediction,and further enhances the fusion scheme in a multi-and cross-level *** also propose a semantic region center prediction task to train and leverage the prediction results to improve the clustering of instance *** method outperforms existing methods with a large-margin improvement in the PartNet *** also demonstrate that our feature fusion scheme can be applied to other existing methods to improve their performance in indoor scene instance segmentation tasks.

Tailoring impedance match and enhancing microwave absorption of Fe3O4/Bi24Fe2O39/Bi hollow porous microrods by controlling their composition

A self-assembly/precipitate conversion/decomposition process was developed for the controllable synthesis of Fe3O4/Bi24Fe2O39/Bi hollow porous microrods（HPMRs）.The results demonstrated that the crystal size,component,and performances of HPMRs could be effectively modulated via changing Fe2+/Bi3+molar ratio（γ）.Fe3O4/Bi24Fe2O39/Bi HPMRs exhibited ferromagnetic behavior at room *** Bi and Bi24Fe2O39contents increased withγ,the saturation magnetization Msand attenuation constantly decreased,whereas coercivity Hcand impedance matching ratio *** Fe3O4with small quantities of Bi and Bi24Fe2O39into HPMRs can significantly enhance microwave ***3O4/Bi24Fe2O39/Bi HPMRs formed atγ=1:0.25 exhibited the optimum microwave absorption *** minimum RLwas-47.3 dB at8.72 GHz,corresponding to 2.4 mm sample *** absorption band with the reflection loss below-20 dB was up to 14.0 GHz for the absorber with a thickness of 1.4-8.0 *** results demonstrate that the introduction of electromagnetic transparent materials(Bi24Fe2O39or Bi)can improve the microwave absorption performances of Fe3O4composites owing to enhanced impedance matching rather than attenuation constant.
