Biodiesel production had received a considerable attention as a green, non-toxic and renewable alternative to petroleum diesel. To avoid using vegetable oils, which are expensive and compete with food, as feedstock, waste oils have been proposed. However, these waste materials contain a large amount of free fatty acids that complicates the production process. In this work, biodiesel production using an alternative feedstock;namely oils from date-pits, has been investigated. These oils have the same favorable features of straight oils, and at the same time are considered waste, since they are extracted from a waste material. The yield of oils extracted using n-hexane in a Soxhlet apparatus was compared to that of oils extracted using methanol-chloroform solvent mixture. The extracted oils were then converted to biodiesel via transesterification with methanol in presence of Novozym𪥣 or Eversa®Transform. The highest oils extraction yield of 11.7%, per dry weight sample, was obtained using Soxhlet extraction apparatus compared to 8.9% using methanol-chloroform mixture. The highest biodiesel production yield was 30% of the oil used, achieved after 6 hours using Novozym𪥣 at 40°C, 5:1 methanol to oil molar ratio and 10wt% enzyme loading. By using a chemical alkaline catalyst, NaOH, at the same conditions, the yield was 27%.

Seeds from soybean collected from different commercial markets were surveyed for seed-borne *** fungal colonies were isolated all over three monthly isolations constituting twenty-two fungal *** isolated fungi were belonging to the genera:alternaria,Aspergillus,Cephalosporium,Chaetomium,Cladosporium,Colletotrichum,Curvularia,Fusarium,Macrophomina,Mucor,Penicillium,Rhizoctonia,Rhizopus,Sclerotium,Stemphylium,and *** of the antifungal activity of four ethanolic extracts of clove,cinnamon,garlic,and mint was carried out against the most common fungal species(Aspergillus flavus,***,Fusarium solani,***,and ***),which significantly reduced the growth of tested *** extract recorded the highest antimicrobial potentiality against the seed-borne fungal species,followed by cinnamon,garlic,and *** and cinnamon achieved minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values less than that of the reference antifungal drug ***,garlic and mint recorded MIC values equal to or higher than that of control.A combination of clove and cinnamon,clove and garlic,cinnamon and garlic,cinnamon,and mint extracts increased the mean relative activity *** decreased MIC values below their values when used individually;this indicated synergistic interaction between the two extracts.A combination of clove with mint and garlic with mint recorded a decrease in the percentage of mean relative activity and an increase in MIC values than their values when used individually,indicating antagonistic interaction between them.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused higher educational institutions around the world to close campus-based activities and move to online *** aim of this paper is to present the case of Global College of Engineering and Technology(GCET)and how its practices including teaching,students/staff support,assessments,and exam policies were *** paper investigates the mediating role of no detriment policy impact on students’result along with the challenges faced by the higher educational institution,recommendations and *** investigation concludes that the strategies adopted for online delivery,student support,assessments and exam policies have helped students to effectively cope with the teaching and learning challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic without affecting their academic *** study shows that 99%of students were able to maintain the same or better level of performance during the 1st COVID-19 *** percent of students had shown a slight decrease in their performance(about 1%–2%)with respect to their overall marks *** no detriment policy has succoured those 1%of the students to maintain their overall performance to what it used to be pre-COVID-19 ***,the paper provides the list of challenges and suggestions for smooth conduction of online education.

Smart city promotes the unification of conventional urban infrastructure and information technology (IT) to improve the quality of living andsustainable urban services in the city. To accomplish this, smart cities necessitate collaboration among the public as well as private sectors to install ITplatforms to collect and examine massive quantities of data. At the same time,it is essential to design effective artificial intelligence (AI) based tools to handlehealthcare crisis situations in smart cities. To offer proficient services to peopleduring healthcare crisis time, the authorities need to look closer towardsthem. Sentiment analysis (SA) in social networking can provide valuableinformation regarding public opinion towards government actions. With thismotivation, this paper presents a new AI based SA tool for healthcare crisismanagement (AISA-HCM) in smart cities. The AISA-HCM technique aimsto determine the emotions of the people during the healthcare crisis time, suchas COVID-19. The proposed AISA-HCM technique involves distinct operations such as pre-processing, feature extraction, and classification. Besides,brain storm optimization (BSO) with deep belief network (DBN), called BSODBN model is employed for feature extraction. Moreover, beetle antennasearch with extreme learning machine (BAS-ELM) method was utilized forclassifying the sentiments as to various classes. The use of BSO and BASalgorithms helps to effectively modify the parameters involved in the DBNand ELM models respectively. The performance validation of the AISA-HCMtechnique takes place using Twitter data and the outcomes are examinedwith respect to various measures. The experimental outcomes highlighted theenhanced performance of the AISA-HCM technique over the recent state ofart SA approaches with the maximum precision of 0.89, recall of 0.88, Fmeasure of 0.89, and accuracy of 0.94.

Microplastics and nanoplastics are emerging pollutants of concern in the aquatic environment that are causing increasing global environmental and human health *** there has been extensive research on microplastics and nanoplastics,little has been said about the differences in their behavior in the aquatic environment,and many studies have considered them as the same class of hazardous materials;but in fact,microplastics and nanoplastics should be considered as two different types of environmentally hazardous *** this review,we propose that microplastics and nanoplastics behave in the aquatic environment in a size-dependent manner and should be *** we systematically analyzed the differences in the behavior of microplastics and nanoplastics in the aquatic environment in terms of five aspects:1)distribution behavior;2)adsorption behavior;3)reaction with natural colloids;4)aging and leaching behavior;5)interaction with *** paper has been written to draw academic attention to the different behaviors of microplastics and nanoplastics in the aquatic environment in order to distinguish between their effects on humans and the environment.

Screening Tree Species for Carbon Storage Potential through Urban Tree Inventory in Planted Vegetation

Urban tree inventory is a great tool for gathering data that can be used by different end users. This study attempted to chart the species diversity in planted areas and measure their tree diameter at breast height to screen them for the carbon storage potential. A total of 2860 trees belonging to 36 species were recorded in the planted vegetation in parks and avenue plantation. The dominant species were Azadirachta indicia (25.5%), Conocarpus erectus (19.2%), Ficus spp. (15.5%), Tabebuia rosea (9.2%), Peitophorum pterocarpum (9.0%) and the remaining represents (21.6%) of the tree identified in this study. It was found that the highest contribution of carbon sequestration (CO2 equivalent) is dominated by the Ficus spp. (30.3%) with a total of 3399.3 tCO2eq, followed by Azadirachta indicia (25.4%) with a total of 2845.2 tCO2eq and Conocarpus erectus (20.4%) with a total of 2286 tCO2eq. The entire area has the capability to sequester around 11,213.3 tCO2eq and on average of 3.9 ± 0.1 tCO2eq. In accordance with the findings, it is imperative for the preservation of a sustainable environment to have vegetation that has the capacity to store carbon. The study suggests, there is potential to increase carbon sequestration in urban cities through plantation programs on existing and new land uses and along roads.

Mangroves in coastal cities are under threat due to development pressures. However, mangrove ecosystems can serve as a potential carbon sink for mitigating the impacts of climate change. The main objective of this study was to estimate the carbon sequestration potential of mangroves in the al-Qurm natural reserve, Muscat, Oman. The reserve was classified into three distinct zones and was estimated through field measurement and remote sensing techniques. The study found that each zone sequesters varying levels of carbon. The highest mean carbon stock was measured in the landward zone (20.2 ± 0.3 kg∙C/m2), followed by the middle zone (8.7 ± 0.4 kg∙C/m2) and seaward zone (5.8 ± 0.8 kg∙C/m2), respectively. The carbon sequestration rate of the sediment range was between 5.0 g C/m2∙year - 12.5 g C/m2∙year. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from above-ground biomass showed a positive relationship (r = 0.73) with biomass measured in the field.
