The world’s top ranked mega city Delhi is known for deteriorated air ***,the analysis of air pollution data of 5 years(2014–2018)reveals that years 2016 and 2017,which were marked by an unusual delayed withdrawal of monsoon,witnessed an unprecedented extreme levels of toxic PM2.5 particles(≤2.5μm in diameter)touching a peak level of~760μg/m3(24 hr average),immediately after the monsoon retreat,surpassing WHO standards by~30 time and Indian national standards by~12 times,jeopardising lives of its ***,the normal monsoon withdrawal years do not show such extreme levels of *** high resolution WRF-Chem model along with meteorological data are used in this work to understand that how the delayed monsoon withdrawal and associated vagarious anticyclonic circulation resulted in trapping externally generated pollutants ceaselessly under colder conditions,leading to historic air quality crisis in landlocked mega city in these selected *** sensitivity analysis confirmed that when WRF-chem model forced the climatology of normal monsoon year(2015)to simulate the pollution scenario of 2016 and 2017 for the above time period,the crisis *** findings suggest that such unusual monsoon patterns are on the hook to spur extreme pollution events in recent time.

The seismotectonic characteristics of ten repeated earthquake swarm sequence within a seismic cluster along Jiali Fault in eastern Himalayan syntaxis(EHs) have been *** swarms are spatially disposed in and around Yigong Lake(a natural lake formed by blocking of Yigong River by landslide) and are characterized by low magnitude,crustal events with low to moderate b ***:mb discriminant functions though indicate anomalous nature of the earthquakes within swarm but are considered as natural events that occurred under condition of high apparent stress and stress *** fault plane solutions of selected swarms indicate strike-slip sense of shear on fault planes;solution parameters show low plunging compression and tensional axes along NW-sE and NE-sW respectively with causative fault plane oriented *** steeply towards south or *** fault plane is in excellent agreement with the disposition and tectonic movement registered by right lateral Jiali *** process of pore pressure perturbation and resultant ’r—t plot’ with modelled diffusivity(D = 0.12 m^2/s) relates the diffusion of pore pressure to seismic sequence in a fractured poro-elastic fluid saturated medium at average crustal depth of 15-20 *** low diffusivity depicts a highly fractured interconnected medium that is generated due to high stress activity near the eastern syntaxial bent of *** is proposed that hydro fracturing with respect to periodic pore pressure variations is responsible for generation of swarms in the *** fluid pressure generated due to shearing and infiltrations of surface water within dilated seismogenic fault(Jiali Fault) are causative factors.

To prepare a landslide susceptibility map of shivkhola watershed,one of the landslide prone parts of Darjeeling Himalaya,remote sensing and GIs tools were used to integrate 10 landslide triggering parameters:lithology,slope angle,slope aspect,slope curvature,drainage density,upslope contributing area(UCA),lineament,settlement density,road contributing area(RCA),and land use and land cover(LULC).The Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) was applied to derive factor weights using MATLAB with reasonable consistency ratio(CR).The frequency ratio(FR) model was used to derive class frequency ratio or class weights that indicate the relative importance of individual classes for each *** weighted linear combination(WLC) method was used to determine the landslide susceptibility index value(LsIV) on a GIs platform,by incorporating both factor weights and class *** shiv-khola watershed is classified into five landslide susceptibility *** overall classification accuracy is 99.22 and Kappa statistics is 0.894.

Landslide is considered as one of the most severe threats to human life and property in the hilly areas of the *** number of landslides and the level of damage across the globe has been increasing over ***,landslide management is essential to maintain the natural and socio-economic dynamics of the hilly *** river basin is one of the most landslide-prone areas of the sikkim selected for the present *** prime goal of the study is to prepare landslide susceptibility maps(LsMs)using computer-based advanced machine learning techniques and compare the performance of the *** properly understand the existing spatial relation with the landslide,twenty factors,including triggering and causative factors,were selected.A deep learning algorithm *** neural network model(CNN)and three popular machine learning techniques,i.e.,random forest model(RF),artificial neural network model(ANN),and bagging model,were employed to prepare the *** separate datasets including training and validation were designed by randomly taken landslide and nonlandslide points.A ratio of 70:30 was considered for the selection of both training and validation *** was assessed by tolerance and variance inflation factor,and the role of individual conditioning factors was estimated using information gain *** result reveals that there is no severe multicollinearity among the landslide conditioning factors,and the triggering factor rainfall appeared as the leading cause of the *** on the final prediction values of each model,LsM was constructed and successfully portioned into five distinct classes,like very low,low,moderate,high,and very high *** susceptibility class-wise distribution of landslides shows that more than 90%of the landslide area falls under higher landslide susceptibility *** precision of models was examined using the area under the curve(AUC)of the receiver operating characteristi

steady state suspended-load of sediment transported in flow over erodible beds usually is treated by the advection-diffusion approach, though in recent years, it is being treated as a two-phase flow phenomenon incorporating kinetics of sediment particles. Among the advection-diffusion approaches, Rouse’s equation is the well-known, although a number of researchers in later periods have attempted to improve it by modifying the mixing length concept taking into account other aspects. In this paper, the advection-diffusion approach and associated logarithmic law of flow velocity are revisited. It is concluded from the logarithmic law that the Reynolds shear stress is a linear function of height above the bed, which reduces to bed shear stress in the case of a long horizontal channel. As a consequence, it is shown that the volumetric concentration of sediment is best approximated by the sum of two power laws of height above the bed. An equation is derived for the suspended-load transport rate in terms of elementary functions.

Osteonecrosis(ON) is caused by inadequate blood supply leading to bone death, which results in the collapse of the architectural bony structure. Femoral head is the most common site involved in ON. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is a commonly used imaging modality to detect early ON. When MRI is inconclusive, bone scan is helpful in detecting ON during early phase of the disease. As newer nuclear medicine equipment, like single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography(CT) and positron emission tomography/CT, are emerging in medical science, we review the role of these imaging modalities in ON of femoral head.
