Atmospheric instability information derived from satellites plays an important role in short-term weather forecasting, especially the forecasting of severe convective storms. For the next generation of weather satellites for Korea＇s multi-purpose geostationary satellite program, a new imaging instrument has been developed. Although this imaging instrument is not de- signed to perform full sounding missions and its capability is limited, its multi-spectral infrared channels provide information on vertical sounding. To take full advantage of the observation data from the much improved spatiotemporal resolution of the imager, the feasibility of an artificial neural network approach for the derivation of the atmospheric instability is investigated. The multi-layer perceptron model with a feed-forward and back-propagation training algorithm shows quite a sensitive re- sponse to the selection of the training dataset and model architecture. Through an extensive performance test with a carefully selected training dataset of 7197 independent profiles, the model architectures are selected to be 12, 5000, and 0.3 for the number of hidden nodes, number of epochs, and learning rate, respectively. The selected model gives a mean absolute error, RMSE, and correlation coefficient of 330 J kg-1, 420 J kg-1, and 0.9, respectively. The feasibility is further demonstrated via application of the model to real observation data from a similar instrument that has comparable observation channels with the planned imager.

Host-associated probiotics(HAPs)are bacteria originally isolated from rearing water or the host's gastrointestinal tract in order to enhance the host's growth and *** study investigated the HAP potential of Bacillus ***8313,isolated from wild red sea bream(Pagrus major),through characterization and feeding *** based on in vitro tests showed that PM8313 is safe,confirming its hemolytic,cytotoxic,and antibiotic *** addition,PM8313 showed advantages as a probiotic with high viability in the gastrointestinal model and a high cell adhesion ***-genome sequencing demonstrated that PM8313 has a 4,615,871 bp single circular chromosome and a guaninecytosine content of 45.25%.It also showed the absence of genes encoding virulence factors,such as cytotoxin,enterotoxin,hemolysin,sphingomyelinase,and *** the feeding trial,a supplemental diet of 1×10^(8)CFU/g PM8313 positively altered the weight gain,digestive enzyme activity,and intestinal microbiota composition of red sea *** of nonspecific immune parameters and immune-related gene expression,and a challenge test showed that PM8313 supplementation increases immunity and pathogenic bacteria *** findings suggest that PM8313 should be considered for application as a novel HAP to red sea bream aquaculture.

Elucidating the complex dynamic cellular organization in the hypothalamus is critical for understanding its role in coordinating fundamental body functions. Over the past decade, single-cell and spatial omics technologies have significantly evolved, overcoming initial technical challenges in capturing and analyzing individual cells. These high-throughput omics technologies now offer a remarkable opportunity to comprehend the complex spatiotemporal patterns of transcriptional diversity and cell-type characteristics across the entire hypothalamus. Current single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing methods comprehensively quantify gene expression by exploring distinct phenotypes across various subregions of the hypothalamus. However, single-cell/single-nucleus RNA sequencing requires isolating the cell/nuclei from the tissue, potentially resulting in the loss of spatial information concerning neuronal networks. Spatial transcriptomics methods, by bypassing the cell dissociation, can elucidate the intricate spatial organization of neural networks through their imaging and sequencing technologies. In this review, we highlight the applicative value of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in exploring the complex molecular-genetic diversity of hypothalamic cell types, driven by recent high-throughput achievements.

BACKGROUND： An increasing number of studies have shown the effects of aging in basic cognitive processing and higher cognitive functions using functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. However, little is known about the aging effects in diverse cognitive abilities, such as spatial learning and reasoning. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effect of aging on spatial cognitive performance and regional brain activation based on fMRI. DESIGN, TIME, AND SETTING： A block design for fMRI observation. This study was performed at the fMRI Laboratory, Brain Science Research Center, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from March 2006 to May 2009. PARTICIPANTS： Eight right-handed, male, college students in their 20s （mean age 21.5 years） and six right-handed, male, adults in their 40s （mean age 45.7 years）, who graduated from college, participated in the study. All subjects were healthy and had no prior history of psychiatric or neurological disorders. METHODS： A spatial task was presented while brain images were acquired using a 3T fMRI system （ISOL Technology, Korea）. The spatial tasks involved selecting a shape that corresponded to a given figure using four examples, as well as selecting a development figure of a diagram. MAIN OUTCOME MEAsuRES： The accuracy rate （number of correct answers/total number of items x 100%） of spatial tasks was calculated. Using the subtraction procedure, the activated areas in the brain during spatial tasks were color-coded by T-score. The double subtraction method was used to analyze the effect of aging between the two age groups （20s versus 40s）. REsuLTS： The cerebellum, occipital lobe, parietal lobe, and frontal lobe were similarly activated in the two age groups. Increased brain activations, however, were observed in bilateral parietal and superior frontal lobes of the younger group. BACKGROUND： Previous studies have analyzed cerebral activation and lateralization of cognitive functions, as well as cerebellar function with reference to high-level cognitive processing. However, there has been very little research on systematization and diversification. In particular, there are no reports on cerebellar lateralization, although reliable results have been reported on cerebral lateralization. OBJECTIVE： This study analyzed cerebellar activation and lateralization in relation to verbal and visuospatial tasks using functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A block design for fMRI observation was performed at the fMRI Laboratory, Brain Science Research Center, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from May 2006 to September 2008. PARTICIPANTS： Sixteen healthy, male, college students, aged （23.3 ± 0.5） years, and 16 healthy, male, college students, aged （21.5 ± 2.3） years, participated in the study, respectively. METHODS： Verbal and visuospatial tasks were presented while functional brain images were acquired using a 3T fMRI system. Verbal analogy testing required the subject to select the word with the same relationship as one of the given words. Verbal antonym testing required the subject to select the word with a different meaning among four words. Visuospatial tasks involved selecting a shape that corresponded to a given figure with four examples, as well as selecting a development figure of a diagram. MAIN OUTCOME MEAsuRES： Changes in cerebellar activation and lateralization between two cognition tasks. REsuLTS： Bilateral hemisphere Iobules VI and IX, right hemisphere Iobule VIII, bilateral hemisphere Iobules Crus I, and vermis Iobule IV, V, and Vl were closely related to verbal tasks in comparison to visuospatial tasks. Previous studies have reported decreased cerebral volume as a result of smoking. However, little is known about accompanying changes in ventricular volume for healthy subjects who smoke, although ventricular volume is increased in patients with multiple sclerosis who smoke. The present study analyzed whether cerebral volume decreased with smoking through the use of magnetic resonance imaging. In addition, accompanying changes in ventricular volume that resulted from decreased cerebral volume and smoking were analyzed in healthy subjects. When multivariate analysis of covariance was performed by integrating the 2 age groups, aged 20-28 years and 40-49 years, with statistical significance, results showed that cerebral volume of smokers was smaller and ventricular volume was greater compared with the non-smokers. These findings suggest that ventricular volume changes could be utilized to characterize the effects of smoking.

Advanced OER/HER electrocatalytic alternatives are crucial for the wide adaptation of green hydrogen ***,Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar （SCP）,denoted as Ru/NiMnB,is synthesized using a combination of electro-deposition and hydrothermal *** investigation of Ru doping in the NiMnB matrix revealed significant improvements in electrocatalytic *** Ru/NiMnB SCPs demonstrate superior OER/HER activity with low overpotentials of 150 and 103 mV at 50mA/cm2in 1 M KOH,making them highly competitive with state-of-the-art ***,the Ru/NiMnB SCPs exhibit a low 2-E cell voltage of 2.80 V at ultra-high current density of 2,000 m A/cm2in 1 M KOH,outperforming the standard benchmark electrodes of RuO2||Pt/C,thereby positioning Ru/NiMnB as one of the best bifunctional *** SCPs exhibit exceptional high-current characteristics,stability and corrosion resistance,as evidenced by continuous operation at 1,000 mA/cm2high-current density for over 150 h in 6 M KOH at elevated temperatures under harsh industrial *** a small amount of Ru incorporation significantly enhances the electrocatalytic performances of NiMnB,attributed to increased active sites and improved intrinsic properties such as conductivity,adsorption/desorption capability and reaction ***,Ru/NiMnB SCPs present a promising bi-functional electrode concept for efficient green H2production.

Background:The aim of this study is to identify obese children who are candidates for a potential diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).Methods:We enrolled 242 obese children (122 boys and 120 girls) aged 7-16 years who were examined with abdominal ultrasonography in our pediatric obesity *** compared patients in the normal group with those in the NAFLD group (mild disease,moderate to severe disease) and identified the optimal anthropometric parameters among height,weight,body mass index (BMI),waist circumference,hip circumference,waist to height ratio (WHtR),and waist to hip ratio to predict NAFLD using a receiver operating characteristic curve *** also investigated risk factors associated with NAFLD for the anthropometric parameters and the biochemical model using logistic ***:The high-and low-risk groups for hepatic steatosis relative to a WHtR of 0.56 as the standard point showed significant differences in hepatic steatosis severity grade (P0.56 (2.25,1.05-4.81),and waist circumference >90th percentile (20.22,9.21-44.36) in the anthropometric parameter model and elevated alanine aminotransferase levels (boys >25.8 U/L,girls >22.1 U/L) (6.93,2.52-19.03),hypertriglyceridemia (>110 mg/dL) (3.80,1.23-11.75),and triglyceride to HDL cholesterol ratio >3 (9.23,2.95-8.83) in the biochemical parameter ***:A diagnostic approach to hepatic steatosis is recommended as part of the proper screening and stratification of risk factors in obese *** is a simple and convenient method of effectively identifying obese children who are candidates for hep
