AIM: To define the cost-effectiveness of strategies, including endoscopy and immunosuppression, to prevent endoscopic recurrence of Crohn’s disease following intestinal ***: In the “POCER” study patients undergoing intestinal resection were treated with post-operative drug therapy. Two thirds were randomized to active care (6 mo colonoscopy and drug intensification for endoscopic recurrence) and one third to drug therapy without early endoscopy. Colonoscopy at 18 mo and faecal calprotectin (FC) measurement were used to assess disease recurrence. Administrative data, chart review and patient questionnaires were collected prospectively over 18 ***: Sixty patients (active care n = 43, standard care n = 17) were included from one health service. Median total health care cost was $6440 per patient. Active care cost $4824 more than standard care over 18 mo. Medication accounted for 78% of total cost, of which 90% was for adalimumab. Median health care cost was higher for those with endoscopic recurrence compared to those in remission [$26347 (IQR 25045-27485) vs $2729 (IQR 1182-5215), P lect patients for colonoscopy could reduce cost by $1010 per patient over 18 mo. Active care was associated with 18% decreased endoscopic recurrence, costing $861 for each recurrence ***: Post-operative management strategies are associated with high cost, primarily medication related. Calprotectin use reduces costs. The long term cost-benefit of these strategies remains to be evaluated.

Optoelectronic tweezer(OET) is a useful optical micromanipulation technology that has been demonstrated for various applications in electrical engineering and most notably cell selection for biomedical engineering. In this work, we studied the use of light patterns with different shapes and thicknesses to manipulate dielectric microparticles with OET. It was demonstrated that the maximum velocities of the microparticles increase to a peak and then gradually decrease as the light pattern’s thickness increases. Numerical simulations were run to clarify the underlying physical mechanisms, and it was found that the observed phenomenon is due to the co-influence of horizontal and vertical dielectrophoresis forces related to the light pattern’s thickness. Further experiments were run on light patterns with different shapes and objects with different sizes and structures. The experimental results indicate that the physical mechanism elucidated in this research is an important one that applies to different light pattern shapes and different objects, which is useful for enabling users to optimize OET settings for future micromanipulation applications.

Aged populations have remarkable variability in recent memory and cognitive mapping. Although some individuals may have substantial age-related impairments, others perform almost as well as young individuals. This paper reviews the relevant data on aged rats and indicates two challenges for biomarkers of aging. The first is to provide an appropriate quantitative description of these individual differences. The second is to use them effectively as markers for age-related changes in psychological functions and their neural substrates.

Seeding rate is an important management practice for soybean *** and *** growers use different seeding rates,and breeders in the two countries have developed cultivars adapted to respective plant *** objective of this study was to compare the effect of plant density on cultivars recently released in different breeding programs,using four cultivars developed in liaoning,China and four in Ohio,*** used 3 plant density treatments(7.5,15.0,22.5 x 104 plants/hm2) and assessed yield and agronomic traits from 2004 to 2006 in *** was no significant effect of plant density on yield for either group of the *** average yield of Ohio cultivars was higher than that of liaoning cultivars,and there was no significant interaction between plant density and cultivar for all the assessed *** plant height of liaoning cultivars was significantly higher than that of Ohio cultivars,and there was a significant effect of plant density on plant *** average branch number of Ohio cultivars was larger than that of liaoning cultivars;higher plant density reduced the branch number per plant *** density had a signifi-cant effect on the node number and internode length,liaoning cultivars generally had longer internode *** density had a significant effect on seed yield:stem ratio,as the plant density increased the seed yield:stem ratio decreased for both groups of ***,100-seed weight was not affected by plant density.

Hydrogen has attracted attention as an alternative fuel source and as an energy storage ***,the flammability of hydrogen at low concentrations makes it a safety ***,gas concentration measurements are a vital safety *** we present the experimental realization of a palladium thin film cantilever optomechanical hydrogen gas *** measured the instantaneous shape of the cantilever to nanometer-level accuracy using diffraction phase ***,we were able to quantify changes in the curvature of the cantilever as a function of hydrogen concentration and observed that the sensor’s minimum detection limit was well below the 250 *** of our test *** the change in curvature versus the hydrogen curve for calibration,we accurately determined the hydrogen concentrations for a random sequence of *** addition,we calculated the change in film stress as a function of hydrogen concentration and observed a greater sensitivity at lower concentrations.
