A Modified Crank-Nicolson Numerical Scheme for the Flory-Huggins Cahn-Hilliard Model

In this paper we propose and analyze a second order accurate numericalscheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with logarithmic Flory Huggins energy potential. A modified Crank-Nicolson approximation is applied to the logarithmic nonlinear term, while the expansive term is updated by an explicit second order AdamsBashforth extrapolation, and an alternate temporal stencil is used for the surface diffusion term. A nonlinear artificial regularization term is added in the numerical scheme,which ensures the positivity-preserving property, i.e., the numerical value of the phasevariable is always between -1 and 1 at a point-wise level. Furthermore, an unconditional energy stability of the numerical scheme is derived, leveraging the special formof the logarithmic approximation term. In addition, an optimal rate convergence estimate is provided for the proposed numerical scheme, with the help of linearizedstability analysis. A few numerical results, including both the constant-mobility andsolution-dependent mobility flows, are presented to validate the robustness of the proposed numerical scheme.

Clinical Assessment of a Pharmaceutical Polyphenol Fruit extract Gel to Inhibit Dental Plaque

Oral bacteria (e.g. Porphyromonas gingivalis) are associated and potentially co-causative in several medical conditions including Alzheimer’s disease and increased cardiovascular risk. Naturally occurring polyphenols are a developing class of antimicrobial pharmaceutical agents. The use of plant-based polyphenol compounds is an attractive area of medical and dental research due to their high safety factor from their presence in vegetables and fruits. This preliminary study evaluated polyphenols found in berries to reduce bacterial dental plaque accumulation. The study was an in vivo single blind randomized controlled trial of seven subjects with a novel tooth gel using validated measurements. Results showed a significant reduction in plaque accumulation (p = 0.005) and a non-significant trend to reduce gingivitis (p = e="font-family:Verdana;">0.08). The bioactive gel showed no local or systemic adverse effects and was well tolerated by subjects.

We report our recent work on mean-field potential effects on the elliptic flows of matters and antimatters in heavy ion collisions leading to the production of a baryon-rich *** the framework of a multiphase transport(AMPT) model that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions,we have found that including mean-field potentials in the hadronic phase leads to a splitting of the elliptic flows of particles and their antiparticles,providing thus a plausible explanation of the different elliptic flows between p and anti-p,K+and K-,and π+ and π- observed by the STAR Collaboration in the Beam energy Scan(BeS) program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider(RHIC).Using a partonic transport model based on the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio(NJL) model,we have also studied the effect of scalar and vector mean fields on the elliptic flows of quarks and antiquarks in these *** quarks and antiquarks at hadronization to hadrons via the quark coalescence model,we have found that the elliptic flow differences between particles and antiparticles also depend on the strength of the quark vector coupling in baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma,providing thus the possibility of extracting information on the latter's properties from the BeS program at RHIC.

Predicting muscular strength using demographics,skeletal dimensions,and body composition measures

Impact of fertility versus mortality control on the demographics of Mastomys natalensis in maize fields

The multimammate mouse,Mastomys natalensis,is the most common rodent pest species in sub-Saharan ***,rodenticides are the preferred method used to reduce the population of rodent pests,but this method poses direct and indirect risks to humans and other non-target *** control is a promising alternative that has been argued to be a more sustainable and humane method for controlling rodent *** this study,we compared the effectiveness of fertility control bait eP-1(quinestrol(e)and levonorgestrel(P),10 ppm)and an anticoagulant rodenticide bait(bromadiolone,50 ppm)on the population dynamics of *** in maizeﬁelds in Zambia during 2 cropping *** was the most abundant species in maizeﬁelds(77%of total captures).Fertility control reduced the number of juveniles and suppressed population growth of *** at the end of the 2019–2020 cropping *** population density initially decreased after rodenticide treatment,but the population rapidly recovered through *** of the treatments inﬂuenced maize damage by rodents at germination(F2,67=1.626,P=0.204).Applying the treatments during the maize seeding time was effective at suppressing population growth at the end of the cropping season than application the month before maize *** research indicates that a single-dose delivery of eP-1 and rodenticide have comparable effects on the population dynamics of ***ﬁndings are important in developing fertility control protocols for rodent pest populations to reduce maize crop damage and improve yields.
