Radiofrequency electric-field heating behaviors of highly enriched semiconducting and metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes

It is theorized that enhanced thermal heating may result from exposing single-walled carbon nanotubes （SWNts） embedded in a conductive host to radiofrequency （RF） electric fields. We examine the RF-induced （13.56 MHz） heating behaviors of 95% metallic- and semiconducting-enriched SWNts （m-/s-SWNts） suspended in aqueous solutions with varying NaC1 molarity （0.001 mM-1 M）. the heating effects were only evident for host molarities below 1 mM （equivalent to 0.1 S/m） at which the s-SWNt heating rates dominated those of the m-SWNts. the heating effects were localized to aligned and aggregated ＂SWNt ropes＂ -1 cm in length that formed in suspension, parallel to the electric-field vector, during the RF exposure. For molarities above 1 mM, no enhancements were evident, owing to the large heating effects of the bulk ionic NaC1 suspensions, which were observed in previous studies. Although larger enhancement effects proportional to the host conductivity have been theoretically predicted for m-/s-SWNt suspensions, this was not observed most likely because of the aggregation and screening effects, which diminished the scattered electric field near the m-/s-SWNts. Our research may further the development of better nanoparticle heating agents for applications such as non-invasive RF-induced cancer hyperthermia.

Machine learned force fields typically require manual construction of training sets consisting of thousands of first principles calculations,which can result in low training efficiency and unpredictable errors when applied to structures not represented in the training set of the *** severely limits the practical application of these models in systems with dynamics governed by important rare events,such as chemical reactions and *** present an adaptive Bayesian inference method for automating the training of interpretable,low-dimensional,and multi-element interatomic force fields using structures drawn on the fly from molecular dynamics *** an active learning framework,the internal uncertainty of a Gaussian process regression model is used to decide whether to accept the model prediction or to perform a first principles calculation to augment the training set of the *** method is applied to a range of single-and multi-element systems and shown to achieve a favorable balance of accuracy and computational efficiency,while requiring a minimal amount of ab initio training *** provide a fully opensource implementation of our method,as well as a procedure to map trained models to computationally efficient tabulated force fields.

the~790 ka Australasian(micro)tektite strewn field is one of the most recent and best-known examples of impact ejecta emplacement as the result of a large-scale cratering event across a considerable part of Earth's surface(>10%in area).the Australasian strewn field is characterized by a tri-lobe pattern consisting of a large central distribution lobe,and two smaller side lobes extending to the west and ***,we report on the discovery of microtektite-like particles in sedimentary traps,containing abundant micrometeorite material,in the Sør Rondane Mountain(SRM)range of East *** thirty-three glassy particles display a characteristic pale yellowcolor and are predominantly spherical in shape,except for a single dumbbell-shaped *** vitreous spherules range in size from220 to 570μm,with an average diameter of~370μ*** compares relatively well with the size distribution(75–778μm)of Australasian microtektites previously recovered from the transantarcticMountains(tAM)and located ca.2500–3000 km fromthe *** addition,the chemical composition of the SRM particles exhibits limited variation and is nearly identical to the‘normal-type’(i.e.,tAM *** Sr and Nd isotope systematics for a single batch of SRM particles(n=26)strongly support their affiliation with tAMmicrotektites and the Australasian tektite strewn field in ***,Sr isotope ratios and Nd model ages suggest that the target material of the SRM particles was composed of a plagioclase-or carbonate-rich lithology derived from a Paleo-or Mesoproterozoic crustal *** affiliation to the Australasian strewn field requires long-range transportation,with estimated great circle distances of ca.11,600 km from the hypothetical source crater,provided transportation occurred along the central distribution *** is in agreement with the observations made for the Australasian microtektites recovered from Victoria Land(ca.11,000 km)and Larkman Nunatak(ca.12,000 km),w

Automatic segmentation of key microstructural features in atomic-scale electron microscope images is critical to improved understanding of structure–property relationships in many important materials and chemical ***,the present paradigm involves time-intensive manual analysis that is inherently biased,error-prone,and unable to accommodate the large volumes of data produced by modern *** more automated approaches have been proposed,many are not robust to a high variety of data,and do not generalize well to diverse microstructural features and material ***,we present a flexible,semi-supervised few-shot machine learning approach for segmentation of scanning transmission electron microscopy images of three oxide material systems:(1)epitaxial heterostructures of SrtiO_(3)/Ge,(2)La_(0.8)Sr_(0.2)FeO_(3) thin films,and(3)MoO_(3) *** demonstrate that the few-shot learning method is more robust against noise,more reconfigurable,and requires less data than conventional image analysis *** approach can enable rapid image classification and microstructural feature mapping needed for emerging high-throughput characterization and autonomous microscope platforms.

Systemic corticosteroids represent the standard treatment for autoimmune pancreatitis with IgG4-associated *** steroid-dependent disease,azathioprine has been used for maintenance of *** mofetil has been used for transplant immunosuppression and more recently for autoimmune hepatitis;however,there are no case reports to date on the use of mycophenolate mofetil in adult patients with autoimmune pancreatitis.A patient with IgG4-mediated autoimmune pancreatitis and IgG4-associated cholangitis refractory to steroids and intolerant of azathioprine was treated with mycophenolate mofetil,which inhibits de novo guanosine synthesis and blockade of both B and t lymphocyte *** of mycophenolate mofetil and uptitration to 1000 mg by mouth twice daily over a treatment period of 4 mo was associated with improvement in the patient's energy level and blood glucose control and was not associated with any adverse *** patient was managed without a biliary ***,there was a return of symptoms,jaundice,increase in transaminases,and hyperbilirubinemia when the prednisone dose reached 11 mg per *** the first report of mycophenolate mofetil use in an adult patient with IgG4-associated autoimmune pancreatitis and IgG4-associated cholangitis,the introduction of mycophenolate mofetil was safe and well-tolerated without adverse events,but it did not enable discontinuation of the *** mofetil and other immunomodulatory therapies should continue to be studied for maintenance of remission in the large subset of patients with refractory or recurrent autoimmune pancreatitis.

AIM: to evaluate the light adjustable lens (LAL) vs a standard monofocal lens in achieving target astigmatic refraction and improving postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA).MEtHODS: this randomized controlled clinical trial included 40 patients with pre-existing astigmatism and visually significant cataract. twenty-eight patients received the LAL and 12 control patients received a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) after cataract extraction at a single institution. the patients with the LAL underwent adjustment by ultraviolet (UV) light postoperatively plus subsequent lock-in procedures and all patients returned to clinic for follow up of study parameters at 6, 9, and 12mo. Manifest refraction, distance visual acuity, and adverse events were recorded at each visit. RESULtS: the mean cylinder before adjustment in eyes with the LAL was -0.89±0.58 D (-2.00 to 0.00 D) and -0.34±0.34 D (-1.25 to 0.00 D) after lock-in (P=1.68×10^-8). the mean cylinder in patients with the monofocal lens was -1.00±0.32 D (-1.50 to -0.50 D) at 17-21d postoperatively, which was statistically different from the LAL cylinder post lock-in (P=1.43×10^-6). UDVA in the LAL group was 20/20 or better in 79% of patients post lock-in with good stability over 12mo compared with 33% of the control patients with UDVA of 20/20 or ***: these results demonstrate that the LAL is more effective in achieving target refractions and improving postoperative UDVA in patients with pre-existing corneal astigmatism than a standard monofocal lens.

In the path toward the realization of carbon nanotube(CNt)-driven electronics and sensors,the ability to precisely position CNts at well-defined locations remains a significant *** complex CNt-based bottom–up structures can be synthesized if there is a method to accurately trap and place these *** this study,we demonstrate that the rapid electrokinetic patterning(REP)technique can accomplish these *** using laser-induced alternating current(AC)electrothermal flow and particle–electrode forces,REP can collect and maneuver a wide range of vertically aligned multiwalled CNts(from a single nanotube to over 100 nanotubes)on an electrode *** addition,these trapped nanotubes can be electrophoretically deposited at any desired location onto the electrode *** from active control of the position of these deposited nanotubes,the number of CNts in a REP trap can also be dynamically tuned by changing the AC frequency or by adjusting the concentration of the dispersed *** the basis of a calculation of the stiffness of the REP trap,we found an upper limit of the manipulation speed,beyond which CNts fall out of the REP *** peak manipulation speed is found to be dependent on the electrothermal flow velocity,which can be varied by changing the strength of the AC electric field.
