This work reports on the effect of commercial expandable graphite(EG)on the flammability and thermal decomposition properties of PLA-starch *** PLA-starch/EG composites were prepared by melt-mixing and their thermal stability,volatile pyrolysis products and flammability characteristics were *** char residues of the composites,after combustion in a cone calorimeter,were analyzed with environmental scanning electron microscopy(ESEM).The thermal decomposition stability of the composites improved in the presence of ***,the char content was less than expected as per the combination of the wt%EG added into PLA-starch and the%residue of *** flammability performance of the PLA-starch/EG composites improved,especially at 15 wt%EG content,due to a thick and strong worm-like char *** peak heat release rate(PHRR)improved by 74%,the total smoke production(TSP)by 40%and the specific extinction area(SEA)by 55%.The improvements are attributed to the ability of EG to exfoliate at increased temperatures during which time three effects occurred:(i)cooling due to an endothermic exfoliation process,(ii)dilution due to release of H2O,SO2 and CO2 gases,and (iii)formation of a protective intumescent char ***,the CO and CO2 yields were found to be unfavorably high due to the presence of EG.

Non-invasive transcutaneous electrical stimulation in the treatment of overactive bladder

We reviewed the literature on transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS)used as a therapy for overactive bladder(OAB)symptoms,with a particular focus on:stimulation site,stimuli parameters,neural structures thought to be targeted,and the clinical and urodynamic outcomes *** majority of studies used sacral or tibial nerve *** literature suggests that,whilst TENS therapy may have neuromodulation effects,patient are unlikely to benefit to a significant extent from a single application of TENS and indeed clear benefits from acute studies have not been *** long-term studies there were differences in the descriptions of stimulation intensity,strategy of the therapy,and positioning of the electrodes,as well as in the various symptoms and pathology of the ***,most studies were uncontrolled and hence did not evaluate the placebo *** is known about the underlying mechanism by which these therapies work and therefore exactly which structures need to be stimulated,and with what *** is promising evidence for the efficacy of a transcutaneous stimulation approach,but adequate standardisation of stimulation criteria and outcome measures will be necessary to define the best way to administer this therapy and document its efficacy.

Investigation of Combustion of Emulated Biogas in a Gas Turbine Test Rig

Combustion of biogas in gas turbines is an interesting option for provision of renewable combined heat and power from biomass. Due to an increasing share of fluctuating renewable energies in the power grid(especially from wind and solar power), flexible power generation is of increasing importance. Additionally, with an increasing share of agricultural and municipal waste in biogas production, biogas composition is expected to be within a broader range. In this paper, the combustion of synthetic biogas(carbon dioxide and methane) in a combustion test rig with a swirl burner and a high pressure optical chamber is researched at different conditions. Results are compared to a CHEMKIN-PRO simulation using a detailed reaction mechanism. The results show that within the researched experimental matrix, stable biogas combustion for gas turbines can be achieved even with significantly changing gas composition and nominal power. Carbon dioxide concentration is varied from 0 to 60%. CO concentrations(normalized to 15% O_2) in the flue gas do not change significantly with increasing carbon dioxide in the fuel gas and, for the researched conditions, stayed below 10 ppm. NO_x concentration is below 10 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2) for pure methane, and is further decreasing with increasing carbon dioxide share in the fuel gas, which is mainly due to changing reaction paths as reaction analysis showed. Thermal load of the combustor is varied from 100% to 20% for the reference gas composition. With decreasing thermal load, normalized carbon monoxide flue gas concentration is further reduced, while NOx concentrations are remaining at a similar level around 5 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2).

Background:Cannulation of the common bile duct(CBD)is the initial and sometime challenging step in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)*** often use cannulation attempts and cannulation time to grade cannulation difficulty,but a standard system has yet to be *** objective of this study was to compare cannulation times with numbers of cannulation attempts,as measures of cannulation ***:We conducted a prospective study in a tertiary referral center,enrolling 58 patients who were undergoing ERCP for a variety of *** time and the number of cannulation attempts were recorded for each patient.A subset of 14 ERCPs had two observers assessing attempts at *** time,number of attempts and inter-observer variability in assessment of attempts were compared and ***:The degree of agreement between two the methods(cannulation times and number of cannulation attempts)was *** were considerable discrepancies between attempt tallies from two observers but the mean difference was statistically ***:The grade of cannulation difficulty for a given ERCP procedure may differ when different methods are used(total cannulation time vs number of attempts);thus,grading by different methods should not be used *** time is a more objective and more accurate assessment tool for grading cannulation difficulty than the number of attempts to cannulate the papilla.

Despite a significant increase in utilization over the past decade,the number of donation after circulatory death(DCD)organs that are procured and transplanted in the United States(US)remains well below its *** is still room for expansion,as utilizing DCD organs to the fullest extent is currently the most viable solution to the persistent mismatch between supply and demand in *** convened a multidisciplinary transplantation summit to examine various aspects of DCD,with faculty members from around the world with clinical and academic interest in DCD donation and transplantation,including abdominal and cardiothoracic surgeons,organ procurement organization directors,hepatologists,and *** conference focused on identifying barriers to DCD organ utilization and strategies to overcome these *** divide the barriers to DCD utilization into three mains categories:(Ⅰ)policy and process variation;(II)logistical and transportation challenges;and(Ⅲ)higher risk perceptions related to DCD *** each barrier,we proposed a variety of solutions,providing an overview of the status of DCD donation in the US and suggestions on how to increase the use of *** is a specific focus on ex situ machine perfusion,normothermic regional perfusion,and other opportunities to expand DCD utilization without negatively impacting recipient outcomes.
