Biochemical, anatomical, and physiological characteristics of the brain make it especially vulnerable to insult. Specifically, some of these characteristics such as myelin and a high energy requirement provide for the introduction of free radical-induced insult. Recently, the biochemistry of free radicals has received considerable attention. It also has become increasingly suggestive that many drug and chemical-induced toxicities may be evoked via free radicals and oxidative stress. Major points addressed in this work are the regulation of neural-free radical generation by antioxidants and protective enzymes, xenobiotic-induced disruption of cerebral redox status, and specific examples of neurotoxic agent-induced alterations in free radicals as measured by the fluorescent probe dichlorofluorescein. This article considers that free radical mechanisms may contribute significantly to the properties of several diverse neurotoxic agents and proposes that free radicals may be common phenomena of neurotoxicity.

The sequestrate genus chamonixia has been shown to have affinities to the Boletales,in particular the genus *** and Japanese species of chamonixia were examined using morphological and molecular(ITS and nLSU rDNA)data and found to also have affinities with Leccinum and Leccinellum,however they form a distinct clade separate from the European type species *** Rolland and North American species.A new genus,Rosbeeva ***&Orihara ***.,is proposed for the Australasian,Japanese and chinese *** species ***(petri)*** *** restricted in distribution to Singapore and Borneo,and ***(Zeller&***)*** *** New Zealand,with Australian collections considered to belong to a revised ***(***,pegler&***)*** *** a new species *** *** *** chinese species ***(***&***)***&Orihara *** is transferred to the new genus based upon morphological *** new species from Japan,Rosbeeva eucyanea Orihara and *** Orihara,are also described and illustrated.A key to all species of Rosbeeva is *** to the highly modified gastroid sporocarp forms of both chamonixia and Rosbeeva,many macroscopic characters of use in agaricoid taxonomy are difficult to ***,color change and texture of sporocarps are of some use to distinguish genera and *** characters such as spore shape,dimensions,and ornamentation,and pileipellis and hymenophoral trama structure,are essential for determining genera and species.

Aims Floral traits in animal-pollinated plants are proposed to be selected by the behavior of pollinators,which create differential ***,fitness estimation is not trivial and there is no agreed or universal measure of *** plants,fitness can be measured in various ways,including the number of fruits or seeds,probability of survival,or growth *** Because each fitness measure can be associated with different pol-linator behavior,estimating pollinator-mediated selection on floral traits can differ among various fitness *** used the annual Mediterranean plant,Linum pubescens,as a model to assess the relative role of various fitness measures in estimating pollinator-mediated selection on floral *** compared four maternal fit-ness measures and estimated their relative advantage in assessing natural selection on floral traits of *** identify whether each trait is under pollinator-mediated selection,we used media-tional *** Findings We found that each floral trait was under natural selection assessed by a different fitness *** color combination of floral tube throat and stamen color was under selection when using seed mass as a fitness measure,and floral diameter was under positive direc-tional selection when the number of seeds or number of fruits was used as a fitness *** on floral color was not mediated by pollinators’visitation rates,while flower diameter showed par-tial pollinator-mediated *** conclude that using several fitness measures gives an insight into the mechanisms underlying phenotypic selection on a floral trait,and facilitates the understand-ing of pollinator-mediated selection.

Galls induced by the gall-forming midges Asphondylia floriformis and *** on Sarcocornia quinqueflora,and *** and *** on Tecticornia arbuscula,were collected from two sites near Melbourne,*** belonging to a broad range of families were found to be associated with external surfaces of galls and articles of Sarcocornia ***,only Botryosphaeria dothidea was isolated from the fungal mycelium lining gall-midge larval chambers of all four Asphondylia species,on both host plants.

Truffle-like fungi are highly diverse yet poorly known in *** assess the species richness,biomass,and community assemblages of truffle-like fungi in different habitats we sampled sporocarps of truffle-like fungi in three eucalypt-dominated forest types(grassy woodland,wet sclerophyll forest,and dry sclerophyll forest)once in summer and once in winter,at two sites(Mount Kaputar and New England)in northern New South Wales,*** hundred and eighteen species in 35 genera were collected;over half(51.7%)of the species were *** woodland and wet forest communities had greater species richness and a lower standing crop than dry forest *** richness and standing crop was greater in winter than in ***,species from the family Russulaceae,and the genera Dermocybe,Descomyces,and Hysterangium were *** composition varied among forest types and each forest type exhibited a suite of unique and common species,although much variation was *** in community structure was associated with some habitat attributes;at Mount Kaputar,woody plant species richness,canopy cover,litter depth,soil phosphorous,and elevation helped explain the sporocarp communities of different forest types,while at New England,woody plant species richness,rainfall,topographic aspect,soil texture,and soil nitrogen helped explain *** work contributes to knowledge of trufflelike fungal diversity,the factors affecting sporocarp distribution across landscapes,and the availability of sporocarps as a food resource for mycophagous *** understanding of fungal diversity and mammal-fungal interactions also has important implications for managing forest biodiversity.

We are reporting the case of a 32-year-old female who had suffered from fecal incontinence(FI). She was born with an imperforate anus and a recto-vaginal fistula; she underwent repair at 6 mo of age. At 29 years of age, she was still fecally incontinent despite extensive pelvic floor reeducation. A magnetic resonance imaging and an anal electromyography were performed. Because her symptoms were considered to be probably due to extra-sphincteric implantation of the neo-anus, a redo was performed of the recto-neo-anal intra-sphincteric anastomosis. A neurostimulator device was subsequently implanted for persistent incontinence. Solid and liquid FI resolved, and her quality of life improved markedly. combining surgery to correct the position of the neo-anus within the anal sphincter complex and neurostimulation could thus become a new approach in cases of refractory FI for patients with imperforate anus as a newborn. Follow-up into adulthood after pediatric imperforate anus surgery should be recommended for adult patients with persistent FI.

cage-based aquaculture in rivers raises issues of natural resource management more familiar to fisheries management than does aquaculture in fish ponds on private land. Hybrid red and black Nile tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus L) are reared for 4 - 5 months in cages in the upper ping River in northern Thailand. Observed mean stocking density was 49 ± 16 fish·m-3, feed conversion ratio 1.47 ± 0.43 kg feed per kg fish and yield density 26.6 ± 8.1 kg·m-3. Input costs were dominated by feed (70%) and stock (16%). Most farms borrowed money and participated in contracts. Fish farming was usually a component of a portfolio of household activities but for some a core business. To succeed fish farmers must manage a combination of market, climate and environmental-related risks. cage-based aquaculture in rivers faces many challenges;further research on farm practices and vulnerabilities, river and water management, and the commodity-chain are needed.

Tuberculosis (TB) results from infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can involve any organ or tissue. Early diagnosis of TB is essential for timely initiation of therapy in order to decrease transmission rate and avoid severe morbidity associated with delayed treatment. Although conventional radiography remains the most common initial imaging modality in diagnosis of pulmonary TB, computer tomography (cT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are modalities of choice with regards to diagnosis of extra-pulmonary TB. The purpose of this paper is to provide a concise review of various imaging manifestations of TB in various organ systems, in order to promote radiologists’ and clinicians’ familiarity with common radiological findings of this important disease.
