We present an algorithm for the stochastic simulation of gene expression and heterogeneous population *** algorithm combines an exact method to simulate molecular-level fluctuations in single cells and a constant-number Monte Carlo method to simulate time-dependent statistical characteristics of growing cell *** benchmark performance,we compare simulation results with steadystate and time-dependent analytical solutions for several scenarios,including steadystate and time-dependent gene expression,and the effects on population heterogeneity of cell growth,division,and DnA *** comparison demonstrates that the algorithm provides an efficient and accurate approach to simulate how complex biological features influence gene *** also use the algorithm to model gene expression dynamics within"bet-hedging"cell populations during their adaption to environmental *** simulations indicate that the algorithm provides a framework suitable for simulating and analyzing realistic models of heterogeneous population dynamics combining molecular-level stochastic reaction kinetics,relevant physiological details and phenotypic variability.

This research paper assesses the reality of Climate-Smart Agriculture(CSA)practices’potential to promote the outcomes of sustainable food systems(SFS)within Ghana’s smallholding agriculture *** study demon-strates that rural farmers generally perceive CSA’s contribution to‘food and nutrition security’and‘economic performance’as more important than CSA’s contribution to‘social equity’and‘environmental stewardship’.From a narrow perspective,the study demonstrates that farmers perceive CSA’s potential to‘prevent pest and disease outbreaks’and‘increase human capital information’as the most important contribution of CSA to SFS *** contrast,CSA’s potential to promote environmental stewardship is perceived as the least important among Ghana’s rural *** enormity of displacement of smallholders’perceptions at large is motivated by de-mographic,socioeconomic and ecological ***,the CSA for SFS outcomes narratives is driven by farmers’self-apprise,social networks and other local information dissemination ***,research findings suggest farmers’awareness of CSA practices and interventions is deficient owing to unmet training and information needs for approximately 82%of the CSA practices and *** situation elucidates the dichotomy of CSA practices’narratives as tools for attaining food,nutrition security and economic performance to the detriment of critical issues such as increasing awareness and building farmers’capacity to engage with CSA practices while also managing socio-ecological trade-offs that emerge over time due to engagement with ***(re)orientation is needed across the scale to drive CSA practices and interventions that confine cli-mate adaptation and food production practices within safe planetary boundaries without undermining social,economic,food and nutrition security needs.

The polar ionosphere at Zhongshan Station on May 11, 1999, the day the solar wind almost disappeared

The solar wind almost disappeared on May 11,1999: the solar wind plasma density and dynamic pressure were less than 1cm^(-3) and 0.1 nPa respectively, while the interplanetary mag- netic field was northward. The polar ionospheric data observed by the multi-instruments at Zhong- shan Station in Antarctica on such special event day was compared with those of the control day (May 14). It was shown that geomagnetic activity was very quiet on May 11 at Zhongshan. The magnetic pulsation, which usually occurred at about magnetic noon, did not appear. The iono- sphere was steady and stratified, and the F_2 layer spread very little. The critical frequency of day- side F_2 layer, f_0F_2, was larger than that of control day, and the peak of f_0F_2 appeared 2 hours earlier. The ionospheric drift velocity was less than usual. There were intensive auroral E_s appearing at magnetic noon. All this indicates that the polar ionosphere was extremely quiet and geomagnetic field was much more dipolar on May 11. There were some signatures of auroral substorm before midnight, such as the negative deviation of the geomagnetic H component, accompanied with auroral E_s and weak Pc3 pulsation.

Herpes simplex virus-1(HSV-1)is a widespread neurotropic virus that can reach the brain and cause a rare but acute herpes simplex encephalitis(HSE)with a high mortality *** patients present with changes in neurological and behavioral status,and survivors suffer long-term neurological *** date,the pathogenesis leading to brain damage is still not well ***-1 induced encephalitis in the central nervous system(CnS)in animals are usually very diffuse and progressing rapidly,and mostly fatal,making the analysis ***,we established a mouse model of HSE via intracerebral inoculation of modified version of neuralattenuated strains of HSV-1(deletion of ICP34.5 and inserting a strong promoter into the latency-associated transcript region),in which the LMR-αΔpA strain initiated moderate productive infection,leading to strong host immune and inflammatory response characterized by persistent microglia *** viral replication activity and prolonged inflammatory response activated signaling pathways in neuronal damage,amyloidosis,Alzheimer's disease,and neurodegeneration,eventually leading to neuronal loss and behavioral changes characterized by *** study reveals detailed pathogenic processes and persistent inflammatory responses in the CnS and provides a controlled,mild and non-lethal HSE model for studying long-term neuronal injury and increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases due to HSV-1 infection.

The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America evolved during the Early Cretaceous and were preceded by dramatic tholeiitic(mafic)magmatism and minor silicic and alkaline *** features are presently recognized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Africa to the Falklands and South *** southeastern South America,continental flood basalts and related plumbing systems constitute the ParanáMagmatic Province(PMP),whose African counterpart is the Etendeka Magmatic Province(EMP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill complexes compose the Equatorial Atlantic Magmatic Province(EQUAMP).As a common feature,these provinces are chemically represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)ncluding transitional Ti tholeiites with TiO_(2)~2.7-1.7 wt.%,and low incompatible element *** type is predominantly found in the southern PMP and EMP,with minor occurrences in the EQUAMP.(2)Tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with high Ti(TiO_(2)>~2 wt.%)and incompatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PMP and EMP,and dominant in *** rocks(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproducts of assimilation and/or fractional crystallization(AFC)processes from high Ti tholeiitic magmas,are scarce(but present)in all three *** accurate analysis of multivariable databases collected from the literature for dikes and sills,including major and trace element and radiogenic isotope data,reveals close similarities in their geochemical *** a paleogeographic reconstruction of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PMP,EMP and EQUAMP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively consistent chronology based on a vast collection of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c

Aim: To report the case of a 14- y- old boy with coeliac disease and obesity. Methods and results: A 14- y- old boy presented with episodic diarrhoea associated with eating spaghetti. His body mass index (BMI) at presentation was 37.2 kg/m2 ( > 99.9th centile). Both antigliadin and anti- endomysial antibodies were positive, and coeliac disease was diagnosed by jejunal biopsy. His diarrhoea ceased and the gliadin and endomysial antibodies disappeared after starting gluten- free diet. At 17 y, his BMI increased to 42.7 kg/m2 despite dietary support. Conclusion: Obesity in a child does not exclude the diagnosis of coeliac disease, especially if presenting with suggestive symptoms.

Synthesis of a malaria candidate glycosylphosphatidylinositol （GPI） structure： A strategy for fully inositol acylated and phosphorylated GPIs

A congener of the glycosylpbosphatidylinositol (GPI) membrane anchor present on the cell surface of the malaria pathogen Plasmodium, falciparum has been synthesized. This GPI is an example of a small number of such membrane anchors that carry a fatty acyl group at 0-2 of the inositol. Although the acyl group plays crucial roles in GPI biosynthesis, it rarely persits in mature *** notable examples are the mammalian GPIs CD52 and AchE. The presence of bulky functionalities at three contiguous positions of the inositol moiety creates a very crowded environment that poses difficulties for carrying out selective chemical *** installations of the axial long-chain acyl group and neighboring pbosphoglyceryl complex were fraught with obstacles. The key solution to these obstacles in the successful synthesis of the malarial candidate and prototype structures involved stereoelectronically controlled opening of a cyclic ortho ester. The reaction proceeds in very good yields, the desired axial diastereomer being formed predominantly, even more so in the case of long-chain acyl derivatives. The myoinositol precursor was prepared from methyl alpha-D-glu-copyranoside by the biornimetic procedure of Bender and Budhu. For the glycan array, advantage was taken of the fact that (a) n-pentenyl ortho ester donors are rapidly and chemospecifically activated upon treatment with ytterbium triflate and n-iedosueeinimide and (b) coupling to an aeeeptor affords alpha-coupled product exclusively. A strategy for obtaining the GPI's alpha-glucosaminide component from the corresponding a-mannoside employed Deshong's novel azide displacement procedure. Thus all units of the glycan array were obtained from a beta-D-manno-n-pentenyl ortho ester, this being readily prepared from D-mannose in three easy, high-yielding steps.
