Seasonal Composition of Lipids, Fatty Acids Pigments in the Brown Alga sargassum pallidum: The Potential for Health

The present study describes the content of total lipids (TL), the main components of polar and neutral lipids (NL) and photosynthetic pigments (PSP) in edible seaweed sargassum pallidum (Ochrophyta) from the Sea of Japan, Russia, in different months of the year, taking into account life cycle. Special attention was paid to the fatty acids (FAs) of total lipids as well as the accumulation of important polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in glyceroglycolipids (GL) and reserve lipids in the seasonal cycles of growth. The content of TL strongly varied in the course of a year. The major lipid components were GL (20.3% - 36.4%) and NL (19.8% - 30.6%), while phospholipids (PL) were present in negligible amounts (3.2% - 6.9%). Significant seasonal variations were observed in content all classes of lipids. The PUFAs prevailed in total lipids and the content of n-6 PUFAs was higher than n-3 PUFAs on all stages of life with the exception of vegetation period. Monogalactosyldiacylglycerols (MGDG) and digalactosyldiacylglecerols (DGDG) were rich in PUFAs and n-3 PUFAs were dominated among them independently of stages of growth. Saturated fatty acids (SFA) were dominated in sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerols (SQDG). Triacylglycerols (TAG) and diacylglycerols (DAG) contained many PUFAs, especially n-6 PUFAs. Significant concentration 20:3 n-6 was in the triacylglycerols. The concentration of chlorophylls and carotenoids was increased with the growth and maturation of S. pallidum and reached maximum in period of highest day length and water temperature. The content of pigments decreased with the onset of short days and decreasing water temperatures. Nutritional value and benefit for health of human this alga were evaluated. The n-6/n-3 PUFAs ratio, nutritional quality index (atherogenic and thrombogenic indices, and ratio between hypocholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic fatty acids) were low, suggesting a high nutritional value of S. pallidum throughout the year.

On the Lagrange Stability of Motion and Final Evolutions in the Three-Body Problem

For the three-body problem, we consider the Lagrange stability. To analyze the stability, along with integrals of energy and angular momentum, we use relations by the author from [1], which band together separately squared mutual distances between bodies (mass points) and squared distances from bodies to the barycenter of the system. In this case, we prove the Lagrange stability theorem, which allows us to define more exactly the character of hyperbolic-elliptic and parabolic-elliptic final evolutions.

The Use of RIDA<sup>®</sup>COUNT for Monitoring the American Foulbrood Pathogen

American Foulbrood (AFB) is currently one of the most dangerous diseases in honeybees due to its high virulence and worldwide spread. Quick evaluation of the diagnosis of this disease is crucial. Successful eradication in the area indicates a need to test all bee colonies, but this is expensive and time consuming. A new method of detecting Paenibacillus larvae using the RIDA?COUNT test (R-Biopharm AG, Germany) was verified in the present study. The test is based on the principle of the cultivation test with MYPGPn medium, coloration of the bacteria with TTC (2,3,5-triphenyltetra-zoliumchloride) chromophore, and heat treatment of the sample. Using this new method, color-highlighted colonies of P. larvae can be established on the seventh day after inoculating the spores. An identical number of colonies grown with the classic cultivation test on Petri dishes containing MYPGPn medium or RIDA?COUNT-P. larvae (RC-PL) sheets were verified.

Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is one of the most appealing photonic modalities for cancer treatment based on anticancer activity of light-induced photosensitizer-mediated reactive oxygen species(ROS),but a limited depth of light penetration into tissues does not make possible the treatment of deep-seated neoplasms and thus complicates its widespread clinical ***,we introduce the concept of genetically encoded bioluminescence resonance energy transfer(BRET)-activated PDT,which combines an internal light source and a photosensitizer(PS)in a single-genetic construct,which can be delivered to tumors seated at virtually unlimited depth and then triggered by the injection of a substrate to initiate their *** illustrate the concept,we engineered genetic NanoLuc-miniSOG BRET pair,combining NanoLuc luciferase flashlight and phototoxic flavoprotein miniSOG,which generates ROS under luciferase-substrate *** prove the concept feasibility in mice bearing NanoLuc-miniSOG expressing tumor,followed by its elimination under the luciferase-substrate ***,we demonstrate a targeted delivery of NanoLuc-miniSOG gene,via tumor-specific lentiviral particles,into a tumor,followed by its successful elimination,with tumor-growth inhibition(TGI)coefficient exceeding 67%,which confirms a great therapeutic potential of the proposed *** conclusion,this study provides proof-of-concept for deep-tissue“photodynamic”therapy without external light source that can be considered as an alternative for traditional PDT.

This paper presents exact stability chart of an elastic beam when the beam is subjected to a longitudinal force governed by a feedback loop. The simplified mechanical model is motivated by a basic electroacoustics problem. The corresponding governing equation is the 1D wave equation with delayed boundary conditions. By means of the D’Alembert solution, the system is transformed into a delay differential equation of neutral type with two time delays. The exact stability chart is constructed analytically in the parameter plane of the gain parameter and the ratio of the two time delays. The complete chart extends the numerical results of the literature, while it also draws attention to the numerical difficulties of finite degree of freedom approximations and to the extreme sensitivity of the dynamics with respect to the time delay parameters of the system.

High-permeance crosslinked PTMSP thin-film composite membranes as supports for CO_2 selective layer formation

In the development of the composite gas separation membranes for post-combustion CO_2 capture, little attention is focused on the optimization of the membrane supports, which satisfy the conditions of this technology. The primary requirements to the membrane supports are concerned with their high CO_2 permeance. In this work, the membrane supports with desired characteristics were developed as high-permeance gas separation thin film composite(TFC) membranes with the thin defect-free layer from the crosslinked highly permeable polymer, poly[1-(trimethylsilyl)-1-propyne](PTMSP). This layer is insoluble in chloroform and can be used as a gutter layer for the further deposition of the CO_2-selective materials from the organic solvents. Crosslinking of PTMSP was performed using polyethyleneimine(PEI) and poly(ethyleneglycol) diglycidyl ether(PEGDGE) as crosslinking agents. Optimal concentrations of PEI in PTMSP and PEGDGE in methanol were selected in order to diminish the undesirable effect on the final membrane gas transport characteristics. The conditions of the kiss-coating technique for the deposition of the thin defect-free PTMSP-based layer, namely, composition of the casting solution and the speed of movement of the porous commercial microfiltration-grade support, were optimized. The procedure of post-treatment with alcohols and alcohol solutions was shown to be crucial for the improvement of gas permeance of the membranes with the crosslinked PTMSP layer having thickness ranging within 1-2.5 μm. The claimed membranes showed the following characteristics: CO_2 permeance is equal to 50—54 m^3(STP)/(m^2 h bar)(18,500—20,000 GPU), ideal CO_2/N_2 selectivity is 3.6-3.7, and their selective layers are insoluble in chloroform. Thus, the developed highpermeance TFC membranes are considered as a promising supports for further modification by enhanced CO_2 selective layer formation.
