Response of Asiatic ibex(Capra sibirica) under Climate Change Scenarios

We investigated the effects of climate change on the distribution of the Asiatic ibex(Capra sibirica)in eastern *** existing climate change studies have been conducted on the habitat of a wild goat species in *** conducted ecological niche modelling to compare potential present and future distributions of suitable environmental conditions for *** to 2070,18%(2689 km^2)of the current suitable areas would be lost,mostly located in the southeastern and northwestern regions of the study ***,new suitable habitats could expand outside the current ibex range—about 30%(4595 km^2)expansion until *** found that the elevation,terrain roughness,seasonal temperature,and precipitation of warmest quarter were the most important factors in the models and had strong correlations to ibex *** losses in the southeastern portion overlapped most of the current locations of ibex in that *** losses were observed in the much lower elevations of the study area(3500 m to 4000 m).When considering both loss and gain,the ibex could see a net expansion to new suitable *** 30%(1379 km^2)of the average habitat gains for the Asiatic ibex in 2070 showed a shift to northern lower temperature *** results are beneficial in planning for the potential effects on biodiversity conservation in the eastern mountain region of Tajikistan under climate change *** attention should be given to the ibex populations in the southeastern region,where habitats could become unsuitable for the species as a result of the climate-induced effects on the mountain ecosystem.

Surface patterning is very useful in biomaterial studies, yet it is not easy to prepare a micropattern with cell-adhesion contrast that is stable in a wet environment. Recently, a platform technique of transfer photolithography was invented to fabricate stable metal microarrays on the surface of a cell-adhesion resistant and mechanically biomimetic poly（ethylene glycol） hydrogel; the linker is the key chemical in such a transfer strategy. This article reports the design and synthesis of a hetero-bifunctional macromonomer linker with a thiol group at one end and an acryloyl group at the other end. The bifunctional linker was char- acterized by GPC and ~h NMR, and the average number of thiol groups in the bifunctional linker was detected by Ellman＇s reagent. The regent stability under wet conditions was also confirmed by the model reactants. The resultant micropatterned surfaces are meaningful for future studies of cell behaviors on mechanically biomimetic matrixes.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S) battery is considered as a promising energy storage system to realize high energy ***,unstable lithium metal anode emerges as the bottleneck toward practical applications,especially with limited anode excess required in a working full *** this contribution,a mixed diisopropyl ether-based(mixed-DIPE) electrolyte was proposed to effectively protect lithium metal anode in Li-S batteries with sulfurized polyacrylonitrile(SPAN) *** mixed-DIPE electrolyte improves the compatibility to lithium metal and suppresses the dissolution of lithium polysulfides,rendering significantly improved cycling ***,Li | Cu half-cells with the mixed-DIPE electrolyte cycled stably for 120 cycles,which is nearly five times longer than that with routine carbonate-based ***,the mixedDIPE electrolyte contributed to a doubled life span of 156 cycles at 0.5 C in Li | SPAN full cells with ultrathin 50 μm Li metal anodes compared with the routine *** contribution affords an effective electrolyte formula for Li metal anode protection and is expected to propel the practical applications of high-energy-density Li-S batteries.

Apple(Malus domestica Borkh)is an important fruit crop cultivated in a broad range of environmental *** fruit ripening is a physiological process,whose molecular regulatory network response to different environments is still not sufficiently investigated and this is particularly true of the peel *** this study,the influence of environmental conditions associated with low(20 m)and high(750 m)altitude on peel tissue ripening was assessed by physiological measurements combined with metabolomic and proteomic analyses during apple fruit development and *** apple fruit ripening was itself not affected by the different environmental conditions,several key color parameters,such as redness and color index,were notably induced by high *** with this observation,increased levels of anthocyanin and other phenolic compounds,including cyanidin-3-O-galactoside,quercetin-3-O-rhamnoside,quercetin-3-O-rutinoside,and chlorogenic acid were identified in the peel of apple grown at high ***,the high-altitude environment was characterized by elevated abundance of various carbohydrates(e.g.,arabinose,xylose,and sucrose)but decreased levels of glutamic acid and several related proteins,such as glycine hydroxymethyltransferase and glutamate–glyoxylate *** processes affected by high altitude were the TCA cycle,the synthesis of oxidative/defense enzymes,and the accumulation of photosynthetic *** the obtained data we were able to construct a metabolite-protein network depicting the impact of altitude on peel *** combined analyses presented here provide new insights into physiological processes linking apple peel ripening with the prevailing environmental conditions.

Beside many efforts to improve outcome, sepsis is still one of the most frequent causes of death in critically ill patients. It is the most common condition with high mortality in intensive care units. The complexity of the septic syndrome comprises immunological aspects- i.e.,sepsis induced immunosuppression- but is not restricted to this fact in modern concepts. So far, exact mechanisms and variables determining outcome and mortality stay unclear. Since there is no typical risk profile, early diagnosis and risk stratification remain difficult, which hinders rapid and effective treatment initiation. Due to the heterogeneous nature of sepsis, potential therapy options should be adapted to the individual. Biomarkers like C-reactive protein and procalcitonin are routinely used as complementary tools in clinical decision-making. Beyond the acute phase proteins, a wide bunch of promising substances and non-laboratory tools with potential diagnostic and prognostic value is under intensive investigation. So far, clinical decision just based on biomarker assessment is not yet feasible. however, biomarkers should be considered as a complementary approach.

AIM： To investigate whether the stimulation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells （PBMNC） with the cell debris and cell extraction of different probiotic strains is similar or species specific. METhODS： Three strains of bifidobacteria, 4 strains of lactobacilli, and E. coli nissle were sonicated and centrifuged in order to divide them into cell extract and cell debris. PBMNC were separated by density gradient and incubated for 36 h with either the cell debris or the cell extract of single strains of probiotic bacteria in doses from 10^2 to 10^8 CFU/mL. Cell supernatants were taken and interleukin （IL）-10, IL-1β, and tumor necosis factor （TNF）-α were determined by ELISA. RESULTS： Depending on the species super-family, the strains had different stimulation patterns. Except for both L. casei strains, the cell extract of bitTdobacteria and/actobacilli had less stimulating capacity than cell debris, whereas the cell extract of E. coli nissle had similar stimulating properties to that of the cell debris of the strain and significantly more stimulating capacity than that of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. The cell debris of bifidobacteria stimulated more cytokine release than the cell debris of lactobacilli. The cell debris of lactobacilli did not have a stimulating capacity when lower concentrations were used. Neither cell extraction nor cell debris had an inhibitory effect on the production of the tested cytokines by stimulated PBMNC. CONCLUSION： The incubation of probiotic strains, which have been used in clinical trials for inflammatory diseases, with immunocompetent cells leads to different species specific reactions. high IL-10 response to cell debris of bifidobacteria and E. coli nissle can be found. This corresponds to positive effects of bihdobacteria and E. coli nissle in clinical trials for inflammatory bowel disease compared to negative outcomes obtained with lactobacilli.

Co-expression of CDX2 and MUC2 in gastric carcinomas: Correlations with clinico-pathological parameters and prognosis

AIM: To evaluate the role of CDX2 homeobox protein as a predictor for cancer progression and prognosis as well as its correlation with MUC2 expression. CDX2 represents a transcription factor for various intestinal genes (including MUC2) and thus an important regulator of intestinal differentiation, which could previously be identified in gastric carcinomas and intestinal metaplasia. METhODS: Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues from 190 gastric carcinoma patients were stained with monodonal antibodies recognizing CDX2 and MUC2, respectively. Immunoreactivity was evaluated semiquantitatively and statistical analyses including x2 tests, uni- and multi-variate survival analyses were performed. RESULTS: CDX2 was mostly expressed in a nuclear or supranuclear pattern,whereas MUC2 showed an almost exclusive supranuclear *** antigens were present in >80% of areas exhibiting intestinal metaplasia. An immunoreactivity in >5% of the tumor area was observed in 57% (CDX2) or in 21% (MUC2) of the *** presence of both molecules did not correlate with WhO, Lauren and Goseki classification (with the exception of a significantly stronger MUC2 expression in mucinous tumors). CDX2 correlated with a lower pT and pN stage in the subgroups of intestinal and stage I cancers and was associated with MUC2 positivity.A prognostic impact of CDX2 or MUC2 was not observed. CONCLUSION: CDX2 and MUC2 play an important role in the differentiation of normal, inflamed, and neoplastic gastric tissues. According to our results, loss of CDX2 may represent a marker of tumor progression in early gastric cancer and carcinomas with an intestinal phenotype.
