Identification and Characterization of Risk Factors Linked to the Bacteriological Contamination of street Foods: Case of Porridge Made from Rice Sold in the City of Bangui, Central African Republic

Traditional ready-to-eat food products are topical in Central African Republic They are sold in most cases on the roadside and present a variety of productions including the porridge made from cereal derivatives (Peanut and Rice), commonly called “potato” These foods are sold under precarious hygienic conditions, which constitute a major public health risk for consumers, especially children under five and vulnerable people. It is in this context that a study was carried out in eight districts of the city of Bangui on porridge made from rice and peanuts in order to assess the levels and risks of contamination of these foods. The results obtained showed that this activity is performed most often by women between the ages of 20 and 29. Of these, 17.85% have never been to school;44.64% have a level of primary school. The results of the microbiological analysis carried out revealed a strong proliferation of germs indicators of faecal contamination, hygiene indicators in different points of sale, the average content of the contamination of aerobic mesophilic flora, fecal coliforms, total coliforms and staphylococcus aureus are respectively 4.33 × 103, 1.845 × 103 and 1.508 × 103 CFU. no presence of Salmonella and Shigella was observed. The various stages of porridge production until sale requires the application of hygiene rules in order to avoid intoxication and toxi-infection of consumers.

Goals: The aim of this study was to determine the antibiotic resistance profile of serotypes of streptococcus pneumoniae strains circulating in Bangui. Methodology: A prospective and analytical analysis was carried out at the national Laboratory of Clinical Biology and Public Health from 2017 to 2022. The strains came from our study on the contribution to the study of antibiotic sensitivity of streptococcus pneumoniae strains. The multiplex PCR test was used for its cost-effectiveness in terms of amplifiers which can be purified in order to be sequenced. It also makes it possible to detect several germs as well as their serotypes. For a PCR reaction, several elements are involved in the reaction medium or Master Mix. These are the desoxyribonucleotides (dnTPs), the magnesium ions (MgCl2) and the primers. A set of 14 primers divided into 3 classes were used. Class 1 primers served as an internal control by targeting the cpsA gene. It is a highly conserved gene found in capsular loci characterized to date. The primers of the second class were used to target specific serotypes by specific reactions (out of six possibilities). The group reaction was carried out using the primers of the third class in order to carry out an initial screening of the samples and to classify the pneumococcal isolates. Related serotypes were grouped based on the amplification of common genes. Using the technique of electrophoresis on agarose gel and an ultraviolet radiation device, the migration bands are then visualized and analyzed. The data collected had been entered into Excel 2010 and analyzed with Epi info 7. The exact Fischer chi2 test at the 5% threshold, the relative risk and its 95% confidence interval were used to compare the proportions and determine the associations. Results: 187 antibiotic-resistant strains of streptococcus pneumoniae were collected. AIM To assess the interendoscopist variability in the detection of colorectal polyps according to their location and histological *** This study was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from a regional colorectal cancer(CRC) screening program; 2979 complete colonoscopies from 18 endoscopists were included. Variability in performance between endoscopists for detection of at least one adenoma(A), one proximal adenoma(PA), one distal adenoma(DA), and one proximal serrated polyp(PSP) was assessed by using multilevel logistic regression *** The observed detection rates among the 18 endoscopists ranged from 24.6% to 47.6%(mean = 35.7%) for A, from 19.1% to 39.0%(mean = 29.4%) for DA, from 6.0% to 22.9%(mean = 12.4%) for PA, and from 1.3% to 19.3%(mean = 6.9%) for *** adjusting for patient-level variables(sex, age), the interendoscopist detection rates variability achieved a significant level for A, PA, and PSP but not for DA(P = 0.03, P = 0.02, P = 0.02 and P = 0.08, respectively). Introduction: Acute rheumatic fever (AAR) is a non-suppurative complication of late infection by group A. Infections due to streptococci remain a public health problem in the Central African Republic. The present study aims to determine the incidence rate of AAR cases and its complications. Methodology: This was a retrospective and analytical study over a period of 4 years (from January 2015 to December 2018) at the national Laboratory of Clinical Biology and Public Health (LnBCSP) in Bangui. It focused on samples concerning the diagnosis of AAR and patient files seen in consultation in the capital’s reference health establishments. Laboratory registers and patient consultation files were used to collect data. They were entered into Excel 2010 to be analyzed with Epi Info 7. A univariate analysis by logistic regression, Ficher’s exact test, and chi2 at the 5% threshold (p Results: We analyzed 94 cases meeting Jones’s criteria. The ages of the patients ranged from 18 to 85 years (mean age 52 years and mode 45 years). The incidence rate of AAR for the female sex was higher than that of the male sex during the study period (p > 0.05). It went from 166.6 in 2015 to 200 in 2016 and 2018 cases of AAR per 1000 people per year. The average incidence rate was 296.18 cases of AAR per 1000 people per year. The average incidence rate was 223.5 cases of AAR per 1000 people per year for joint damage. Joint damage represented 80.85% (RR = 0.62;Chi2 = 4.88;95% CI [0.39-0.97];p Conclusion: The study allowed data on the impact rate and complications of the AAR in Bangui. Special attention to data management will help produce a complete result on the problem. Joint complications predominated. Sustaining an effective surveillance system and preventing infection would help reduce the risk of AAR occurrence.

The nest environment may limit the ability of nest-bound birds to hear sounds from the outside *** vocal learning species,such as humans and songbirds,it is vital for young animals to hear the voices of conspecific animals early in *** songbirds,nest structure varies considerably across species,and the resulting impact on sound transmission may have consequences for vocal learning in *** this study,we tested the hypothesis that the nest environment attenuates song of Savannah Sparrows(Passerculus sandwichensis),grassland songbirds that build nests on the ground under cover of dense *** recorded live Savannah Sparrows singing at variable distances from 21 *** recorded songs using one microphone inside the nest(the typical position of a nestling)and another placed 1 m directly above the nest(a typical position of an adult).We found a substantial reduction in signal-to-noise ratio,where songs recorded inside the nest were an average of 11 dB lower than songs recorded directly above the *** estimate that the attenuation imposed by the nest reduced the maximum acoustic environment from 117.7 m(for recordings above the nest),to 78.6 m(for recordings within the nest),which is analogous to listening from a position 39.1 m farther away from the *** research estimated that song transmits up to 100 m in this species,so any adult male within 100 m of a young bird was previously considered a potential vocal *** reducing the nestling acoustic environment from 100 m to 78.6 m,the number of male tutors available to nestlings is reduced by an average of 27%.Given the growing evidence that song learning begins very early in life,future research on vocal development should account for how the structural properties of the natal environment affect the songs that nestlings hear.

AIM: To investigate whether an endoscopy-based management could prevent the long-term risk of postoperative ***: From the pathology department database, we retrospectively retrieved the data of all the patients operated on for Crohn’s disease (CD) in our center (1986-2015). Endoscopy-based management was defined as systematic postoperative colonoscopy (median time after surgery = 9.5 mo) in patients with no clinical postoperative recurrence at the time of ***: From 205 patients who underwent surgery, 161 patients (follow-up > 6 mo) were included. Endoscopic postoperative recurrence occurred in 67.6%, 79.7%, and 95.5% of the patients, respectively 5, 10 and 20 years after surgery. The rate of clinical postoperative recurrence was 61.4%, 75.9%, and 92.5% at 5, 10 and 20 years, respectively. The rate of surgical postoperative recurrence was 19.0%, 38.9% and 64.7%, respectively, 5, 10 and 20 years after surgery. In multivariate analysis, previous intestinal resection, prior exposure to anti-TnF therapy before surgery, and fistulizing phenotype (B3) were postoperative risk factors. Previous perianal abscess/fistula (other perianal lesions excluded), were predictive of only symptomatic recurrence. In multivariate analysis, an endoscopy-based management (n = 49/161) prevented clinical (HR = 0.4, 95%CI: 0.25-0.66, P nd surgical postoperative recurrence (HR = 0.30, 95%CI: 0.13-0.70, P = 0.006).COnCLUSIOn: Endoscopy-based management should be recommended in all CD patients within the first year after surgery as it highly decreases the long-term risk of clinical recurrence and reoperation.

In this study we implemented an axillary SLn invasion model to develop highly sensitive imaging strategies enabling detection of a very small amount of tumor cells. A highly diffusible molecular probe targeting αvβ3 and αvβ5 integrins was investigated either via IV or locoregional injections. We additionally documented the potential interferences of this near Infrared Fluorescence Probe with Blue Patente V and ICG dyes routinely used to facilitate lymph node detection during surgery. The human mammary adenocarcinoma MDA-MB-231-luc model was injected into the forepaw of nude female rats to obtain a controlled invasion of the axillary Ln. Thanks to its high sensitivity, BLI was selected to achieve in vivo quantitation of tumor cells in SLns and determine eligible animals for the study. nIRF of integrins was performed at 680 nm both in vivo and ex vivo using spectral unmixing to suppress auto-fluorescence signal and preserve sensitivity. In vivo BLI was quite reliable in estimating discrete invasion by cancer cells in the Ln with thresholds of detection and quantitation of about 500 and 1500 cells respectively. For fluorescence at 680 nm, in vivo imaging is not suitable to detect micro-invasion, but ex vivo fluorescence with spectral unmixing of SLns confirmed the presence of a tumor burden as low as 1500 cells expressing αvβ3/αvβ5 integrins. Targeting few tumor cells inside a micro-invaded sentinel lymph node by molecular probes is not sensitive enough to provide direct in vivo or peroperative imaging. At the time nIRF is performed on the excised specimen, high sensitivity imaging associated with spectral unmixing allowed such detection within less than 1 minute of examination.
