Seasonal Inhomogeneity of Soot Particles over the Central Indo-Gangetic Plains,India:Influence of Meteorology

Black.carbon（BC） particles play a unique and important role in earth’s climate *** was measured（in-situ） in the central part of the Indo-Gangetic Plains（IGP） at Varanasi,which is a highly populated and polluted region due to its topography and extensive emission *** annual mean BC mass concentration was 8.92 ± 7.0 μg m-3,with 34%of samples exceeding the average ***,BC was highest during the post-monsoon and winter periods（approximately 18 μg m-3） and lower in the premonsoon/monsoon seasons（approximately 6 μg m-3）.The highest frequency（approximately 46%） observed for BC mass was in the interval from 5 to 10 μg ***,during the post-monsoon season,the most common values（approximately 23%） were between 20 and 25 μg *** nighttime concentrations of BC were approximately twice as much as the daytime values because of lower boundary layer heights at *** Angstrom exponent was significantly positively correlated（0.55） with ground-level BC concentrations,indicating the impact of BC on the columnar aerosol *** estimated mean absorption Angstrom exponent was 1.02 ± 0.08 μg m-3,indicating that the major source of BC was from fossil fuel *** negative correlations between BC mass and meteorological parameters indicate a pronounced effect of atmospheric dynamics on the BC mass in this *** highest mean BC mass concentration（18.1 ± 6.9 μg m-3） as a function of wind speed was under calm wind conditions（38%of the time）.

Numerical Algorithm Based on Quintic Nonpolynomial Spline for Solving Third-Order Boundary Value Problems Associated with Draining and Coating Flows

A numerical algorithm is developed for the approximation of the solution to certain boundary value problems involving the third-order ordinary differential equation associated with draining and coating flows. The authors show that the approximate so- lutions obtained by the numerical algorithm developed by using uonpolynomial quintic spline functions ave better than those produced by other spline and domain decomposition methods. The algorithm is tested on two problems associated with draining and coating flows to demonstrate the practical usefulness of the approach.

A 2000 Year Multi-Proxy Evidence of Natural/Anthropogenic Influence on Climate from the Southwest Coast of India

The last millennium climate reconstructions are complex and limit our understanding of the mechanisms behind environmental and climate variability. We present multi-proxy centennial-scale records from the Cherai, southwest India. The last 2000 cal yr AD record suggests a complex environmental condition that prevailed at the depositional site augmenting the role of natural as well as anthropogenic agents. Increased elemental variations and indices values indicate stronger weathering, presumably wetter conditions and intense precipitation. Provenance studies suggest diverse sources and the main composition fall close to the Charnock.te and Gneissic composition. Multi-proxy data suggests that a shift towards wetter climatic conditions, which occurred from 910 to 1230 cal yr AD. The core also records a shift towards the drier conditions that started around 1230 cal yr AD with a loss in vegetation diversity. The pollution load index values suggest that the overall study area falls in moderate contamination levels, which are also substantiated with the diatom data indicating human influence in the natural habitat during the deposition time. The present study reveals that the enhanced Cd and As concentration is due to strong anthropogenic influence. We compared the multi-proxy record with other continental and marine palaeoclimatic records to explore global and/or regional trends in climate variability during the last 2000 years.

Numerical Treatment of Nonlinear Third Order Boundary Value Problem

In this paper, the boundary value problems for nonlinear third order differential equations are treated. A generic approach based on nonpolynomial quintic spline is developed to solve such boundary value problem. We show that the approximate solutions of such problems obtained by the numerical algorithm developed using nonpolynomial quintic spline functions are better than those produced by other numerical methods. The algorithm is tested on a problem to demonstrate the practical usefulness of the approach.

以抗旱甘蔗品种ROC22为材料,调查水分胁迫及胁迫加喷施脱落酸(ABA)对甘蔗内源ABA合成及相关生理生化作用的影响。结果表明,干旱及干旱加外施ABA的条件下,甘蔗内源ABA合成水平上升,但干旱加ABA处理增幅更显著,甘蔗叶内的脯氨酸(Pro)、H2O2、丙二醛(MDA)含量增加,而ABA处理能缓解MDA的积累,使其含量处于低水平,ABA处理能防止叶绿素降解并对干旱引起的最大光能转化效率(Fv/Fm)、PSII实际量子效率(ΦPSII)下降有明显的缓解作用。干旱条件下,H2O2的积累伴随着抗氧化作用的酶CAT、GPX、GR和APX的活性提高,而ABA处理能进一步提高这些相关酶的活性而逐渐降低H2O2的含量,表明干旱条件下,外施ABA能增强甘蔗的抗氧化防护系统,提高抗旱性。

Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization of Chick.n Eggshell-Reinforced Al6061 Matrix Composites

Chick.n eggshell (ES) is an aviculture byproduct that has been used as the reinforcement in the present study which is recorded worldwide as one of the vilest environmental problems. The present work.deals with development of ES-reinforced Al6061 matrix composites by stir-casting process with 0 to 10 wt% of reinforcement at an interval of 2 wt%. The microstructures of the fabricated composites were examined by optical and scanning electron microscopes with energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM/EDS). Optical micrographs divulge the uniform distribution of reinforcing particles in the matrix while X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns ensure the dispersion of ES particles reinforcement in Al6061 matrix. The properties measured include density, tensile strength and hardness values. The tensile strength and hardness of composites increase with the addition of ES particles and the maximum values were achieved at 4 wt%. Further increase of ES particles in the matrix leads to decrease in hardness and strength owing to increase in porosity.

ATP柠檬酸裂解酶(ACL)为细胞质中乙酰辅酶A合成途径的关键调控酶,在生物体正常生长发育中有重要作用。本研究通过Race和电子克隆技术获得编码甘蔗ACL蛋白2个亚基的基因SoACLA-1和SoACLB-1,其编码框长度分别为1272bp和1827bp,编码423个和608个氨基酸,推测的氨基酸序列与其他物种具有高度相似性,都优先与禾本科植物聚于同一进化分支。2个基因在ATP-grasp功能域、柠檬酸结合位点、组氨酸磷酸化位点和ATP结合、CoA结合、磷酸化区域等,序列高度保守。实时荧光定量PCR结果表明,2个基因均受外源ABA、水分胁迫、水分胁迫加ABA处理诱导表达,且叶中表达量显著高于根系,其中又以水分胁迫处理下的表达量最高,2个基因表现出协同表达模式。SoACLA-1和SoACLB-1的表达与ABA、ROS含量具有相关性,说明它们可能参与了ABA调控的植物对逆境胁迫反应的代谢过程。

Leaf Colour Chart vis-a-vis Nitrogen Management in Different Rice Genotypes

A field trial comprising 3 rice varieties (NDR-359, Sarju 52, HUBR 2-1) and 4 LCC scores (≤ 2, ≤ 3, ≤ 4, ≤ 5) along with the recommended dose of N was conducted in a split plot design to calibrate the LCC for nitrogen requirement of rice. Maximum grain yields of NDR-359, Sarju 52 at LCC ≤ 5 and HUBR 2-1 at LCC ≤ 4 were found to be 47.10, 40.66 and 36.04 q/ha respectively. The critical LCC score for real time nitrogen requirement for NDR 359 and Sarju 52 was found to be ≤ 5, while for HUBR 2-1 it was ≤ 4. Agronomic and recovery efficiency of nitrogen also followed the same trend. In the functional relationship between SPAD value and LCC score, while it was linear in NDR-359 and Sarju 52, for HUBR 2-1 it was quadratic. Further a positive correlation between SPAD values and LCC score was observed in all the 3 varieties.
