Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with benign gastrointestinal disorders

AIM:To explore associations between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and benign gastrointestinal and pancreato-biliary ***:Patient demographics,diagnoses,and hospital outcomes from the 2010 Nationwide Inpatient Sample were *** liver diseases were identified using International Classification of Diseases,the 9thRevision,Clinical Modification *** with NAFLD were compared to those with other chronic liver diseases for the endpoints of total hospital charges,disease severity,and hospital *** stepwise logistic regression analyses to assess for the independent association of demographic,comorbidity,and diagnosis variables with the event of NAFLD(vs other chronic liver diseases)were also ***:Of 7800441 discharge records,32347(0.4%)and 271049(3.5%)included diagnoses of NAFLD and other chronic liver diseases,*** patients were younger(average 52.3 years vs55.3 years),more often female(58.8%vs 41.6%),less often black(9.6%vs 18.6%),and were from higher income areas(23.7%vs 17.7%)compared to counterparts with other chronic liver diseases(all P<0.0001).Diabetes mellitus(43.4%vs 28.9%),hypertension(56.9%vs 47.6%),morbid obesity(36.9%vs 8.0%),dyslipidemia(37.9%vs 15.6%),and the metabolic syndrome(28.75%vs 8.8%)were all more common among NAFLD patients(all P<0.0001).The average total hospital charge($39607 vs$51665),disease severity scores,and intra-hospital mortality(0.9%vs6.0%)were lower among NALFD patients compared to those with other chronic liver diseases(all P<0.0001).Compared with other chronic liver diseases,NAFLD was significantly associated with diverticular disorders[OR=4.26(3.89-4.67)],inflammatory bowel diseases[OR=3.64(3.10-4.28)],gallstone related diseases[OR=3.59(3.40-3.79)],and benign pancreatitis[OR=2.95(2.79-3.12)]on multivariable logistic regression(all P<0.0001)when the latter disorders were the principal diagnoses on hospital *** relationships were observ

The effects of annealing temperatures and chelating agents on the structural and optical properties of ZnO nanoparticles were *** average particle size of ZnO nanoparticles increased with increase of annealing *** decrease of the full width at half maximum(FWHM)with increasing annealing temperatures inferred increase of particle/grain *** grain sizes were also observed to be increased with increase of annealing *** the absorption spectra of the samples,the absorption was red-shifted and the energy band gap was blue-shifted with increase of annealing temperatures.A sharp UV emission peak was observed and the intensity of this peak increased with annealing temperatures corresponding to the high crystallinity in the *** high annealing temperature of 700℃,ZnO exhibited a less intense deep level *** negligible deep level emission was attributed to the oxygen vacancies created at higher annealing temperatures.

Hormonal contraception for human males:prospects

Development of an ideal hormonal contraceptive for man has been the goal of several research workers during thepast few decades. Suppression of pituitary gonadotropic hormones, which in turn would inhibit spermatogenesis whilemaintaining normal libido and potentia has been the approach for a contraceptive agent. Intramuscularly administeredand orally active testosterone or testosterone in combination with progesterone have been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis resulting in azoospermia in normal men. Similarly testosterone has been used in combination with go-nadotropin releasing hormone antagonists and agonists to inhibit pituitary gonadotropic hormone release. Immunologicalapproach to neutralize the circulating levels of follicle stimulating hormone has also been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis. The available literature shows that testosterone causes reversible azoospermia without any significantside effects in Asian population effectively and appears to be a promising chemical for control of fertility in man.

Trusted Certified Auditor Using Cryptography for Secure Data Outsourcing and Privacy Preservation in Fog-Enabled VANETs

With the recent technological developments,massive vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs)have been established,enabling numerous vehicles and their respective Road Side Unit(RSU)components to communicate with *** best way to enhance traffic flow for vehicles and traffic management departments is to share thedata they *** needs to be more protection for the VANET *** effective and safe methodof outsourcing is suggested,which reduces computation costs by achieving data security using a homomorphicmapping based on the conjugate operation of *** research proposes a VANET-based data outsourcingsystem to fix the *** keep data outsourcing secure,the suggested model takes cryptography models *** will keep the generated keys for the purpose of vehicle *** controlling and overseeingthe outsourced data while preserving privacy,the suggested approach considers the Trusted Certified Auditor(TCA).Using the secret key,TCA can identify the genuine identity of VANETs when harmful messages *** proposed model develops a TCA-based unique static vehicle labeling system using cryptography(TCA-USVLC)for secure data outsourcing and privacy preservation in *** proposed model calculatesthe trust of vehicles in 16 ms for an average of 180 vehicles and achieves 98.6%accuracy for data encryption toprovide *** proposedmodel achieved 98.5%accuracy in data outsourcing and 98.6%accuracy in privacypreservation in fog-enabled *** curve cryptography models can be applied in the future for betterencryption and decryption rates with lightweight cryptography operations.

CFD modeling of pressure drop and drag coefficient in fixed beds:Wall effects

Simulations of fixed beds having column to particle diameter ratio （D/dp） of 3, 5 and 10 were performed in the creeping, transition and turbulent flow regimes, where Reynolds number （dpVLρL/μL） was varied from 0.1 to 10,000. The deviations from Ergun＇s equation due to the wall effects, which are important in D/dp 〈 15 beds were well explained by the CFD simulations. Thus, an increase in the pressure drop was observed due to the wall friction in the creeping flow, whereas, in turbulent regime a decrease in the pressure drop was observed due to the channeling near the wall. It was observed that, with an increase in the D/dp ratio, the effect of wall on drag coefficient decreases and drag coefficient nearly approaches to Ergun＇s equation. The predicted drag coefficient values were in agreement with the experimental results reported in the literature, in creeping flow regime, whereas in turbulent flow the difference was within 10-15%.

Effect of organo-modified montmorillonite nanoclay on mechanical,thermal and ablation behavior of carbon fiber/phenolic resin composites

The mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of carbon phenolic(C-Ph)composites(Type-I)reinforced with different weight percentages of organo-modified montmorillonite(o-MMT)nanoclay have been studied *** milling was used to disperse different weight(wt)percentages(0,1,2,4,6 wt.%)of nanoclay into phenolic *** changes to resin due to nanoclay was *** the other hand,nanoclay added phenolic matrix composites(Type-II)were prepared to study the dispersion of nanoclay in phenolic matrix by small angle X-ray scattering and thermal stability changes to the matrix by thermogravimetric analyser(TGA).This data was used to understand the mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of Type-I *** laminar shear strength(ILSS),flexural strength and flexural modulus of Type I composites increased by about 29%,12%and 7%respectively at2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which these properties *** was attributed to reduced fiber volume fraction(%Vf)of Type-I composites due to nanoclay addition at such high *** ablation rate of Type-I composites was evaluated using oxy acetylene torch test at low heat flux(125 W/cm^(2))and high heat flux levels(500 W/cm^(2)).Mass ablation rates have increased at both flux levels marginally up to 2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which it has increased *** is in contrast to increased thermal stability observed for Type-I and Type-II composites up to 2 wt.%addition of *** ablation rates due to nanoclay addition was attributed to higher insulation efficiency of nanolcay,which accumulates more heat energy in limited area behind the ablation front and self-propagating ablation mechanisms triggered by thermal decomposition of organic part of nanoclay.

It is known from experiments that in the presence of soluble antigen,B-cell receptors(BCRs)assemble into microclusters and then collect into a macrocluster known as a‘cap’.However,the mechanisms of BCR cluster formation during recognition of soluble antigens remain *** previous work,we demonstrated that effective intrinsic attractions among BCRs can lead to the formation of small microclusters of BCR *** effective intrinsic attractions could be caused by multivalent antigen binding,association with lipid rafts,or other biochemical *** the present study,we have developed and studied a Monte Carlo model of BCR clustering mediated by explicit binding and crosslinking of soluble bivalent *** crosslinking is shown to microcluster BCRs in an affinity-dependent manner and also in a biologically relevant timescale;however,antigen crosslinking alone does not appear to be sufficient for the formation of a single macrocluster of receptor *** show that directed transport of BCRs is needed to drive the formation of large *** constructed a simple model of directed transport,where BCR molecules diffuse towards the largest cluster or towards a random BCR microcluster,which results in a single macrocluster of receptor *** mechanisms for both types of directed transport are compared using network-based *** also develop and use appropriate network measures to analyze the effect of BCR and antigen concentration on BCR clustering,the stability of the formed clusters over time and the size of BCR–antigen crosslinked chains.

The myth of “minima” and “maxima”,the species of Physalis in the Indian Subcontinent

The status of the names, Physalis minima L. and P. maxima Mill. (Solanaceae), and their alleged presence on the Indian subcontinent are discussed. The issues of nativity and identity of Linnaean Physalis minima are long-debated while the use of the name P. maxima Mill. and its report from India are recent. The available evidence indicates that the name "P. minima L." is misapplied to two different elements, viz., P. angulata L. and P. lagascae Roem. & Schult. The name Physalis minima L. may be rejected as nomen confusum, for which the paper provides the primary information. As on today, it is submerged under the synonymy of P. angulata L. The correct name for the widely known P. minima is P. lagascae. The name "P. maxima Mill." applied to the escape and naturalized weed in the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere is to be substituted by P. pruinosa L., a name misapplied to P. grisea (Waterf.) M. Martínez.

Heat dissipation in graphene foams

Graphene foam(GF)—a three-dimensional network of hollow graphene branches—is a highly attractive material for diverse ***,to date,the heat dissipation characteristics of GFs have not been *** fill this gap,we synthesized GF devices,subjected them to high temperatures,and investigated their thermal behavior by using infrared *** find that while the convective area of GF devices is comparable to that of bulk materials(such as metals),the coefficient of convection of these devices is several orders of magnitude higher than that of *** addition,the GF devices showed a reproducible thermal behavior,which we attribute to negligible temperature-induced morphological changes(as confirmed by Raman analysis).Taken together,our findings suggest GF as a promising candidate material for advanced cooling applications where efficient heat dissipation is needed,e.g.,in electrical circuits.

This study explores the effects of electro-magneto-hydrodynamics,Hall currents,and convective and slip boundary conditions on the peristaltic propulsion of nanofluids(considered as couple stress nanofluids)through porous symmetric *** phenomena of energy and mass transfer are considered under thermal radiation and heat source/*** governing equations are modeled and non-dimensionalized under appropriate dimensionless *** resulting system is solved numerically with MATHEMATICA(with an in-built function,namely the Runge-kutta scheme).Graphical results are presented for various fluid flow quantities,such as the velocity,the nanoparticle temperature,the nanoparticle concentration,the skin friction,the nanoparticle heat transfer coefficient,the nanoparticle concentration coefficient,and the trapping *** results indicate that the nanoparticle heat transfer coefficient is enhanced for the larger values of thermophoresis ***,an intriguing phenomenon is observed in trapping:the trapped bolus is expanded with an increase in the Hartmann ***,the bolus size decreases with the increasing values of both the Darcy number and the electroosmotic parameter.
