Quality of compounded topical 2% diltiazem hydrochloride formulations for anal fissure

AIM:To investigate the quality of topical 2%diltiazem formulations extemporaneously compounded by retail pharmacies openly offering drug-compounding ***:A participating healthcare professional wrote 12 prescriptions for compounded 2%diltiazem cream,with 2 refills allowed per *** 12sets of prescriptions were filled,at intervals of 1-2 wk between refills,at 12 different independent retail pharmacies that openly offer drug-compounding services in a major metropolitan *** 36 resultant preparations,provided as jars or tubes,were shipped,as soon as each was filled,at ambient temperature to the study core laboratory for high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)analysis,within 10 d of *** the HPLC analysis,8 different samples of the topical diltiazem,each approximately 1 g in weight,were taken from prespecified locations within each *** initiate the HPLC analysis,each sample was transferredto a 100 mL volumetric flask,to which methanol was *** HPLC analysis was conducted in accordance with the laboratory-validated method for diltiazem in cream,ointment,and gel *** main outcome measures were potency(percentage of label claim)and content uniformity of the compounded topical 2%diltiazem ***:Of the 36 prescriptions filled,30 were packaged in jars and 6 were packaged as *** prescriptions were specifically for cream formulations,but6 of the 12 pharmacies compounded 2%diltiazem as an ointment;for another pharmacy,which had inadequate labeling,the dosage form was *** United States Pharmacopoeia(USP)standard for potency is 90%-115%of label *** the 36 preparations,5(13.89%)were suprapotent and 13(36.11%)were *** suprapotent prescriptions ranged in potency from 117.2%to 128.5%of label claim,and the subpotent prescriptions ranged in potency from34.8%to 89.8%of label ***(38.9%)preparations lacked content uniformity according to the USP standard of 90%-110%pote

Enhancement in ballistic performance of composite hard armor through carbon nanotubes

Correlation of microstructure and magnetic properties in Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.1)Cu_(0.1)Zr_(0.033))_(6.93) magnets solution-treated at different temperatures

The correlation of microstructure and magnetic properties in Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.1)Cu_(0.1)Zr_(0.033))_(6.93) magnets solution-treated at different temperatures was systematically investigated. It is found that the magnets solution-treated at 1219℃ possess a single 1:7 H phase, exhibiting the homogeneous cellular structure during further aging treatment, leading to the optimum magnetic properties. However, for the magnets solution-treated at 1211 and 1223℃,2:17 H or 1:5 H secondary phase will also form besides 1:7 H main phase, which cannot transform into cellular structure,thus deteriorating the magnetic properties greatly. The irreversible magnetization investigations with recoil loops also propose a non-uniform pinning in the magnets induced by the secondary precipitates. At proper solution temperature, Zr is supposed to occupy the Fe-Fe dumbbell sites in the form of Zr-vacancy pairs, leading to the minimum c/a ratio and thus stabilizing the 1:7 H phase. Finally,Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.1)Cu_(0.1)Zr_(0.033))_(6.93) magnets with the maximum energy product and intrinsic coercivity at 550℃ up to 60.73 kJ·m^(-3) and 553.88 kA·m^(-1) were prepared by powder metallurgy method.

Rainfall partitioning in young clonal plantations Eucalyptus species in a subtropical environment,and implications for water and forest management

Different canopy characteristics of industrial eucalyptus may lead to differences in water evaporation and availability to *** study aims to understand rainfall partitioning in a young clonal plantation(age of 2-4.5 years)of three eucalyptus species by relating tree parameters:diameter at breast height,total height,and leaf area *** measured rainfall,throughfall,stemflow and litter interception,along with the tree *** eucalyptus trees had rainfall interception varying between 22 mm(for 178 mm of rainfall)and 42 mm(for 87 mm of te rainfall),throughfall between 106 mm(for 186 mm of rainfall)and 44 mm(for 74 mm of rainfall),and stemflow between 0.5 mm(for 92 mm of rainfall)and 1.4 mm(for 24 mm of rainfall).For the three species,rainfall interception varied between 12 and 48%,throughfall between 57 and 90%,and stemflow between 0.3 and 5.4%.The coefficient of determination between interception and rainfall was 0.76,indicating interception depends on other variables,possibly including antecedent rainfall,rainfall intensity,and *** decreased with a reduction in leaf area index caused by eucalyptus *** *** had 0.75 mm of throughfall per 1 mm of rainfall,whereas in *** and E saligna,these ratios were 0.71 and 0.68,*** in *** and *** had a higher positive relationship with the diameter at breast height of the trees,whereas in *** the highest relationship was with the *** results contribute to establishing management strategies,such as choosing suitable eucalyptus species to local climate,and to improve the synchronization of crop-demand versus soil-water-supply while maintaining streamflow to fulfill ecological and production needs.

Modelling of microwave assisted hot-air drying and microstructural study of oilseeds

A modelling study was performed to solve the heat and mass transfer problems between grain and the ambient air encountered during drying by microwave assisted hot-air dryer,under low microwave(MW)density of 0.2 W/***(Brassica napus),soybean(Glycine max)and corn(Zea mays)seeds were chosen due to their inherent high oil *** electron microscopy(SEM)was used to study the effect of drying conditions on the structural characteristics of these oilseeds.A mathematical model was adapted to simulate drying of one seed of canola,soybean and *** process of water transfer was modelled based on the effect of vapour pressure on the water molecules inside the *** was observed that when the difference between the vapour pressure inside the grain and the surrounding air was higher than,the drying rate increased which led to cracks in the *** showed that the drying rate decreased when the temperature of air inside the cavity of the microwave increased for all the oilseeds studied,because of the reduced differential vapour pressure between the grain and the ambient *** the other hand,the drying rate increased if the temperature of the inlet air was reduced because the difference between the two pressures *** was concluded that by controlling the ambient air,the grains could be protected against popping and cracking because of lower vapour pressure differential during MW assisted hot-air drying.

The spatial distribution of surface and subsurface soil attributes is an important input to environmental *** attributes represent an important input to the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT),which influence the accuracy of the modeling *** ArcGIS-based tool was developed to predict soil attributes and provide inputs to *** essential inputs are digital elevation model and field *** soil data/maps can be used to derive observations when recent field surveys are not *** layers,such as satellite images and auxiliary data,improve the prediction *** model contains a series of steps(menus)to facilitate iterative *** steps are summarized in deriving many terrain attributes to characterize each pixel based on local attributes as well as the characteristics of the contributing *** model then subdivides the entire watershed into smaller facets(subdivisions of subwatersheds)and classifies these into groups.A linear regression model to predict soil attributes from terrain attributes and auxiliary data are established for each class and implemented to predict soil attributes for each pixel within the class and then merged for the entire watershed or study ***(Soil-Landscape Estimation and Evaluation Program)utilizes Pedo-transfer functions to provide the spatial distribution of the necessary unmapped soil data needed for SWAT *** application of the tool demonstrated acceptable accuracy and better spatial distribution of soil attributes compared with two spatial interpolation *** analysis indicated low sensitivity of SWAT prediction to the number of field observations when SLEEP is used to provide the soil *** demonstrates the potential of SLEEP to support SWAT modeling where soil data is scarce.

Water absorption characteristics of Canarium Schweinfurthii fruits

Water absorption characteristics of two varieties of Canarium Schweinfurthii ***(Canarium Schweinfurthii *** and short)essential for predicting their suitable absorption conditions was investigated at three different temperatures(35,50,65C).Increase in moisture content of the fruits was measured at one-hour interval until constant values were obtained after five successive intervals of moisture *** of soluble constituents,textural and nutritive qualities of the rehydrated products and their thermodynamic behavior were also measured and *** results obtained revealed that saturation time for 35,50 and 65C of long and short varieties are 14,18 and 40 h and 18,22 and 36 h *** of absorption of the fruits differ significantly(p>0.05)with temperature and not with the *** absorption rate of Canarium Schweinfurthii *** and short varieties are 2.71 and 2.25 kg/h *** moisture bearing capacity,textural,and nutritive qualities of the reconstituted products showed no significant difference among varieties at different temperatures *** soaked at 35C produced reusable residual water,retained their nutritive values and soluble constituent more than other soaking temperatures ***,the absorption reaction is endothermic with negative entropy and Gibbs energy values were above *** model had the best quality for describing the absorption characteristics of both Canarium Schweifurthii ***.

Effects of spatial and temporal weather data resolutions on streamflow modeling of a semi-arid basin,Northeast Brazil

One major difficulty in the application of distributed hydrological models is the availability of data with sufficient quantity and quality to perform an adequate evaluation of a watershed and to capture its *** Soil&Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)was used in this study to analyze the hydrologic responses to different sources,spatial scales,and temporal resolutions of weather inputs for the semi-arid Jaguaribe watershed(73000 km2)in northeastern *** different simulations were conducted,based on four groups of weather and precipitation inputs:Group 1-SWAT Weather Generator based on monthly data from four airport weather stations and daily data based on 124 local rain gauges;Group 2-daily local data from 14 weather stations and 124 precipitation gauges;Group 3-Daily values from a global coupled forecast model(NOAA’s Climate Forecast System Reanalysis-CFSR);and Group 4-CFSR data with 124 local precipitation *** four simulations were evaluated using multiple statistical efficiency metrics for four streamflow gauges,using:Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient(NSE),determination coefficient(R2),the ratio of the root mean square to the standard deviation of the observed data(RSR),and the percent bias(PBIAS).The Group 4 simulation performed best overall(provided the best statistical values)with results ranked as“good”or“very good”on all four efficiency metrics suggesting that using CFSR data for weather parameters other than precipitation,coupled with precipitation data from local rain gauges,can provide reasonable hydrologic *** second best results were obtained with Group 1,which provided“good”results in three of four efficiency *** 2 performed worse overall than Groups 1 and 4,probably due to uncertainty related to daily measures and a large percentage of missing *** 2 and 3 were“unsatisfactory”according to three or four of the efficiency metrics,indicating that the choice of weather data is very important.

Evaluation of the Capacitance and Charge Distribution for Conducting Bodies by Circuit Modelling

This paper presents a numerical analysis for computation of free space capacitance of different arbitrarily shaped conducting bodies based on the finite element method with triangular subsection modeling. Evaluation of capacitance of different arbitrary shapes is important for the electrostatic analysis. Capacitance computation is an important step in the prediction of electrostatic discharge which causes electromagnetic interference. We specifically illustrated capacitance computation of electrostatic models like unit cube, rectangular plate, triangular plate, T-shaped plate, sphere and two touching spheres. Numerical data on the capacitance of conducting objects are presented. The results are compared with other available results in the literature. We used the COMSOL Multiphysics software for the simulation. The models are designed in three-dimensional form using electrostatic environment and can be applied to any spacecraft circuit modeling design. The findings of this study show that the finite element method is a more accurate method and can be applied to any circuit modeling design.
