Insular marine biotas are often richer in faunal diversity than those from the open sea in the same geo- graphical region. The existence of particular island effects were tested under polar conditions by compar- ing infaunal benthic assemblages on Peter I Island with those of similar latitudes in the open ocean at the bellingshaus.n sea and also from the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. sampling was carried out aboard the R/V Hesperides during the expedition named bEnTART-2003 from 24 January to 3 March 2003. benthic samples were collected at 18 stations ranging from 90 to 2 044 m depth, us.ng an UsnEL-type box corer （bC） dredge. Repres.ntatives of 32 higher taxa of invertebrates were found. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed various patterns in the data. First, significant differences in polychaete abundance were detected between the stations located in the open sea and the remaining sites （island plus mainland sites）. bivalve abundances were also distinct between island and mainland sampling sites. sediment columns taken from the island seafloor exhibited the highest rate of bioturbation by the infauna. These findings confirm the model that islands develop distinct assemblages characterized by the enhancement of the benthic commu- nities even in cold waters. several abiotic factors were measured simultaneously at the seafloor and along the water column to investigate faunal distribution patterns. significant correlations were found between the benthic assemblages and a combination of two environmental variables：＂island effect＂（measured as a categorical variable） and the redox state of sediments. Richer and more complex benthic assemblages were found in Peter I Island＇s sea bottom, whereas the more depauperate bottoms remained in the open sea.

Effects of aspect ratio on unsteady solutions through curved duct flow

The effects of the aspect ratio on unsteady solutions through the curved duct flow are studied numerically by a spectral based computational procedure with a temperature gradient between the vertical sidewalls for the Grashof number 100 ≤ Gr ≤ 2 000. The outer wall of the duct is heated while the inner wall is cooled and the top and bottom walls are adiabatic. In this paper, unsteady solutions are calculated by the time history analysis of the nusselt number for the Dean numbers Dn = 100 and Dn = 500 and the aspect ratios 1≤γ≤ 3. Water is taken as a working fluid （pr =7.0）. It is found that at Dn = 100, there appears a steady-state solution for small or large Gr. For moderate Gr, however, the steady-state solution turns into the periodic solution if γ is increased. For Dn = 500, on the other hand, it is analyzed that the steady-state solution turns into the chaotic solution for small and large Gr for any γ lying in the range. For moderate Gr at Dn = 500, however, the steady-state flow turns into the chaotic flow through the periodic oscillating flow if the aspect ratio is increased.

Antagonizing amyloid-β/calcium-s.ns.ng receptor signaling in human astrocytes and neurons: a key to halt Alzheimer's disease progression?

Astrocytes＇ roles in late-onset Alzheimer＇s disease （LOAD） promotion are important, s.nce they survive soluble or fibrillar amyloid-β peptides （Aβs） neurotoxic effects, undergo alterations of intracellular and intercellular Ca2＋ signaling and gliotransmitters release via the Aβ/a7-nAChR （αT-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor） signaling, and overproduce/oversecrete newly s.nthesized Aβ42 oligomers, nO, and VEGF-A via the Aβ/Casr （calcium-s.ns.ng receptor） signaling. Recently, it was suggested that the nMDAR （n-methyl-D-aspartate receptor） inhibitor nitromemantine would block the s.napse-destroying effects of Aβ/α7-nAChR signaling. Yet, this and the progressive extracellular accrual and spreading of Aβ42 oligomers would be stopped well upstream by nPs 2143, an allosteric Casr antagonist （calcilytic）.

progress in the rocket industry is only possible on the basis of new, higher performance and more environmentally friendly materials compared to up-to-date propellant ingredients for liquid, solid, gelled and hybrid propellant systems. In this work, s.nthetic methods have been developed for the preparation of new energetic azofurazans bearing nitroxymethyl or azidomethyl groups. All prepared compounds were fully characterized by multinuclear nMR and IR spectroscopies, as well as elemental analyses. An analysis of the structural features based on the X-ray s.ngle-crystal diffraction made it possible to discuss their influence on the densities of the azofurazans of this study. Thermal decomposition and combustion of nitroxymethyl and azidomethyl azofurazans were studied us.ng a number of complementary experimental techniques, namely thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, manometry, microthermocouple measurements in the combustion wave. The structural and physical characteristics of these new energetic analogues illustrate the extent to which the nature of the explosophoric groups can be used to tune the performace of the azofurazan framework. These azofurazans possess positive calculated enthalpy of formation and are promis.ng candidates for new environmentally friendly energetic materials.

Kinetic and Thermodynamic study of Ars.nic (V) Adsorption on P and W Aluminum Functionalized Zeolites and Its Regeneration

In the “Laguna” region of Coahuila state, Mexico like other places in the world, the groundwater needs to be treated to meet the quality required for human consumption. The study had probed that a Mexican fly ash can be used as a raw material to obtain effective low cost adsorbents for drinking water treatment, as well evaluated the effects of pH, ion coexistence, dose, ars.nic (As) concentration and temperature on the As(V) uptake by us.ng P and W modified zeolites (PMOD and WMOD) obtained from a Mexican fly ash. The As(V) adsorption capacity of the WMOD zeolite was.not affected by pH and As(V) concentrations in aqueous solution was achieved 0.01 mg/L in the studied pH range;however, the As(V) removal by us.ng PMOD zeolite decreased at high pH values. Carbonate concentration had a negative effect on the As(V) uptake of both zeolites but this effect was higher for the PMOD zeolite. The maximum adsorption capacities (Qmax) were 76.11 and 44.44 mg of As(V)/g of zeolite for the WMOD and the PMOD zeolites, respectively. The adsorption process was endothermic, spontaneous and occurred by chemical exchange. The experimental data were best interpreted by a pseudo-second order kinetic model. The WMOD zeolite showed a higher adsorption capacity and rate than the PMOD even at the highest evaluated As(V) concentration. The adsorption capacity of the regenerated WMOD zeolite was similar to the original zeolite. because of the high As(V) adsorption capacity, chemical stability and regenerability, the WMOD zeolite is potentially useful as low-cost adsorbent for As(V) removal from aqueous effluents.

1 引言在遥感影象数据分析中,最重要的任务之一就是把影象数据分成不同的地物类型,如土壤、水体和岩石等。在与政策有关的情况下,可能还需要诸如淹没面积,某种作物面积或海岸线长度这样一些准确的定量信息。这种准确的定量信息只有通过使用模式识别(pr)法则才能获得(Tou和Gonzales 1974)。实际上,影象分类是在纯场地和纯象元基础两种情况下实现的。纯场地分类,是将一个小的均一地区(一组彼此相邻的象元)看作所有象元均具有某种状况来进行分类。

The macroporous anion exchangers with long-chained cross-linking agents were investigated for the tungsten recovery from salt *** physical-chemical characteristics of these sorbents were studied by means of sorption-desorption experiment aswell as electron and *** anion exchangers on the basis of macroporous copolymers of methylacrylate and divinyl-ester of diethyleneglycol or tetravinyl-ester of pentaerythritol possess the exchange capacity to tungsten 2--5 times greater than the porous anion exchangers on the basis of styrene and divinylbenzene,therefore they can be used for selective tungsten recovery from comulex salt solutions.
