To examine the correlation between the sizes of sea breeze fronts and pollutants under the influence of synoptic fields, a numerical simulation was conducted in the southeast coastal area of the Korean Peninsula, where relatively high concentrations of pollutants occur because of the presence of various kinds of industrial developments. Sea breeze and sea breeze front days during the period 2005 09 were identified using wind profiler data and, according to the results, the number of days were 72 and 53, respectively. When synoptic forcing was weak, sea breeze fronts moved fast both in horizontal fields and in terms of wind velocity, while in the case of strong synoptic forcing, sea breeze fronts remained at the coast or moved slowly due to strong opposing flows. In this case, the sea breeze front development function and horizontal potential temperature difference were larger than with weak synoptic forcing. The ozone concentration that moves together with sea breeze fronts was also formed along the frontal surfaces. Ozone advection and diffusion in the case of strong synoptic forcing was suppressed at the frontal surface and the concentration gradient was large. The vertical distribution of ozone was very low due to the Thermal Internal Boundary Layer （TIBL） being low.

Statistical Prediction of Heavy Rain in South Korea

This study is aimed at the development of a statistical model for forecasting heavy rain in South Korea. For the 3-hour weather forecast system, the 10 km×10 km area-mean amount of rainfall at 6 stations （Seoul, Daejeon, Gangreung, （Jwangju, Busan, and Jeju） in South Korea are used. And the corresponding 45 synoptic factors generated by the numerical model are used as potential predictors. Four statistical forecast models （linear regression model, logistic regression model, neural network model and decision tree model） for the occurrence of heavy rain are based on the model output statistics （MOS） method. They are separately estimated by the same training data. The thresholds are considered to forecast the occurrence of heavy rain because the distribution of estimated values that are generated by each model is too skewed. The results of four models are compared via Heidke skill scores. As a result, the logistic regression model is recommended.

The study presents an experimental evaluation of performance properties of two different production processes of warm rubberized *** types of rubberized binder were produced through dry process and wet process and two of the available wax additives were added into the rubberized binders(i.e.,LEADCAP and Sasobit).Rubberized binders with wax additives were artificially short-term and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven(RTFO) and pressure aging vessel(PAV) *** binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer(RV),the dynamic shear rheometer(DSR),and the bending beam rheometer(BBR).In general,the results of this study indicated that(1) the viscosity properties have been found to be similar between dry and wet processes,(2) the rubberized binders manufactured by wet process were observed to have the higher rutting resistance than those by dry process,(3) the wet process resulted in better performance in the fatigue cracking test than the dry process,and(4) the blending method was found to have little influence of stiffness properties.

In the United States,more than 94%highways are paved with asphalt materials and placing crack sealant materials has been a common pavement maintenance for *** sealing treatment includes the use of a router to create a reservoir on the intended cracks whereas crack filling is given without doing any modification to the crack *** the initial cost of crack sealing is higher,it is expected to have a longer service period compared to crack *** is little research on comparison of short and long term cost effectiveness between these two treatments using the real field cost data *** this study four test sites in Texas were treated with crack filling and sealing using the same sealant material and finishing *** effectiveness of both treatments was measured in terms of initial,annual average and life cycle cost based on the cost inputs during *** general,the results of this study indicated that(1)on an average approximately 45%initial cost increase was estimated with the two routing configurations of crack sealing;(2)material and labor cost is found to have the most significant effect on the higher initial cost of crack sealing compared to other associated costs;(3)annual average and life cycle costs have shown that crack sealing is more cost effective pavement maintenance compared to crack filling over a long period of time;(4)agency cost is observed to be reduced by approximately 24%with crack sealing treatment based on the35 year analysis period.

The crystallization behavior of wollastonite glass-ceramics was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD） analysis and surface morphological observations, and the chemical compositions were evaluated by field emission-scanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM） and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS）. Various heat treatment temperatures （850, 900, 950, 1000 and 1050 ℃） were used to obtain glass-ceramics of the ideal wollastonite crystal phase as well as optimum mechanical properties and chemical durability. From XRD, FE-SEM and EDS, the crystallization of acicular crystal phase in the matrix was achieved at heat treatment temperature of 1000 and 1050 ℃, and wollastonite （CaSiO3） was found in the acicular type main crystal phase in the glass-ceramics. Various properties, such as density, compressive strength, bending strength and chemical durability were also examined. The mechanical properties of glass-ceramics obtained at the heat treatment temperature of 1000 and 1050 ℃ were superior to those obtained at the heat treatment temperature of 850 ℃.

This paper addresses the laboratory experiment of performance properties of recycled CRM binders containing artificially aged CRM binders with wax additives. The warm CRM binders were produced using two wax additives （LEADCAP and Sasobit） and then shortterm and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven （RTFO） and pressure aging vessel （PAV） procedures. The recycled CRM binders were aged through the RTFO and PAV pro- cedures. A set of Superpave binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer, the dynamic shear rheometer （DSR）, and the bending beam rheometer （BBR）. In general, the results of this study indicated that （1） the addition of longterm aged （LTA） CRM binder can significantly increase the viscosity of the recycled CRM binders as expected, （2） the wax additives in recycled CRM binders were still effective to improve the viscosity and rutting properties even after experiencing the aging process, （3） the CRM binders containing wax additives showed the higher rutting resistance compared to the control CRM binders, （4） the recycled CRM binder containing wax additives was found to have less resistance to fatigue and low temperature cracking, （5） wax warm additives into the recycled CRM binders seemed to have a significant role for cracking properties, based upon their substantial amount.

BACKGROUND： Combined hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma （cHCC-CC） is a rare subtype of primary liver cancer consisting of both hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） and cholangiocarcinoma （CC）. Because of the rarity of this tumor, its feature is poorly understood. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological features and long-term prognosis of patients with cHCC-CC after surgery and to compare with those of the patients with stage-matched HCC and CC. METHODS： The dinicopathological features of the patients who underwent surgery for cHCC-CC at our center during the period of 2001-2010 were retrospectively analyzed and compared with those of stage-matched HCC and CC patients. Cancer staging was performed according to the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual （6th ed.）. Overall survival and disease-free survival were compared among the groups and prognostic factors of cHCC-CC were evaluated. RESULTS： Significant differences were observed in clinico- pathological features among 42 patients with cHCC-CC, 90 patients with HCC and 45 patients with CC. Similar to HCC patients, cHCC-CC patients had frequent hepatitis B virus antigen positivity, microscopic vessel invasion, cirrhosis and high level of serum alpha-fetoprotein. Similar to CC patients, cHCC-CC patients showed increased bile duct invasion and decreased capsule. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival and disease- free survival of patients with cHCC-CC were not significantly different from those with stage-matched patients with CC;but significantly poorer than those with HCC. In subanalysis of patients with stage Ⅱ, the overall survival in patients with cHCC-CC or CC was significantly poorer than that in patients with HCC. We did not find the difference in patients with other stages. Univariate analysis of overall and disease-free survival of patients with cHCC-CC showed that the vascular invasion and intrahepatic metastasis were the significant predictive factors. Poly（3-hexylthiophene）（P3HT） has received much attention as a good candidate to replace inorganic semiconductors for flexible electronics due to its solution-processability. However, the low charge mobility of P3HT is an obstacle to its commercialization. To overcome this problem, we propose a new non-covalent functionalization method for carbon nanotubes （CNTs） for use in CNT/P3HT nanocomposites. By using modified pyrene molecules with hydrophobic long alkyl chains, the non-covalently functionalized CNTs can become well dispersed in hydrophobic solutions and organic semiconductor matrices. Fabrication of organic thin-film transistors （OTFTs） from the non-covalently functionalized CNT/organic semiconductor nanocomposites shows that our non-covalent functionalization method significantly reduces damage to CNTs during functionalization when compared with covalent functionalization by treatment with acids. The OTFTs show 15 times enhancement of field effect mobility （1.5 × 10^-2 cm^2/（V.s）） compared to the mobility of OTFTs made from pure P3HT. This enhancement is achieved by addition of only 0.25 wt% of CNTs to P3HT.

Ionizing radiation is one of the most effective tools in cancer therapy. In a previous study, we reported that protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitors modulate the radiation responses in the human chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell line K562. The receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, genistein, delayed radiation-induced cell death, while non-recepter tyrosine kinase inhibitor, herbimycin A (HMA) enhances radiation-induced apoptosis. In this study, we focused on the modulation of radiation-induced cell death by genistein and performed PCR-select suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) to understand its molecular mechanism. We identified human thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), which is cell cycle regulatory gene and confirmed expression of TK1 mRNA by Northern blot analysis. Expression of TKl mRNA and TK1 enzymatic activity were parallel in their increase and decrease. TK1 is involved in G1-S phase transition of cell cycle progression.
