Imaging for deep brain stimulation:The zona incerta at 7 Tesla

AIM:To evaluate different promising magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) methods at 7.0 Tesla(T) for the pre-stereotactic visualization of the zona incerta(ZI).METHOdS:Two neuroradiologists qualitatively and quantitatively examined T2-turbo spin-echo(T2-TSE),T1-weighted gradient-echo,as well as fLASH2d-T2Star and susceptibility-weighted imaging(SWI) for the visualization of the ZI at 7.0 T *** and image quality for the ZI were independently examined using a 6-scale grading ***-rater reliability using Cohen's kappa coefficient(κ) were ***-tonoise ratios(CNR),and signal-to-noise ratios(SNR) for the ZI were calculated for all *** in delineation,SNR,and CNR between the sequences were statistically assessed using a paired *** the anatomic validation the coronal fLASH2d-T2Star images were co-registered with a stereotactic atlas(Schaltenbrand-Wahren).RESULTS:The rostral part of the ZI(rZI) could easily be identified and was best and reliably visualized in the coronal fLASH2d-T2Star *** caudal part was not definable in any of the *** major artifacts in the rZI were observed in any of the ***2d-T2Star and SWI imaging offered significant higher CNR values for the rZI compared to T2-TSE images(P > 0.05).The co-registration of the coronal fLASH2d-T2Star images with the stereotactic atlas schema(Schaltenbrand-Wahren) confirmed the correct localization of the ZI in all ***:fLASH2d-T2Star imaging(particularly coronal view) provides the reliable and currently optimal visualization of the rZI at 7.0 *** results can facilitate a better and more precise targeting of the caudal part of the ZI than ever before.

RompecPC: A computerized program to create and solve jigsaw puzzles

RompecPC is a computerized program designed to create and assemble jigsaw puzzles. The program automatically records the solver’s responses as the number of pieces positioned correctly, the number of correct and incorrect movements, the number of times that she/he attempts to move a piece to the same place (perseverations), and the latency and place to which each piece is moved or attempted to be moved. These features facilitate the implementation and evaluation of puzzles while also reducing human error. Therefore, RompePC is a useful tool for the neuropsychological assessment of visuospatial skills in both clinical and experimental research.

The Tomato Hybrid Proline-rich Protein(THyPRP)gene was specifically expressed in the tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)flower abscission zone(fAZ),and its stable antisense silencing under the control of an abscission zone(AZ)-specific promoter,Tomato Abscission Polygalacturonase4,significantly inhibited tomato pedicel abscission following flower *** understanding the THyPRP role in regulating pedicel abscission,a transcriptomic analysis of the fAZ of THyPRP-silenced plants was performed,using a newly developed AZ-specific tomato microarray *** expression of THyPRP in the silenced plants was already observed before abscission induction,resulting in fAZ-specific altered gene expression of transcription factors,epigenetic modifiers,post-translational regulators,and *** data demonstrate that the effect of THyPRP silencing on pedicel abscission was not mediated by its effect on auxin balance,but by decreased ethylene biosynthesis and ***,THyPRP silencing revealed new players,which were demonstrated for the first time to be involved in regulating pedicel abscission *** include:gibberellin perception,Ca2+-Calmodulin signaling,Serpins and Small Ubiquitin-related Modifier proteins involved in post-translational modifications,Synthaxin and SNARE-like proteins,which participate in exocytosis,a process necessary for cell *** changes,occurring in the silenced plants early after flower removal,inhibited and/or delayed the acquisition of the competence of the fAZ cells to respond to ethylene *** results suggest that THyPRP acts as a master regulator of flower abscission in tomato,predominantly by playing a role in the regulation of the fAZ cell competence to respond to ethylene signals.

Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor. despite its prevalence and importance in pediatric neuro-oncology, the genes and pathways responsible for its initiation, maintenance, and progression remain poorly understood. Genetically engineered mouse models are an essential tool for uncovering the molecular and cellular basis of human diseases, including cancer, and serve a valuable role as preclinical models for testing targeted therapies. In this review, we summarize how such models have been successfully applied to the study of medulloblastoma over the past decade and what we might expect in the coming years.

Clinical and Ultrasound Concordance of Joint damages in Rheumatoid Arthritis in a Resource-Limited Country

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common chronic inflammatory rheumatism. The increasing use of bone and joint ultrasound as a tool to aid in the detection of unrefined synovitis in developed countries, has led us to study the performance of ultrasound in the diagnosis of RA in subjects consulting in rheumatology at Cotonou. Study Method: descriptive cross-sectional study of patients with RA, selected on the basis of ACR/ EULAR 2010 criteria. A complete clinical examination with imaging including X-rays and ultrasounds of the hands and feet were performed in all patients who have given their consent. The data collected was analyzed using EPI data 3.1 and SPSS 24.0 software. The significance rate was defined with a p-value d to assess agreement. Results: All 53 patients included had lesions on ultrasound. Synovitis was found in 98.1% and bone erosions in 88.7%. There was no agreement in the wrists between clinical examination and ultrasound (k = -0.116), MCP (k = -0.097) and MTP (k = -0.031). Agreement was very low at the PPI level (k = 0.03). It was low at the different sites, between ultrasound and radiographic detection of lesions (k between 0.022 - 0.22). Age, positive immunologic RA factor and biological inflammatory syndrome were associated with ultrasound erosions (p = 0.0001) and only age was associated with active synovitis (p = 0.022). Conclusion: Bone and articular ultrasound is a good complementary alternative to clinical examination and radiography diagnostic in early diagnosis of RA in our developing countries, in the absence of MRI which remains a luxury.

OSL dating of Coastal Post-Barreiras Sediments from Northern Brazil

In the present work, luminescence dating of sedimentary deposits, from the coast of the State of Maranhao, in northeast Brazil, was done. Samples were collected from the Post-Barreiras sediments, a quartzose sandy unit that is extensive along the entire northeast and northern Brazilian coast, where they occur overlying early to middle Miocene Barreiras formation. A great part of the Post-Barreiras sediments is massive, which precludes its depositional setting interpretation. However, this unit consists of three successions, the lowermost one including highly bioturbated deposits suggestive of marine influence, and the two uppermost ones displaying dune dissipative structures related to eolian processes along coastal areas. The study aimed to compare MAR (multiple aliquot regeneration) and SAR (single aliquot regeneration) protocols for dating these deposits. discussion involving origins of depositions will also include single aliquot measurements. The ages obtained by OSL (optical stimulated luminescence)-SAR protocol range from (0.5 ± 0.1) ka to (84 ± 6) ka.

Cd36 genetic variation, fat intake and liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C virus infection

AIM To analyze the association of the Cd36 polymorphism(rs1761667) with dietary intake and liver fibrosis(Lf) in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. METHOdS In this study, 73 patients with CHC were recruited. The Cd36 genotype(G > A) was determined by a TaqM an real-time PCR system. dietary assessment was carried out using a three-day food record to register the daily intake of macronutrients. Serum lipids and liver enzymes were measured by a dry chemistry assay. Lf evaluated by transient elastography(fibroscan~)and APRI score was classified as mild Lf(f1-f2) and advanced Lf(f3-f4).RESULTS Overall, the Cd36 genotypic frequencies were AA(30.1%), AG(54.8%), and GG(15.1%), whereas the allelic A and G frequencies were 57.5% and 42.5%, respectively. CHC patients who were carriers of the Cd36 AA genotype had a higher intake of calories attributable to total fat and saturated fatty acids than those with the non-AA genotypes. Additionally, aspartate aminotransferase(AST) serum values were higher in AA genotype carriers compared to non-AA carriers(91.7 IU/L vs 69.8 IU/L, P = 0.02). Moreover, the AA genotype was associated with an increase of 30.23 IU/L of AST(β = 30.23, 95%CI: 9.0-51.46, P = 0.006). Likewise, the AA genotype was associated with advanced Lf compared to the AG(OR = 3.60, 95%CI: 1.16-11.15, P = 0.02) or AG + GG genotypes(OR = 3.52, 95%CI: 1.18-10.45, P = 0.02).CONCLUSION This study suggests that the Cd36(rs1761667) AA genotype is associated with higher fat intake and more instances of advanced Lf in CHC patients.

Contribution of Imaging to the diagnosis of Non-Traumatic Tendinopathies of the Thoracic Limb in a Resource-Constrained Country

Introduction: Tendinopathy of the thoracic limb (TMT) is frequent, and is responsible for an important socio-professional handicap. Medical imaging, in particular, ultrasound has a major role in contributing to the diagnosis. As the use of ultrasound is recent in osteoarticular pathology, especially in Africa, we proposed to determine the contribution of imaging in the diagnosis of tendinopathy of the thoracic limbs in a country with limited resources. Patients and Method: A descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study of patients with tendinopathy of the thoracic limb who consulted the rheumatology department of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou from August 6, 2019 to October 6, 2019. We evaluated the concordance of thoracic limb tendinopathy between imaging (radiography and ultrasound) and the clinic on the one hand and then between radiography and ultrasound on the other hand. The analysis of the collected data was carried out with the Epi-info software version 7.***.1.0. Then the concordance was evaluated by the kappa coefficient. Results: fifty- two (52) patients with 104 joints were evaluated. The average age was 54.92 ± 3.40 years. Clinically, rotator cuff tendinopathy was the most frequent abarticular pathology (45.19%). The clinical-ultrasound agreement was strong (k = 0.7527) for the shoulders, very strong (k = 0.9360) for the elbows and moderate for the wrists (k = 0.6695). The clinical-radiographic agreement was weak (k = 0.2316) at the shoulder level and very weak (k = 0.2087) at the elbow level. The radio-ultrasound agreement was very low in the shoulders (k = 0.1522), elbows (k = 0.1859) and wrists (k = 0.0001). Conclusion: The contribution of imaging in the diagnosis of TMT remains certain even in a country with limited resources like ours.
