Background:National and international institutions periodically demand information on forest indicators that are used for global *** other aspects,the carbon accumulated in the biomass of forest species must be *** this purpose,one of the main sources of data is the National Forest Inventory(NFI),which together with statistical empirical approaches and updating procedures can even allow annual estimates of the requested ***:Stand level biomass models,relating the dry weight of the biomass with the stand volume were developed for the five main pine species in the Iberian Peninsula(Pinus sylvestris,Pinus pinea,Pinus halepensis,Pinus nigra and Pinus pinaster).The dependence of the model on aridity and/or mean tree size was explored,as well as the importance of including the stand form factor to correct model ***,the capability of the models to estimate forest carbon stocks,updated for a given year,was also ***:The strong relationship between stand dry weight biomass and stand volume was modulated by the mean tree size,although the effect varied among the five pine *** humidity,measured using the Martonne aridity index,increased the biomass for a given volume in the cases of Pinus sylvestris,Pinus halepensis and Pinus *** that consider both mean tree size and stand form factor were more accurate and less biased than those that do *** models developed allow carbon stocks in the main Iberian Peninsula pine forests to be estimated at stand level with biases of less than 0.2 Mg·ha^(-1).Conclusions:The results of this study reveal the importance of considering variables related with environmental conditions and stand structure when developing stand dry weight biomass *** described methodology together with the models developed provide a precise tool that can be used for quantifying biomass and carbon stored in the Spanish pine forests in specific years when no field data are available.

In an abstract set up, we get strong type inequalities in L^p＋1 by assuming weak or extra-weak inequalities in Orlicz spaces. For some classes of functions, the number p is related to Simonenko indices. We apply the results to get strong inequal- ities for maximal functions associated to best Ф-approximation operators in an Orlicz space L^Ф.

To better understand the physicochemical conditions in af fecting regional distribution of phytoplankton community, one research cruise was carried out in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea during 3 rd and 23 th May, 2010. The phytoplankton community, including Bacillariophyta(105 taxa), Pyrrophyta(54 taxa), Chrysophyta(1 taxon) and Chlorophyta(2 taxa), had been identified and clearly described from six ecological provinces. And, the six ecological provinces were partitioned based on the top twenty dominant species related with notable physicochemical parameters. In general, the regional distributions of phytoplankton ecological provinces were predominantly influenced by the physicochemical properties induced by the variable water masses and circulations. The predominant diatoms in most of water samples showed well adaptability in turbulent and eutrophic conditions. However, several species of dinoflagellates e.g., Protoperidinium conicum, Protoperidinium triestinum, Protoperidinium sp. and Gymnodinium lohmanni preferred warmer, saltier and nutrient-poor environment. Moreover, the dinoflagellates with high frequency in the Yellow Sea might be transported from the Yellow Sea Warm Current. The horizontal distribution of phytoplankton was depicted by diatoms and controlled by phosphate concentration, while the vertical distribution was mainly supported by light and nutrients availability in the subsurface and bottom layers, respectively.

Most medical specialties including the field of gastroenterology are mainly aimed at treating diseases rather than preventing them. Genomic medicine studies the health/disease process based on the interaction of the human genes with the environment. The gastrointestinal(GI) system is an ideal model to analyze the interaction between our genes, emotions and the gut microbiota. Based on the current knowledge, this mini-review aims to provide an integrated synopsis of this interaction to achieve a better understanding of the GI disorders related to bad eating habits and stress-related disease. Since human beings are the result of an evolutionary process, many biological processes such as instincts, emotions and behavior are interconnected to guarantee survival. Nourishment is a physiological need triggered by the instinct of survival to satisfy the body's energy demands. The brain-gut axis comprises a tightly connected neuralneuroendocrine circuitry between the hunger-satiety center, the dopaminergic reward system involved in the pleasure of eating and the gut microbiota that regulates which food we eat and emotions. However, genetic variations and the consumption of high-sugar and high-fat diets have overridden this energy/pleasure neurocircuitry to the point of addiction of several foodstuffs. Consequently, a gut dysbiosis generates inflammation and a negative emotional state may lead to chronic diseases. Balancing this altered processes to regain health may involve personalized-medicine and genome-based strategies. Thus, an integrated approach based on the understanding of the gene-emotions-gut microbiota interaction is the next frontier that awaits the gastroenterologist to prevent and treat GI disorders associated with obesity and negative emotions.

Formaldehyde vapour sensing property of electrospun NiO nanograins

Beads free polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)/NiO nanofibers with an average diameter of 400 nm were successfully prepared through the electrospinning *** nanograins were formed along the axis of the nanofiber due to the calcination of asspun fibers for 24 h at 450℃ and their presence was confirmed by *** nanograins were characterized by XRD,XPS and *** characterization results showed the presence of NiO in nanograins and its polycrystalline nature with ionic *** sensing studies of NiO nanograins were performed towards the pulmonary disease breath markers and they showed better response towards formaldehyde vapour at 350℃.Calcined NiO grains showed a good response towards the 11-1145 ppm of formaldehyde vapour at the operating temperature of 350℃.NiO nanograins also showed quick response time(37 s)and recovery time(14 s)towards 46 ppm of formaldehyde.A sensing mechanism was proposed for the formaldehyde vapour interaction at 350℃ with NiO nanograins.

Landscape change provides a suitable framework for investigating population-level responses to novel ecological pressures. However, relatively little attention has been paid to examine the poten- tial influence of landscape change on the geographic scale of population differentiation. Here, we tested for morphological differentiation of red-necked nightjars Caprimulgus ruficollis breeding in a managed property and a natural reserve situated less than 10 km apart. At both sites, we also esti- mated site fidelity over 5 years and quantified the potential foraging opportunities for nightjars. Breeding birds in the managed habitat were significantly larger in size--as indexed by keel length--than those in the natural one. However, there were no significant differences in wing or tail length. Immigration from neighboring areas was almost negligible and, furthermore, no individual （out of 1130 captures overall） exchanged habitats between years, indicating strong site fidelity. Food supply for nightjars was equally abundant in both habitats, but the availability of foraging sites was remarkably higher in the managed property. As a result, nightjars--particularly fledg- lings-in the latter habitat benefited from increased foraging opportunities in relation to those in the natural site. It seems likely that the fine-scale variation in nightjar morphology reflects a pheno- typic response to unequal local conditions, since non-random dispersal or differential mortality had been determined not to be influential. High site fidelity appears to contribute to the mainten- ance of body-size differences between the two habitats. Results from this nightjar population high- light the potential of human-induced landscape change to promote population-level responses at exceedingly small geographic scales.

In plants, vitamin B6 biosynthesis requires the activity of PDX1 and PDX2 proteins. Arabidopsis thaliana encodes for three PDX1 proteins, named PDXI.1, 1.2, and 1.3, but only one PDX2. Here, we show in planta complex assembly of PDX proteins, based on split-YFP and FPLC assays, and can demonstrate their presence in higher complexes of around 750 kDa. Metabolic profiling of plants ectopically expressing the different PDX proteins indicates a negative influence of PDX1.2 on vitamin Be biosynthesis and a correlation between aberrant vitamin B6 content, PDX1 gene expression, and light sensitivity specifically for PDX1.3. These findings provide first insights into in planta vitamin B6 synthase complex assembly and new information on how the different PDX proteins affect plant metabolism.
