Different crop varieties can respond in different ways to the climatic variations at local scale. Thus, in order to maximize the yield for a determined crop, the response of different varieties submitted to local climatic conditions should be assessed. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the ecophysiological responses of two varieties of Quinoa (PRP and BO78) submitted to different conditions of thermal amplitude. We performed two experiments in both greenhouse and in 3 sites on experimental-field where were evaluated survival, photochemical efficiency, plant growth and dry biomass in both varieties and compared them with the mean of the thermal conditions recorded during the last 16 years in the Coquimbo Region, Chile. Overall, individuals of BO78 showed higher performance in the sites with lower thermal amplitude than those of PRP. By contrast, in sites with higher thermal amplitude individuals of PRP showed better survival, physiological performance and biomass and therefore higher performance. Our results suggest that while BO78 showed an ecotypic strategy, the PRP showed a plastic strategy to maintain higher performance in sites with moderate and high climatic variability. We consider that under an increase in desertification, semi-arid areas would be available for stress tolerant crops like Quinoa, but the success for the food security in these regions may depend upon the variety used.

BACKGROUND Thumb replantation following complete traumatic avulsion requires complex techniques to restore function,especially in cases of avulsion at the level of the metacarpophalangeal joint(MCP I)and avulsion of the flexor pollicis longus(FPL)at the musculotendinous *** treatments include direct tendon suture or tendon transfer,most commonly from the ring *** optimize function and avoid donor finger complications,we performed thumb replantation with flexion restoration using brachioradialis(BR)tendon transfer with palmaris longus(PL)tendon *** SUMMARY A 20-year-old left-handed male was admitted for a complete traumatic left thumb amputation following an accident while sliding from the top of a *** patient presented with skin and bone avulsion at the MCP I,avulsion of the FPL tendon at the musculotendinous junction(zone 5),avulsion of the extensor pollicis longus tendon(zone T3),and avulsion of the thumb’s collateral arteries and *** patient was treated with two stage thumb *** first intervention consisted of thumb replantation with MCP I arthrodesis,resection of avulsed FPL tendon and implantation of a silicone tendon *** second intervention consisted of PL tendon graft and BR tendon ***-up at 10 months showed good outcomes with active interphalangeal flexion of 70°,grip strength of 45 kg,key pinch strength of 15 kg and two-point discrimination threshold of 4 *** Flexion restoration after complete thumb amputation with FPL avulsion at the musculotendinous junction can be achieved using BR tendon transfer with PL tendon graft.

In this paper,the influence of ground motion duration on the inelastic displacement ratio,C_(1),of highly damped SDOF systems is *** this purpose,two sets of spectrally equivalent long and short duration ground motion records were used in an analysis to isolate the effects of ground motion duration *** effect of duration was evaluated for observed values of C_(1) by considering six ductility levels,and different damping and post-yield stiffness ratios.A new predictive equation of C_(1) also was developed for long and short duration *** of non-linear regression analysis of the current study provide an expression with which to quantify the duration *** on the average values of estimated C_(1) ratios for long duration records divided by C_(1) for a short duration set,it is concluded that the maximum difference between long and short duration records occurs when the damping ratio is 0.3 and the post-yield stiffness ratio is equal to zero.

Bioaerosols are airborne microorganisms that cause infectious sickness,respiratory and chronic health *** have become a latent threat,particularly in indoor *** is a promising process to inactivate completely bioaerosols from ***,in systems treating a continuous air flow,catalysts can be partially lost in the gaseous *** avoid such phenomenon,supporting materials can be used to fix *** the present work,four photocatalytic systems using Perlite or Poraver glass beads impregnated with ZnO or TiO_(2)were *** inactivation mechanism of bioaerosols and the cytotoxic effect of the catalysts to^bioaeros^ls were *** plug flow photocatalytic reactor treated a bioaerosol flow of 460×10^(6)cells/m^(3)_(air)with a residence time of 5.7 *** Cytometry(FC)was used to quantify and characterize bioaerosols in terms of dead,injured and live *** most efficient system was ZnO/Perlite with 72%inactivation of bioaerosols,maintaining such inactivation during 7.5 h due to the higher water retention capacity of Perlite(2.8 mL/gpcriite)in comparison with Poraver(1.5 mL/gperiite).However,a global balance showed that Ti0_(2)/Poraver system triggered the highest level of cytotoxicity to bioaerosols retained on the support after 96 h with 95%of dead *** and FC analyses showed that the mechanism of inactivation with ZnO was based on membrane damage,morphological cell changes and cell lysis;whereas only membrane damage and cell lysis were involved with Ti0_(2).Overall,results highlighted that photocatalytic technologies can completely inactivate bioaerosols in indoor environments.

The extracellular matrix-associated bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs) govern a plethora of biological processes. The BMPs are members of the transforming growth factor-β protein superfamily, and they actively participate to kidney development, digit and limb formation, angiogenesis, tissue fibrosis and tumor development. Since their discovery, they have attracted attention for their fascinating perspectives in the regenerative medicine and tissue engineering fields. BMPs have been employed in many preclinical and clinical studies exploring their chondrogenic or osteoinductive potential in several animal model defects and in human diseases. During years of research in particular two BMPs, BMP2 and BMP7 have gained the podium for their use in the treatment of various cartilage and bone defects. In particular they have been recently approved for employment in non-union fractures as adjunct therapies. On the other hand, thanks to their potentialities in biomedical applications, there is a growing interest in studying the biology of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC), the rules underneath their differentiation abilities, and to test their true abilities in tissue engineering. In fact, the specific differentiation of MSCs into targeted celltype lineages for transplantation is a primary goal of the regenerative medicine. This review provides an overview on the current knowledge of BMP roles and signaling in MSC biology and differentiation capacities. In particular the article focuses on the potential clinical use of BMPs and MSCs concomitantly, in cartilage and bone tissue repair.

To prevent CO_2 accumulation in the atmosphere generated from scorching of fossil fuels, carbon capture and sequestration(CCS) technology is considered as a potential route to mitigate the emissions of CO_2 from reaching the atmosphere. Power generation from sources such as gas, coal and biomass can fulfill the energy demand more readily than many other sources of electricity production. Thus these sources may be retained as important alternative option in the global energy cycle. In order to curtail CO_2, porous aramid network was fabricated by the condensation of 1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride and 1,3-phenylenediamine in 1,4-dioxane solvent. Aramid was characterized for various analyses including FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET surface area and pore size analysis, FESEM and CO_2 adsorption measurements. Excellent thermal stability was provided by strong amide linkages in the polymer backbone. Optimum CO_2 uptake of aramid was achieved to be 23.14 mg·g^(-1) at 273 K at 0.1 MPa. The basic amide groups of network structure showed greater affinity for CO_*** thermal stability of aramid makes it a promising sorbent for CO_2 capture in adverse conditions.

In this work,a numerical study of the effects of soil-structure interaction(SSI)and granular material-structure interaction(GSI)on the nonlinear response and seismic capacity of flat-bottomed storage silos is conducted.A series of incremental dynamic analyses(IDA)are performed on a case of large reinforced concrete silo using 10 seismic *** IDA results are given by two average IDA capacity curves,which are represented,as well as the seismic capacity of the studied structure,with and without a consideration of the SSI while accounting for the effect of *** curves are used to quantify and evaluate the damage of the studied silo by utilizing two damage indices,one based on dissipated energy and the other on displacement and dissipated *** cumulative energy dissipation curves obtained by the average IDA capacity curves with and without SSI are presented as a function of the base shear,and these curves allow one to obtain the two critical points and the different limit states of the *** is observed that the SSI and GSI significantly influence the seismic response and capacity of the studied structure,particularly at higher levels of ***,the effect of the SSI reduces the damage index of the studied structure by 4%.

A brief morphometric study of the recent planktonic foraminifera in the eastern Indian Ocean was provided with the taxonomic key to species, synonyms, SEM microphotographs of shells and chamber arrays. By recent classification, currently 20 species representing 13 genera and 6 families （Canderinidae, Heterohelicoidae, Hedbergellidae, Higerigerinoidae, Globigerinoidae, and Globorotaloidae） identified from the planktonic material of the eastern Indian Ocean up to a depth of 200 m. Their distribution in water （0-200 m） also reports on the new range of expansion in the eastern Indian Ocean, with Dentigloborotalia anfracta, Hastigerina pelagica, Streptochilus globigerus, Globigerinella calida, Globigerinella adamsi, Orcadia reidelii, Tenuitella parkerae, Tenuitella compressa, reported for the first time in this study area. In general, only around 50 planktonic species are valid worldwide, more specifically the species, e.g., H. pelagica, G. calida, G. adamsi, S. globigerus, O. riedeli, T. parkerae, T. compressa, which occur in the eastern Indian Ocean to fill the the paucity of the recent regional taxonomic literature and the problematic identification from the eastern Indian Ocean. This work aims to bridge this gap and help scientists, managers, educators and students to identify plankton foraminifers by using species notes and images.
