Cloud forests are unusual and fragile habitats, being one of the least studied and least understood ecosystems. The tropical Andean dominion is considered one of the most significant places in the world as regards biological diversity, with a very high level of endemism. The biodiversity was analysed in an isolated remnant area of a tropical montane cloud forest known as the "Bosque de Neblina de Cuyas", in the North of the Peruvian Andean range. Composition, structure and dead wood were measured or estimated. The values obtained were compared with other cloud forests. The study revealed a high level of forest biodiversity, although the level of biodiversity differs from one area to another: in the inner areas, where human pressure is almost inexistent, the biodiversity values increase. The high species richness and the low dominance among species bear testimony to this montane cloud forest as a real enclave of biodiversity.

Background: Tenofovir (TFV) is widely used to treat patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. But kidney abnormalities are the main concern using this drug. Few studies have described the renal impairment due to the TFV in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in sub-saharan Africa. The objective was to evaluate factors associated with renal impairment observed in patients on TFV for CHB. Method: It was a hospital based cross sectional prospective study carried out from June 2023 to July 2023 in Yaoundé (Cameroon) and included any patient treated with TFV for CHB during at least a period of 6 months. For each participant, we collected in the medical report socio-demographic data, clinical data, baseline creatinine, treatment information (type of TFV which was Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) or Alafenamide (TAF), duration). Then, we collected blood samples to measure serum creatinine and phosphate levels and urine dipstick analysis. Factors associated with renal impairment were assessed with the Odds Ratio. A p value of Results: A total of 60 participants were included. The median age was 44 years [36-55] and median duration of TFV therapy was 17.5 months [11.7-25.7]. The prevalence of reduced egFR (Conclusion: Kidney function was impaired in some patients receiving TFV for CHB. It should be monitored, particularly after 36 months and for those receiving TDF prodrug.

In this paper,the influence of ground motion duration on the inelastic displacement ratio,C_(1),of highly damped sDOF systems is *** this purpose,two sets of spectrally equivalent long and short duration ground motion records were used in an analysis to isolate the effects of ground motion duration *** effect of duration was evaluated for observed values of C_(1) by considering six ductility levels,and different damping and post-yield stiffness ratios.A new predictive equation of C_(1) also was developed for long and short duration *** of non-linear regression analysis of the current study provide an expression with which to quantify the duration *** on the average values of estimated C_(1) ratios for long duration records divided by C_(1) for a short duration set,it is concluded that the maximum difference between long and short duration records occurs when the damping ratio is 0.3 and the post-yield stiffness ratio is equal to zero.

Implications of the differences in leaf life span are still subject to debate in the field of *** leaf traits associated with these differences may be decisive for determining the distribution of tree species,this topic is particularly relevant in the context of climate *** study analyzes the effects of the differences in leaf life span on premature losses of leaf area owing to insect herbivory and to abiotic *** of leaf area may be an important determinant of total leaf carbon *** Mediterranean tree species,distributed on four sites with different climates were *** species exhibited strong differences in leaf life span and in leaf traits,especially leaf mass per unit *** leaf area losses were estimated in response to insect herbivory and summer drought over two *** results revealed that,despite having older leaf cohorts with more damage,species with longer leaf duration had lower area lost to herbivores and less damage due to accelerated senescence during the summer *** respect to the predicted increase in water stress,deciduous species are at a disadvantage due to their high premature loss of leaf area and thus loss of photosynthetic capacity.

Bioaerosols are airborne microorganisms that cause infectious sickness,respiratory and chronic health *** have become a latent threat,particularly in indoor *** is a promising process to inactivate completely bioaerosols from ***,in systems treating a continuous air flow,catalysts can be partially lost in the gaseous *** avoid such phenomenon,supporting materials can be used to fix *** the present work,four photocatalytic systems using Perlite or Poraver glass beads impregnated with ZnO or TiO_(2)were *** inactivation mechanism of bioaerosols and the cytotoxic effect of the catalysts to^bioaeros^ls were *** plug flow photocatalytic reactor treated a bioaerosol flow of 460×10^(6)cells/m^(3)_(air)with a residence time of 5.7 *** Cytometry(FC)was used to quantify and characterize bioaerosols in terms of dead,injured and live *** most efficient system was ZnO/Perlite with 72%inactivation of bioaerosols,maintaining such inactivation during 7.5 h due to the higher water retention capacity of Perlite(2.8 mL/gpcriite)in comparison with Poraver(1.5 mL/gperiite).However,a global balance showed that Ti0_(2)/Poraver system triggered the highest level of cytotoxicity to bioaerosols retained on the support after 96 h with 95%of dead *** and FC analyses showed that the mechanism of inactivation with ZnO was based on membrane damage,morphological cell changes and cell lysis;whereas only membrane damage and cell lysis were involved with Ti0_(2).Overall,results highlighted that photocatalytic technologies can completely inactivate bioaerosols in indoor environments.

In a recent study published in Cancer Cell,Bagaev et *** a pan-cancer tumor microenvironment(TME)classification that can be predictive of response to immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)therapy.1 The authors presented a detailed visualization that can be generated for each tumor,which combines the 29 functional gene expression signatures(Fges)used to subtype the TME with targetable genomic *** the compartments and pathways within the TME could aid decision-making in patient-specific treatment of cancer,especially in the context of immunotherapies.2 The increasing use of ICIs have shown promising clinical outcomes in several cancer ***,response to treatment is heterogenous and often results in immune-related adverse events.3 Therefore,efforts are focused on the development of prognostic tools to predict response to *** analysis of 468 melanoma patients resulted in grouping of the TME into four major subsets based on manually curated Fges.

The extracellular matrix-associated bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs) govern a plethora of biological processes. The BMPs are members of the transforming growth factor-β protein superfamily, and they actively participate to kidney development, digit and limb formation, angiogenesis, tissue fibrosis and tumor development. since their discovery, they have attracted attention for their fascinating perspectives in the regenerative medicine and tissue engineering fields. BMPs have been employed in many preclinical and clinical studies exploring their chondrogenic or osteoinductive potential in several animal model defects and in human diseases. During years of research in particular two BMPs, BMP2 and BMP7 have gained the podium for their use in the treatment of various cartilage and bone defects. In particular they have been recently approved for employment in non-union fractures as adjunct therapies. On the other hand, thanks to their potentialities in biomedical applications, there is a growing interest in studying the biology of mesenchymal stem cell(MsC), the rules underneath their differentiation abilities, and to test their true abilities in tissue engineering. In fact, the specific differentiation of MsCs into targeted celltype lineages for transplantation is a primary goal of the regenerative medicine. This review provides an overview on the current knowledge of BMP roles and signaling in MsC biology and differentiation capacities. In particular the article focuses on the potential clinical use of BMPs and MsCs concomitantly, in cartilage and bone tissue repair.
