Cerium-promoted silica supported copper chromite catalyst was synthesized from acid hydrolysis of sodium silicate by sol-gel *** catalyst was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)method,field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),H_(2)-temperature programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR),NH3-temperature programmed desorption(NH3-TPD)and pyridine adsorbed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(Py-FTIR).Among cerium doped catalysts,5 wt%of Ce promoted copper chromite supported by 40 wt%of silica(SiCuCr40-Ce5)shows the largest BET surface *** analysis of the reduced form of the catalyst shows both CeO_(2)/Ce_(2)O_(3) redox system and CuO/Cu_(2)O/Cu redox ***-FTIR shows the maximum number of Lewis acid sites for SiCuCr40-Ce5 than *** highest acetol selectivity with analytical reagent(AR)grade glycerol conversion is observed for SiCuCr40-Ce5 at 200℃for 3 h in a batch reactor at atmospheric *** promotion lowers the reaction te mperature with enhanced glycerol conve rsion and increased acetol *** the above catalyst shows higher conversion for laboratory reagent(LR)grade glycerol but it reduces acetol *** addition of glucose into the LR grade glycerol further reduces glycerol conversion and decreases the acetol selectivity to *** may be due to the presence of iron as impurity in LR grade *** analysis of spent catalyst shows the absence of redox catalytic system and the pore volume reduces identified by BET *** analysis of the spent catalyst shows graphite-like carbon deposition in the spent catalvst.

Double-diffusive stationary and oscillatory instabilities at the marginal state in a saturated porous horizontal fluid layer heated and salted from above are investigated theoretically under the Darcy＇s framework for a porous medium. The contributions of Soret and Dufour coefficients are taken into account in the analysis. Linear stability analysis shows that the critical value of the Darcy-Rayleigh number depends on cross-diffusive parameters at marginally stationary convec- tion, while the marginal state characterized by oscillatory convection does not depend on the cross-diffusion terms even if the condition and frequency of oscillatory convection depends on the cross-diffusive parameters. The critical value of the Darcy-Rayleigh number increases with increasing value of the solutal Darcy-Rayleigh number in the absence of cross- diffusive parameters. The critical Darcy-Rayleigh number decreases with increasing Soret number, resulting in destabiliza- tion of the system, while its value increases with increasing Dufour number, resulting in stabilization of the system at the marginal state characterized by stationary convection. The analysis reveals that the Dufour and Soret parameters as well as the porosity parameter play an important role in deciding the type of instability at the onset. This analysis also indicates that the stationary convection is followed by the oscillatory convection for certain fluid mixtures. It is interesting to note that the roles of cross-diffusive parameters on the double-diffusive system heated and salted from above are reciprocal to the double-diffusive system heated and salted from below.

According to the United Nations Environmental Programme(UNEP),the world loses 1.0×106hm2forest land through deforestation *** 1.6×106people who depend on forests for livelihood are negatively affected by deforestation and forest *** paper attempts to study the impact of forest governance,enforcement and socio-economic factors on deforestation and forest degradation at the local level in West Bengal State,*** study was based on questionnaire survey data during 2020–2021 collected from three western districts(Purulia,Bankura,and Paschim Medinipur)where deforestation and poverty rates are higher than other districts in West Bengal *** total number of selected villages was 29,and the total sample households were 693.A stratified random sampling technique was used to collect data,and a questionnaire was *** governance and enforcement indices were constructed using United Nation Development Programme(UNDP)methodology and a step-wise logistic regression model was used to identify the factors affecting deforestation and forest *** result of this study showed that four factors(illegal logging,weak forest administration,encroachment,and poverty)are identified for the causes of deforestation and forest *** is observed that six indices of forest governance(rule of law,transparency,accountability,participation,inclusiveness and equitability,and efficiency and effectiveness)are relatively high in Purulia ***,this study shows that Purulia and Bankura districts follow medium forest governance,while Paschim Medinipur District has poor forest *** enforcement index is found to be highest in Purulia District(0.717)and lowest for Paschim Medinipur District(0.257).Finally,weak forest governance,poor socio-economic conditions of the households,and weak enforcement lead to the deforestation and forest degradation in the study ***,governments should strengthen law enforcement and encour

Rapid socio-economic changes in some developing countries, including India, are creating new scopes for application of precision agriculture (PA). The implications of dramatic shifts for economic development, urbanization and energy consumption in some developing countries are immense. High-tech nature of traditional PA technologies developed in advanced countries created a real challenge for engineers to search suitable PA technologies for developing countries. It is expected that application of balanced soft and hard PA technologies based on the need of specific socio-economic condition of a country will make PA suitable for developing countries also. ‘Soft’ PA depends mainly on visual observation of crop and soil and management decision based on experience and intuition, rather than on statistical and scientific analysis. ‘Hard’ PA utilizes all modern technologies such as GPS, RS, and VRT. Three components, namely, ‘single PA technology’, ‘PA technology package’ (for the user to select one or combination) and ‘integrated PA technology’, have been identified as a part of adoption strategies of PA in the developing countries. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to find out the scope, the present status and the strategies for adoption of PA in India and in some developing countries. Application of PA in cash crop, plantation crop, etc. has been discussed. Application of some medium and low-tech PA tools such as chlorophyll meter and leaf colour chart. in small farms has been included. This exhaustive review of the present status of PA in India and in some developing countries is expected to help to find out the adoption trend and direction of future research. Detailed strategy for the adoption of PA in India has also been proposed.

Microorganisms represent a substantial portion of the earth’s biodiversity and biomass, and the plant rhizosphere is an innate reservoir teeming with heterogeneous microbes predominated by bacterial communities. Rhizospheric microbial diversity (genetic, phenotypic, and metabolic) has been extensively studied to understand the key ecological roles played by the microbial members, including plant growth promotion. The application of 16S rRNA gene sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has revolutionized the discovery of novel bacterial groups that have remained undetected by traditional cultivation-based approaches. Such technological advancements have opened new vistas in our current understanding of predominant but concealed and missed bacterial diversity referred to as difficult-to-culture bacterial lineages, especially the predominant phyla Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia,Planctomycetes, and Gemmatimonadetes. Regardless of their ubiquity and prevalence, little is known about their ecophysiology because of the non-availability of culturable members. More recently, there has been increased interest in understanding the cosmopolitan distribution and diversity of the difficult-to-culture bacteria, focusing on their role in driving complex plant-microbial interactions and mobilizing nutrients in soil and their potential as sources of novel bioactive metabolites. As an initial step, we review the distribution and significance of such bacterial phyla in soil, their ecophysiological roles, and their hidden plant growth promoting potential. The ability to select and deploy plant probiotic bacteria from the difficult-to-culture fraction of the bacterial community might open new avenues for improving crop health.

Fused ternary CaF_(2)–SiO_(2)–MnO fluxes have been manufactured and applied to join EH36 shipbuilding steel under high heat input submerged arc *** fluxes have been designed to clarify the effect of MnO content in CaF_(2)–SiO_(2)–MnO flux on the impact toughness of the weld metal,with the added amount of MnO from 10 to 50 wt.%at the expense of CaF_(2).With the increase in MnO content,the Charpy impact energy increases first and then decreases,experiencing a maximum value at 30 wt.%*** of the weld metals has also been studied to account for impact toughness *** has been demonstrated that the highest acicular ferrite volume fraction in the weld metal is achieved at 30 wt.%MnO,which is concurrent to the maximum value of Charpy impact *** is believed that the Mn and O content variations in the weld metal contribute synergistically to such an interesting phenomenon.

In recent years, seasonal blooms of the dinoflagellate Noctiluca miliaris have appeared in the open-waters of the northern Arabian Sea （NAS）. This study provides the first characterization of bacteria from a seasonal bloom of green Noctiluca ofNAS （20°N-17°N and 64°E-70°E）, during the spring-inter-monsoon cruise ofSagar Sampada 253, in March 2007. Bacterial growth as assessed by most-probable number （MPN） and plate counts, revealed ＇variable-physiotypes＇ over a wide range of salinities （0%-25% w/v NaC1）, pH levels （5-8.5）, and organic nutrient strengths, in comparison to non-bloom waters. MPN indices of bacteria in surface waters of bloom stations ＊DWK and ＊PRB, corresponded to （3.08-4.41）×103 cells/mL at 3.5% NaC1 （w/v）, and （2.82-9.49）× 102 cells/mL at 25% （w/v） NaC1 in tryptone-yeast extract broth （TYE）. Plate counts were （1.12-4） × 106 CFU/mL at 0% （w/v） NaC1, （1.28-3.9） × 106 CFU/mL at 3.5% （w/v） NaC1, and （0.4- 7）×104 CFU/mL at 25% NaC1 （w/v） on TYE. One-tenth-strength Zobell＇s gave （0.6-3.74）× 105 CFU/mL at pH 5 to （3.58-7.5）× 105 CFU/mL at pH 8.5. These bacteria were identified to the genera Bacillus, Cellulomonas, Staphylococcus, Planococcus, Dietzia, Diergibacillus, Micrococcus, Sporosarcinae, Leucobacter, and Halomonas. The identity of three strains （GUFBSS253N2, GUFBSS253N30, and GUFBSS253N84） was confirmed through 16S rDNA sequence homology as Bacillus cohnii, Bacillusflexus, and Bacillus cereus. The -2-3-fold higher plate counts of culturable bacteria from the open-waters of the NAS indicate that these bacteria could critically determine the biogeochemical dynamics of the bloom and its milieu. The role of these bacteria in sustaining/terminating the bloom is under evaluation.

Electrochemical oxidation of polyethylene glycol(PEG) in an acidic(pH 0.18 to 0.42) and high ionic strength electroplating solution was investigated. The electroplating solution is a major source of wastewater in the printing wiring board industry. A paraffin composite copper hexacyanoferrate modified(PCCHM) electrode was used as the anode and a bare graphite electrode was used as the cathode. The changes in PEG and total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations during the course of the reaction were monitored. The efficiency of the PCCHM anode was compared with bare graphite anode and it was found that the former showed significant electrocatalytic property for PEG and TOC removal. Chlorides present in the solution were found to contribute significantly in the overall organic removal process. Short chain organic compounds like acetic acid, oxalic acid, formic acid and ethylene glycol formed during electrolysis were identified by HPLC method. Anode surface area and applied current density were found to influence the electro-oxidation process, in which the former was found to be dominating. Investigations of the kinetics for the present electrochemical reaction suggested that the two stage first-order kinetic model provides a much better representation of the overall mechanism of the process if compared to the generalized kinetic model.
