Located in the North-West of the African continent, the Moroccan Middle Atlas constitutes an intra-continental chain within the Atlas domain. It is known by several global geological events such as the Paleocene-Eocene crisis during the Paleogene, which corresponds to one of the hottest periods on earth with Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum (PETM). A taxonomic study carried out on the carbonate deposits of the Bekrit-Timahdite Formation from three sections of the Bekrit syncline allowed the identification of 5 species of the Cheilostome and Cyclostome Bryozoans (Cellaria rigida, Cellaria sinuosa, Aimulosia lamellosa, Heteropora and Osthimosia) in bioclastic limestones, nodular limestones, marly and sandy limestones. The interest of Bryozoans as indicators of paleoenvironments and paleoclimates was assessed by examining current communities, in terms of depth evolution as richness and abundance, distribution of taxonomic categories zoarium types, and zooidal morphology. The depositional environment analysis of Bryozoans showed a shallow marine carbonate platform with low sedimentation energy where is registered a relatively warm paleoclimate.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main pathogenic agents responsible for nosocomial and community-acquired bacterial infections. The pathogenicity of this Gram-positive bacterium is ensured by its different adhesion factors. Collagen and the extracellular glycoprotein adhesin are among the Staphylococcus most important virulence factors. It has been shown that most of the S. aureus strains carry the ica operon, responsible for biofilm production. However, the coexpression of the icaA and the icaD genes is necessary for complete biofilm synthesis. The aim of our study was to study a collection of 15 clinical strains of S. aureus from different sources for the presence of can and icaD genes coding intercellular adhesion proteins. We also intended to estimate the strains’ ability to form biofilms by the red Cong method and to test the adhesion ability of S. aureus to the ciliated protist Tetrahymena pyriformis, which we used as a novel cellular adhesion model. Finally, we checked the adhesion’s inhibition capacity of some plants extracts. The molecular detection of adhesion genes revealed that 80% of strains are cna positive, and 73% are icaD positive. Qualitative biofilm production of S. aureus revealed that 66.6% of strains were slime producers. The adhesion test revealed that 20% of strains are strongly adhering to T. pyriformis and that the Clematis cirrhosa extract has an anti-adhering effect of S. aureus to the ciliate T. pyriformis.

Exceptional Association of a Cerebral Sinus Thrombosis and a Guillain-Barre Syndrome: A New Case Report and Review of the Literature

Background: The association of Guillain-Barre syndrome and cerebral sinus thrombosis is uncommon. Case Presentation: We report a 37-year-old patient hospitalized in medical ICU for respiratory distress following a Guillain-Barre syndrome. He had symptomatic treatment in addition to plasma exchange. In the presence of clonic movements, a brain venography magnetic resonance showed a thrombophlebitis of the left lateral sinus, and hence a low-molecular-weight heparin treatment was begun. Immunological, thrombophilia and serological tests were negative. After a favorable evolution, he was transferred to the neurology department. Conclusion: The combination of a Guillain-Barre syndrome and a cerebral sinus thrombosis would suggest a common process. A rigorous investigation, including the use of imaging, is necessary in front of any unusual clinical sign during a GBS.

Dunbar Syndrome and Hypoxic Hepatitis: An Unusual Presentation

Hypoxic hepatitis, also known as ischemic hepatitis, is characterized by acute hepatocellular injury due to inadequate oxygen delivery to the liver. Celiac trunk stenosis can lead to hepatic ischemia and subsequent liver damage. We present the case of an 81-year-old patient with a history of hypertension, ischemic heart disease, hypothyroidism, and biliary lithiasis, who developed hypoxic hepatitis secondary to Dunbar syndrome and a stenosis of the superior mesenteric artery. The patient improved symptoms and liver function tests with conservative management, including intravenous fluids and supportive care. Long-term management involved continued antiplatelet therapy and statins, with consideration of further interventions for celiac trunk stenosis. This case underscores the importance of recognizing Dunbar syndrome as well as superior mesentery trunk stenosis as a potential cause of hypoxic hepatitis. It highlights the need for multidisciplinary management in such cases.

Adult Posterior Cranial Fossa Arachnoid Cyst: A Case Report

Adult posterior fossa arachnoid cysts are rare lesions that are considered to be mostly congenital in origin. We present 49-year-old man admitted with a chief complaint of tremor and balance problems for the past 2 months. He had ataxia on examination. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well circumscribed midline cystic lesion of the posterior fossa sharing the same signal characteristics as cerebrospinal fluid and non-communicating to the fourth ventricle. He underwent surgical treatment for his symptomatic posterior fossa arachnoid cyst with a good outcome at 2 years follow up.

Wheat ranks first among cereal crops cultivated in the world. In its production, diseases like powdery mildew, fusarium head blight and rusts caused by fungal pathogens represent a major problem. They produce different symptoms that cause severe crop damage by infecting the spikes, leaves, roots, stems and grains. They are causing losses both by reducing the quantity of the harvested crop and the quality of the product. Quality problems of the harvested product can be due to shrivelled seed, which are frequently found as a consequence of the infection by leaf pathogens, such as mildews, rusts and Septoria. Fusarium head blight is the major culprit for mycotoxin contamination from the harvested grain, causing economic losses and in the worst casing human and animal health problems. In severe epidemics, all these fungal diseases can significantly reduce yield. Resistance to fungi is beneficial not only from a commercial point of view （yield）, but also because of the reduced levels of mycotoxins. The integration of transgenic approaches offers a potential chemical-free and environment-friendly solution for controlling fungal pathogens. This is an essential asset for wheat world food security.

A Pediatric Case of Tuberculous Osteomyelitis of the Mandible Mimicking a Bony Malignant Tumor

Background: Tuberculosis is a granulomatous infectious disease which is still being a real health problem in developing countries. Mainly, this specific infection affects pulmonary sites, but, the occurrence in extra-pulmonary sites is more and more reported. However, when extra-pulmonary tuberculosis affects the cervico-facial region, the cervical lymph nodes are the most involved. Aim: Throughout this case report, we put emphasis on keeping in mind of the possible tuberculous infection in a chronic lesion of mandible in children. Case presentation: In this article, we present a case of a 2-year-old child who was complaining of swelling of the right angle of the mandible. The computed tomography showed an osteolytic lesion suggesting tuberculous osteomyelitis but didn’t rule out a bony malignant neoplasm of the mandible. The histological examination of biopsy of the lesion proved the tuberculous osteomyelitis of the mandible. The child has received anti-tubercular therapy for 9 months, and she marked a good recovery. The Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene of Phosphate Clays of the Ouled Bou Sbaa Deposit: Mineralogy, Geochemistry, and Beneficiation (Meskala, Morocco)

This work aims first to characterize the Maastrichtian and Paleogene clays of the Ouled Bou Sbaa phosphate deposit located in the northern part of the Meskala Basin;and as a second goal, the most efficient clay fractions are tested and identified for organic dyes removal. Several techniques and methods have been adopted for the characterization of clays: X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Tests for the removal of methylene blue from clays were carried out by adsorption. The XRD study shows that the clays of the Ouled Bou Sbaa deposit contain fibrous clay types of palygorskite and sepiolite, and phyllite clays such as montmorillonite and illite. Stratigraphically, the Maastrichtian sample yielded, mainly aluminous clays dominated by montmorillonites, while in the Paleogene clays, the palygorskite-types clays, also rich in magnesium, are more common. The results of FTIR, XRF and SEM analyses confirm the mineralogical data, respectively, by the presence of characteristic bands and the dominance of oxides of silica, aluminum, magnesium, and the large dominance of palygorskite which is presented in the form of bundles or platelets of long fibers and montmorillonite which is presented in the form of a stack of sheets. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on these clays showed very fast fixation kinetics and a very efficient purifying power for this organic pollutant. The equilibrium isotherms were determined using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Elovich models. The results show that the Freundlich isotherm had better agreement with the methylene blue on clay with a correlation coefficient of 0.959.

Infectious bursal disease(IBD)is an important contagious viral infection of immune system of *** infection possesses a permanent threat to the profitability of poultry industry *** aim of this work was to modify the Taq Man-MGB real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(rRT-PCR)in one step involving two fluorogenic Taq Man labeled probe and using this protocol for detection of infectious bursal disease virus(IBDV)collected from suspected cases distributed in different regions of the country during the period *** intralaboratory validation of modified method was realized for specificity,linearity,repeatability,sensitivity and *** allowed reducing the test running time by six *** method was applied on 102 pools of bursa of fabricius(BF)samples collected from affected broiler farms suspected to be infected by *** showing macroscopic lesions including muscle petechial hemorrhages,hypertrophy and hemorrhage of BF,were subjected to molecular analysis using modified protocol“Taq Man-MGB rRT-PCR”.The validation satisfied all criteria and the assay developed could be a useful tool for a very rapid diagnosis of IBDV and permit to detect and to discriminate in one-step very virulent(vv)from non-vv(classic and variant)IBDV *** of 84 IBDV positive samples,a prevalence of 39%for vv strains and 61%for classical strains was *** results indicate that despite the vaccination against IBDV,the vv form of this pathologie continues to cause serious problems for Moroccan broiler *** obtained results indicate the successfully detection of IBDV and differentiated all vvIBDV strains from non-vvIBDV strains;Avian infectious agent RNA viruses tested are negative,demonstrating great specificity of the *** results obtained indicate that this method is suitable as a routine laboratory test for the rapid detection and differentiation of IBDV strains in samples of avian origin.
