An update–tissue engineered nerve grafts for the repair of peripheral nerve injuries

Peripheral nerve injuries（PNI） are caused by a range of etiologies and result in a broad spectrum of disability. While nerve autografts are the current gold standard for the reconstruction of extensive nerve damage, the limited supply of autologous nerve and complications associated with harvesting nerve from a second surgical site has driven groups from multiple disciplines, including biomedical engineering, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedic surgery, to develop a suitable or superior alternative to autografting. Over the last couple of decades, various types of scaffolds, such as acellular nerve grafts（ANGs）, nerve guidance conduits, and non-nervous tissues, have been filled with Schwann cells, stem cells, and/or neurotrophic factors to develop tissue engineered nerve grafts（TENGs）. Although these have shown promising effects on peripheral nerve regeneration in experimental models, the autograft has remained the gold standard for large nerve gaps. This review provides a discussion of recent advances in the development of TENGs and their efficacy in experimental models. Specifically, TENGs have been enhanced via incorporation of genetically engineered cells, methods to improve stem cell survival and differentiation, optimized delivery of neurotrophic factors via drug delivery systems（DDS）, co-administration of platelet-rich plasma（PrP）, and pretreatment with chondroitinase ABC（Ch-ABC）. Other notable advancements include conduits that have been bioengineered to mimic native nerve structure via cell-derived extracellular matrix（ECM） deposition, and the development of transplantable living nervous tissue constructs from rat and human dorsal root ganglia（DrG） neurons. Grafts composed of non-nervous tissues, such as vein, artery, and muscle, will be briefly discussed.

Design and development of a machine vision system using artificial neural network-based algorithm for automated coal characterization

Coal is heterogeneous in nature,and thus the characterization of coal is essential before its use for a specific ***,the current study aims to develop a machine vision system for automated coal *** model was calibrated using 80 image samples that are captured for different coal samples in different *** the images were captured in rGB color space and converted into five other color spaces(HSI,CMYK,Lab,xyz,Gray)for feature *** intensity component image of HSI color space was further transformed into four frequency components(discrete cosine transform,discrete wavelet transform,discrete Fourier transform,and Gabor filter)for the texture features extraction.A total of 280 image features was extracted and optimized using a step-wise linear regression-based algorithm for model *** datasets of the optimized features were used as an input for the model,and their respective coal characteristics(analyzed in the laboratory)were used as outputs of the *** r-squared values were found to be 0.89,0.92,0.92,and 0.84,respectively,for fixed carbon,ash content,volatile matter,and moisture *** performance of the proposed artificial neural network model was also compared with the performances of performances of Gaussian process regression,support vector regression,and radial basis neural network *** study demonstrates the potential of the machine vision system in automated coal characterization.

A simple, inexpensive and efficient one-pot synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines has been accomplished via lithium bromide-catalyzed Hantzsch three-component condensation reaction of an aldehyde, α,β-ketoester and ammonium acetate in acetonitrile at room temperature in good to excellent yields. The present protocol is applicable to wide range of substrates including aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes affording 1,4-dihydropyridines.

Synthesis of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Mn(II) Complexes with Ciprofloxacin and Their Evaluation of Antimicrobial, Antioxidant and Anti-Tubercular Activity

Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II) complexes synthesized by reflux of 6-bromo-3-(3-(4-chlorophenyl)acryloyl)-2H- chromen-2-one, Ciprofloxacin and various transition metal. 1H, 13C, Ir and ESI Mass confirm the formation of ligand. The metal complexes were characterized on the basis of various spectroscopic techniques like Ir studies and elemental analysis while the geometry of complexes was octahedral which is confirmed by electronic spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. The compounds were subjected to antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-tubercular activity screening using serial broth dilution method and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is determined. Mn(II) complex has shown significant antifungal activity with an MIC of 6.25 μg/ml while Cu(II) complex is noticeable for antibacterial activity at the same concentration. Anti-TB activity of the ligand has enhanced on complexation with Ni(II) and Co(II) ions. While Ni(II) complex shows superior antioxidant activity than other complexes.

robot-assisted endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy:A review of current outcomes

Objective:To review the role of robot-assisted endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy(rAIL)in the management of penile ***:A PubMed search for all relevant publications regarding rAIL series up until August 2019 was performed using the keyword“robotic”,“inguinal lymph node dissection”,and“penile cancer”.Weighted mean was calculated in the largest series for all outcomes using the number of patients included in each study as the weighting ***:We identified 23 articles,of note the three largest series that included 102,27,and 20 rAIL in 51,14,and 10 patients,*** vein was spared in 88.93%of rAIL cases in these series and node yield was 11.42 per groin;35.28%of patients had positive pathological *** weighted mean of operative time was 87.98 min per rAIL and the estimated blood loss was 37.08 mL per *** mean length of hospital stay was 1.29 days and the drain was kept in place for 17.02 days;the major complication rate was only 5.31%in these *** mean follow-up was 33.46 months with a recurrence-free survival of 96.33%.Conclusion:The literature regarding rAIL describes promising results,although it has shorter follow-up and higher costs when compared to historically series from the open *** series reported lower cutaneous complications compared to conventional approach,without compromising oncological ***,long-term results and larger trials are crucial to validate those findings.

Management of pancreaticobiliary disease using a new intra-ductal endoscope:The Texas experience

AIM:To evaluate a new single-operator mini-endoscope, Spyglass,for its performance,feasibility and safety in the management of pancreaticobiliary disease. METHODS:In a multicenter retrospective analysis of patients undergoing intraductal endoscopy,we evaluated 128 patients(71 men,mean age 57.6 years).Indications were therapeutic(TX)in 72(56%) and diagnostic(DX)in 56(44%). rESULTS:Peroral endoscopy was performed in 121 and percutaneous in *** indications included CBD stones in 41,PD stones in six,and biliary strictures in *** indications included abnormal LFT’s in 15, abnormal imaging in 38 and cholangiocarcinoma staging in *** of the stone(s)was considered good in 31,fair in six,and poor in four. Advancement of the electrohydraulic lithotripsy probe was not possible in three patients and proper targeting of the lesion was partial in four patients.A holmium laser was used successfully in three *** clearance was achieved in 37 patients after one procedure and in four patients after two *** of biliary strictures was modified in 20/29 and confirmed to be malignant in 10/*** the modified patients,no diagnosis was available in *** demonstrated malignancy in 8/17 and non-malignancy in *** pathology by imaging studies and abnormal LFT’s was modified in 43/63(66%).Staging of cholangiocarcinoma demonstrated multicentric cholangiocarcinoma in 2/*** was no morbidity associated with the use of Spyglass. CONCLUSION:Spyglass Spyscopeis a first generation, single operator miniature endoscope that can evaluate and treat various biliary and pancreatic tract diseases.

Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method for simultaneous determination of albendazole and albendazole sulfoxide in human plasma for bioequivalence studies

An improved high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry（LC-MS/MS） method has been developed for sensitive and rapid determination of albendazole（ABZ） and its active metabolite,albendazole sulfoxide（ABZSO）,in the positive ionization *** method utilized solid phase extraction（SPE） for sample preparation of the analytes and their deuterated internal standards（ISs） from100 μL human *** chromatography was carried out on Hypurity C_（18） column using acetonitrile-2.0 mM ammonium acetate,pH 5.0（80：20,v/v） as the mobile *** assay exhibited a linear response over the concentration range of 0.200-50.0 ng/mL for ABZ and 3.00-600 ng/mL for *** recoveries of the analytes and ISs ranged from 86.03%-89.66%and 89.85%-98.94%,*** effect,expressed as IS-normalized matrix factors,ranged from 0.985 to 1.042 for the both *** method was successfully applied for two separate studies in healthy subjects using single dose of 400 mg conventional tablets and 400 mg chewable ABZ tablets,respectively.

Novel Therapeutic Options for the Treatment of Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation

Objective: To review the literature for the emerging oral anticoagulants, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and apixaban currently available in the United States. Data Source: A literature review was performed in MEDLINE (1947–July 2014) using the keywords atrial fibrillation AND dabigatran Or rivaroxaban Or apixaban. The references identified from the literature review were then evaluated. All of the literature retrieved from MEDLINE that was published as an original clinical trial was included in this review. Other pertinent articles published related to the original clinical trials were also considered. The references included in this review were limited to studies conducted in humans and written in the English language. Conclusion: The new oral anticoagulant agents have demonstrated benefit over warfarin. The pharmacologic profiles of the newer agents are predictable, with rapid onsets of action. The newer agents are also more convenient for patients since they do not require regular INr monitoring. Although there are many advantages to the newer agents, a patient evaluation must be considered prior to initiating them.
