In recent years,sandwich-type rare earth tetrapyrrole derivatives,have attracted more and more attention as material for conductimetric *** have not only great chemical stability and processability,but also flexible molecular structure,which is a key to adjustable semiconductor *** this mini review,we focus mainly on the development of tetrapyrrolato-rare earth sandwich-type complexes as the semiconducting active layer in the gas sensors published in the last ten years(2010-2020).The main part includes two *** the single component gas sensing of sandwich rare earth tetrapyrrole complexes,we describe the influence factors of the single-component semiconducting active layer on the sensing performance of tetrapyrrolato-rare earth sandwich-type complexes,including substituents,central metals and π-conjugate *** the multi-component gas sensors,the synergistic effect between tetrapyrrolato-rare earth sandwich-type complex and other materials on improving sensitivity and conductivity has been discussed briefly.

Photocatalyzed organic transformations have spurred immense interest in synthetic chemistry for the efficient conversion of solar energy into chemical ***,the crucial roles of support,which fixes catalytic sites and improves the light-harvesting ability,are often ignored in photoredox ***,we report the utilization of spherical SiO2 support to engineer AuPd alloy particles(denoted as AuPd/SiO2),conceptually different from traditional methods for tuning optical absorption of plasmonic Au or AuPd particles,to manipulate light-harvesting ability of AuPd particles for highly selective and efficient photocatalytic Suzuki cross-coupling *** this deliberately designed system,typically without the size and shape alternation of AuPd particles,the supported AuPd particles recycle the scattering light from spherical SiO2 support and achieve the significant broad light-harvesting ability instead of the surface plasmon resonance *** engineered AuPd/SiO2 composites by the use of near-field scattering-promoted optical absorption showcase the remarkably enhanced activity for visible-light-induced photocatalytic Suzuki cross-coupling reactions in comparison with that using commercial SiO2 support,highlighting the spherical-support-effect induced efficient utilization of scattered *** work highlights the feasibility of manipulating the light-harvesting capability of bimetallic particles by the near-field scattering-promoted optical absorption model toward efficient photo-driven Suzuki cross-coupling reaction and other C-C coupling organic synthesis to produce high value-added chemicals.

Plasma-induced Mo-doped Co_(3)O_(4)with enriched oxygen vacancies for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution in water splitting

Heteroatomic substitution and vacancy engineering of spinel oxides can theoretically optimize the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)through charge redistribution and d-band center modification but still remain a great challenge in both the preparation and catalytic ***,we proposed a novel and efficient Ar-plasma(P)-assisted strategy to construct heteroatom Mo-substituted and oxygen vacancies enriched hierarchical spinel Co_(3)O_(4)porous nanoneedle arrays in situ grown on carbon cloth(denoted P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC)to improve the OER ***-plasma technology can efficiently generate vacancy sites at the surface of hydroxide,which induces the anchoring of Mo anion salts through electrostatic interaction,finally facilitating the substitution of Mo atoms and the formation of oxygen vacancies on the Co_(3)O_(4)*** P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC affords a low overpotential of only 276 mV at 10 mA cm^(−2)for the OER,which is 58 mV superior to that of Mo-free Co_(3)O_(4)@CC and surpasses commercial RuO_(2)*** robust stability and satisfactory selectivity(nearly 100%Faradic efficiency)of P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC for the OER are also ***-cal studies demonstrate that Mo with variable valance states can efficiently regulates the atomic ratio of Co^(3+)/Co^(2+)and increases the number of oxygen vacancies,thereby inducing charge redistribution and tuning the d-band center of Co_(3)O_(4),which improve the adsorption energy of oxygen intermediates(e.g.,*OOH)on P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC during ***,the two-electrode OER//HER electrolyzer equipped with P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC as anode displays a low operation potential of 1.54 V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm^(−2),and also exhibits good reversibility and anticurrent fluctuation ability under simulated real energy supply conditions,demonstrating the great potential of P-Mo-Co_(3)O_(4)@CC in water electrolysis.

The China Spallation Neutron Source （CSNS） is a large scientific facility with the main purpose of serving multidisciplinary research on material characterization using neutron scattering techniques. The accelerator system is to provide a proton beam of 120 kW with a repetition rate of 25 Hz initially （CSNSⅠ）, progressively upgradeable to 240 kW （CSNS-Ⅱ） and 500 kW （CSNS-Ⅱ＇）. In addition to serving as a driving source for the spallation target, the proton beam can be exploited for serving additional functions both in fundamental and applied research. The expanded scientific application based on pulsed muons and fast neutrons is especially attractive in the overall consideration of CSNS upgrade options. A second target station that houses a muon-generating target and a fast-neutron-generating target in tandem, intercepting and removing a small part of the proton beam for the spallation target, is proposed. The muon and white neutron sources are operated principally in parasitic mode, leaving the main part of the beam directed to the spallation target. However, it is also possible to deliver the proton beam to the second target station in a dedicated mode for some special applications. Within the dual target configuration, the thin muon target placed upstream of the fast-neutron target will consume only about 5% of the beam traversed; the majority of the beam is used for fast-neutron production. A proton beam with a beam power of about 60 kW, an energy of 1.6 GeV and a repetition rate of 12.5 Hz will make the muon source and the white neutron source very attractive to multidisciplinary researchers.

Overoxidized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-overoxidized polypyrrole composite films with enhanced electrocatalytic ability for rutin and luteolin determination

In this study, a simple and effective method was proposed to improve the electrocatalytic ability of overoxidized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-overoxidized polypyrrole composite films modified on glassy carbon electrode for rutin and luteolin determination. The composite electrode was prepared by cyclic voltammetry copolymerization with LiClO_(4)-water as the supporting electrolyte. The peak current of rutin and luteolin on the composite electrode gradually decreased or even disappeared with the increase in the positive potential limit. After incubation in NaOH–ethanol solution with a volume ratio of 1:1, the composite electrodes prepared at positive potential limit greater than 1.5 V exhibited enhanced differential pulse voltammetry peak currents, reduced charge transfer resistance, larger effective specific surface area and higher electron transfer rate constant. The composite electrode prepared in the potential range of 0–1.7 V showed optimal electrocatalytic performance. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results indicated that the content of –SO_(2)/–SO and –C=N– groups in the composite film increased significantly after incubation. Further, the Raman spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectra revealed that the thiophene ring structure changed from benzene-type to quinone-type, and the quinone-type pyrrole ring was formed. The electrocatalytic mechanism of the composite film was proposed based on the experimental results and further verified by Density Functional Theory calculation.

Highway icing time prediction with deep learning approaches based on data from road sensors

In harsh climates,highway icing poses a hazard to traffic safety and increases road maintenance *** is of great significance to predict when the highway icing may occur and take a preventive ***,there are few studies on highway icing time prediction due to the scarcity and complexity of *** this study,variables of icing temperature,friction,ice percentage,road surface temperature,water film height,saline concentration,and road condition were collected by road sensors distributed on a highway in China.A large-scale time series highway surface information dataset called HighwayIce is ***,a deep learning approach called IceAlarm,composed of long short-term memory neural network(LSTM),multilayer perceptron(MLP),and residual connection,has been developed to predict when the highway will *** LSTM is used to process dynamic variables,the MLP is used to process static variables,and the fully-connected layers with residual connections are used to make a deep *** experimental results show that the average mean absolute error before icing using the IceAlarm model is about 6min and outperforms all baseline *** HighwayIce dataset and IceAlarm model can help improve the prediction accuracy and efficiency of forecasting real-world road icing time,therefore reducing the impact of icy road conditions on traffic.

Experimental Investigations on Thermal Transport Properties of Nanoscale-Graphite-Film

Accurately and directly characterizing the thermal properties of graphene and thin-graphite films(GFs)is of fundamental importance for understanding the heat transport mechanism and of practical interest in possible applications of thermal ***,due to the lack of experiment data,the mechanism of the thickness dependence of GFs thermal properties has not been fully understood *** this study,a 90-nm-thick GF is characterized by the time-domain thermoreflectance method,and the obtained GFs in-plane thermal conductivity and interfacial thermal conductance between GFs and gold are(1354±297)W/(m·K)and(38±6)MW/(m^(2)·K),*** theoretical models are also applied for comparison and discussion,and we conclude that the influence from the surface perturbation by supporting materials on the phonon transport of graphite nano-films will beyond the near surface layers to the more inner *** work not only provides a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of the thermal transport size effect in GFs,but also facilitates the possible applications of GFs as heat spreaders in the future.
