Spatio-temporal variation of zooplankton community structure in tropical urban waterbodies along trophic and urban gradients

The ecological impacts of urbanization and eutrophication on zooplankton communities in urban waterbodies have recently gained wide *** findings vary across species and urban *** the development of such changes affects the variation of biotic assemblages has only been explored to a limited extent in tropical urban *** and temporal variations of zooplankton community structure in 11 urban waterbodies in the Klang Valley,Malaysia were investigated along trophic and urbanization *** and water quality samples were collected three times,between May and November 2017,from two different locations in each *** three main zooplankton groups(rotifera,copepoda,and cladocera)were recorded from the study areas throughout the sampling *** zooplankton community structure,particularly with regard to rotifers and cladocerans,varied between lakes and *** diversity does not vary with lake size or distance from the city center but does vary with shoreline development index and urbanization *** zooplankton populations were dominated by rotifers,mainly Brachionus angularis at all study sites during the study period followed by copepods and *** total density of zooplankton was significantly highest(p<0.05)in the hypereutrophic lakes and during the dry *** diversity and rotifer species richness were negatively correlated with total phosphorus(TP).Diversity increased with urbanization and shoreline development,with rotifers as a potential bioindicator of trophic state in urban tropical lakes,due to their close relationship with TP.

Effect of quarry dust addition on the performance of controlled low-strength material made from industrial waste incineration bottom ash

The performance of industrial waste incineration bottom ash in controlled low-strength material （CLSM） was investigated in this paper, as the quarry dust was added. CLSM mixtures were made from the industrial waste incineration bottom ash, quarry dust, and cement. Tests for fresh density, bleeding, compressive strength, shear strength, hydraulic conductivity, and excavatability were carried out. The com- pressive strength ranges from 60 kPa to 6790 kPa, the friction angle varies from 5°to 19°, and the cohesion is from 4 to 604 kPa. Most of the mixtures are found to be non-excavatable. It is indicated that the quarry dust addition increases the compressive strength and shear parame- ters, decreases bleeding, and increases the removability modulus.

Structural Restoration of Carbonate Platform in the Southern Part of Central Luconia, Malaysia

Carbonates of Central Luconia, Malaysia, had been serving as hydrocarbon reservoirs for more than 25 years. However, the relationship and impacts of extensive tectonic events to the growth of Miocene carbonates in Central Luconia have not been revealed sufficiently. In this work, two carbonates platforms in the southern part of Central Luconia were used for detailed interpretation and seismic based structural restoration. This work had provided new insight for the interpreta- tion of carbonate growth in Central Luconia and its association with the surrounding tectonic. This work suggested three possible tectonic evolutions from Late Oligocene to Pliocene are responsible for the growth of carbonates in Central Luconia. These stages are equivalent with pre-carbonate stage （Late Oligocene-Early Miocene）, syn-carbonate stage （Middle-Late Miocene） and post-carbonate stage （Pliocene）. Rifting of the South China Sea and subduction of proto-South China Sea are believed to be responsible for the development of faulting during pre-carbonate stage, while movement of the ancient Baram Line is thought to control the parallel striking direction of normal faults during syn- carbonate stage. Finally, subsidence and compaction due to the overburden clastic materials from the prograding deltas is considered as the main reason for the impacts of gravitational tectonics in this area, which corresponding to the post-carbonate stage.

Tuberculosis:an experience from Mycobacterium smears and culture analysis

Objective:Simple tests like direct smear of the acid fast bacilli(AFB) and Mycobacterium culture could assist the diagnosis of *** study is aimed at reviewing the outcome of smears,culture results and contamination rate among specimens requested for AFB smear and Mycobacterium ***:Retrospective laboratory data analysis requesting for Mycobacterium culture from January 2005 till December 2006 was done in a tertiary teaching hospital of Universiti Sains Malaysia,Kubang Kerian,Kelantan,***: Four hundred and sixty seven(36.6%) isolates grew from 1 277 *** these isolates,314 (67.2%) grew Mycobacterium tuberculosis,23(4.9%) grew Mycobacterium other than tuberculosis and 38 (8.1%) grew *** the *** cultures,165(52.5%) had growth of more than 100 confluent colonies,whereas 39 cultures(12.4%) had growth of less than 19 *** smear for AFB among smear positive cases showed presence of more than 50 bacilli/line in 231(49.5%) cases and smear negative cases accounted for 63(13.5%).Among smear positive cases,291(94.5%) cultures grew Mycobacterium species and another 17(5.5%) cultures grew *** smear negative cases,32(62.7%) cultures grew Mycobacterium species and 19(37.3%) cultures grew ***:The results from data analysis of the Mycobacterium cultures should be critically utilized in order to review the laboratory performance and to improve its services in the *** of the data is also useful to the administrators of the hospital in terms of estimating the risk of occupational hazard faced by the health care workers.

A Grid-tied PV Inverter with Sag-severity-independent Low-voltage Ride Through, Reactive Power Support, and Islanding Protection

This paper proposes a grid-tied photovoltaic(PV)inverter capable of low-voltage ride through(LVRT), reactive power support, and islanding protection. Unlike other LVRT inverters, the proposed inverter is independent of sag severity while maintaining the maximum power-point tracking(MPPT)under normal and faulty conditions. The addition of an energy storage buffer stage mitigates the DC-link voltage surge during sags. At the same time, the inverter injects the reactive power during back-to-back sags of variable depths. The control system of the inverter generates the appropriate reference signals for normal, LVRT, and anti-islanding modes while the MPPT continues running. The salient features of the proposed inverter are:(1) active power injection under normal grid conditions;(2)sag-depth independent LVRT with reactive power support;(3)no DC-link fluctuations;(4) continuous MPPT mode;and(5) simultaneous LVRT and anti-islanding support during a grid outage. The inverter demonstrates an uninterrupted operation and seamless transition between various operating modes. Simulations and the experimental prototype have been implemented to validate the efficacy of the proposed PV inverter.

A generic approach of integrating 3D models into virtual manufacturing

Various 3D modeling software has been developed for design and manufacturing. Most of the commercially available software uses native file formats, which may not be able to be read or understood by other software. This paper deals with the development of a generic approach of a 3D model conversion program for virtual manufacturing （VM）, using a lexical analyzer generator Lex and the Open Graphic Library （OpenGL）. The program is able to convert 3D mesh data between four universal file formats, i.e., Stereolithography （STL）, Virtual Reality Modeling Language （VRML）, eXtensible Markup Language （XML）, and Object （OBJ）. Simple assembly functions can be applied to the imported models. The quaternion angle is used for object rotation to overcome the problem of gimbal lock or a loss of one degree of rotational freedom. The program has been validated by importing the neutral format models into the program, applying the transformation, saving the new models with a new coordinate system, and lastly exporting into other commercial software. The results showed that the program is able to render and re-arrange accurately the geometry data from the different universal file formats and that it can be used in VM. Therefore, the output models from a VM system can be transferred or imported to another VM system in a universal file format.

Use of reducing agents for the aerobic growth of Campylobacter jejuni

Objective:To produce a technique for the growth of Campylobacter jejuni in aerobic condition Methods:Different combinations of reducing agents were tested in brucella broth and the growth turbidity was compared with tubes containing normal broth *** environment was also provided in a petri plate seeded with Campylobacter culture by pouring 3 different concentrations（10%,5%and 2.5%） of five reducing agents along with bacto-agar in the lid which was used to cover and seal the culture *** reducing agents were also added in broth in concentration of 0.25 mg/mL of each with different ***:In lid agar technique,Campylobacter jejuni growth appeared in all three concentrations of reducing agents, that is 10%,5%and 2.5%after 24 hours of incubation but the best results were observed in 10% *** colonial and morphological characters were not affected when the organisms were grown by this ***:It was found that reducing agents enhance the growth of ***/*** combination of FeSO4,Na2CO3 with H3BO3 worked as ideal mixture for the aerobic growth of *** technique is more economical as compared to commercially available media in the market and can be used for the oral facultative and microaerophilic bacterial growth in laboratory.

Synthesis, Characterization and X-ray Structure of N-(4-bromobutanoyl-N'-(2-3-and 4-methylphenyl)thiourea

N-4-（bromobutanoyl）-N＇-（o-, m- and p-tolyl）thioureas 3a, 3b and 3c respectively, were synthesized by the reaction of 4-bromobutanoylisothiocyanate with p-, m- and o-toludine. The products were characterized by IR, and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The two carbonoylthiourea isomers N-（4-bromobutanoyl）-N＇-（3-methylphenyl）thiourea （3b） and N-（4-bromobutanoyl）-N＇-（4- methylphenyl）thiourea （3c） were obtained in crystalline form by recrystallization from DMSO. X- ray crystallographic studies showed that both compounds 3b and 3c crystallize in triclinic system with space group ofPi. The molecules adopt trans-cis configuration with respect to the positions of 4-bromobutanoyl and tolyl groups respectively, against the thiono C=S bond across their C-N bonds The configuration is attributed by the intrahydrogen bond between the carbonyl oxygen and amide hydrogen atoms. Both crystal structures are stabilized by N-H…S intermolecular hydrogen bonds to form dimers and arranged along the b axis.
