Crowdfunding is emerging as an alternative form of funding for medical purposes,with capital being raised directly from a broader and more diverse audience of *** this paper,we have systematically researched and reviewed the literature on medical crowdfunding to determine how crowdfunding connects with the health care *** health care industry has been struggling to develop sustainable research and business models for economic systems and investors alike,especially in *** research results have revealed a wealth of evidence concerning the way crowdfunding is applied in real *** and caregivers utilize web platform–based campaigns all over the world to fund their medical expenses,generally on a spot basis,using donation-based or even reward-based schemes,regardless of the health care system archetype(public,private insurance-based or hybrid).Academics have also focused on funding campaigns and the predictors of success(which range from social behaviour and environment to the basic demographics of the campaigners and their diseases)and on social and regulatory concerns,including heightened social inequality and *** equity crowdfunding is disrupting the way many ventures/businesses seek capital in the market,our research indicates that there are no relevant or consistent data on the practice of medical equity crowdfunding in health care,apart from a few anecdotal cases.

A novel approach for manufacturing of layered,ultra-refractory composites using pliable,short fibre-reinforced ceramic sheets

A new additive technique for manufacturing of short fibre-reinforced ultra-refractory ceramics is *** technique allows the fabrication of solvent-free,thin(~100µm),flexible,and easy-to-handle sheets suitable for fabricating homogeneous or layered structures.A large range of compositions,in terms of matrix and fibre volumetric contents,from 0%to 100%is *** amount of short carbon fibres incorporated in the sheets ranged from 20 to 50 vol%,whereas the fibre length ranged from 3 to 5 *** matrix composition investigated with this technique consisted of ZrB_(2)/SiC/Y_(2)O_(3).By increasing the fibre amount from 35 to 50 vol%,an improvement of mechanical properties was ***-point flexural strength(σ)ranged from 107 to 140 MPa,depending on the amount of carbon fibres(Cf).The same holds true for the work of fracture,ranging from 108 to 253 J/m^(2).Functionally graded composites were fabricated by overlapping sheets with a fibre gradient(0%-50%).

Patient-specific instrumentation in total ankle arthroplasty

The recent increase in the adoption of total ankle arthroplasty(TAA)reflects the improvements in implant designs and surgical techniques,including the use of preoperative navigation system and patient-specific instrumentation(PSI),such as custom-made cutting *** guides are customized with respect to each patient's anatomy based on preoperative ankle computed tomography scans,and they drive the saw intra-operatively to improve the accuracy of bone resection and implant *** some promising results,the main queries in the literature are whether PSI improves the reliability of achieving neutral ankle alignment and more accurate implant sizing,whether it is actually superior over standard techniques,and whether it is cost ***,the advantages of PSI in clinical outcomes are still theoretical because the current literature does not allow to confirm its *** purpose of this review article is therefore to assess the current literature on PSI in TAA with regard to current implants with PSI,templating and preoperative planning strategies,alignment and sizing,clinical outcomes,cost analysis,and comparison with standard techniques.

Introduction Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)stands as a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality,ranking as the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death(1).In 80%of cases,HCC arises from an underlying liver disease(2).Despite screening programs for at-risk patients,the prognosis for HCC remains even dismal because of late *** only curative options currently available are liver resection for selected cases,and liver ***,the high rate of recurrence after surgery makes the prognosis *** fact,following curative intent resection,the 5-year recurrence is approximately 60%(3),with 5-year survival after recurrence of 35%(4).

Benefits of minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer

We read with great interest the article that retrospectively analyzed 814 patients with primary gastric cancer,who underwent minimally invasive R0 gastrectomy between 2009 and 2014 by grouping them in laparoscopic vs robotic *** results of the study highlighted that age,American Society of Anesthesiologists status,gastrectomy type and pathological T and N status were the main prognostic factors of minimally invasive gastrectomy and showed how the robotic approach may improve long-term outcomes of advanced gastric *** to most of the current literature,robotic surgery is associated with a statistically longer operating time when compared to open and laparoscopic surgery;however,looking at the adequacy of resection,defined by negative surgical margins and number of lymph nodes removed,it seems that robotic surgery gives better results in terms of the 5-year overall survival and recurrencefree *** robotic approach to gastric cancer surgery aims to overcome the difficulties and technical limitations of laparoscopy in major *** threedimensional vision,articulation of the instruments and good ergonomics for the surgeon allow for accurate and precise movements which facilitate the complex steps of surgery such as lymph node dissection,esophagus-jejunal anastomosis packaging and reproducing the technical accuracy of open *** the literature,as well as the analyzed study,offers us countless data regarding the short-term oncological results of robotic surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer,satisfactory data on long-term follow-up are lacking,so future studies are necessary.

The multidisciplinary research field of bioprinting combines additive manufacturing,biology and material sciences to cre-ate bioconstructs with three-dimensional architectures mimicking natural living *** high interest in the possibility of reproducing biological tissues and organs is further boosted by the ever-increasing need for personalized medicine,thus allowing bioprinting to establish itself in the field of biomedical research,and attracting extensive research efforts from companies,universities,and research institutes *** this context,this paper proposes a scientometric analysis and critical review of the current literature and the industrial landscape of bioprinting to provide a clear overview of its fast-changing and complex *** scientific literature and patenting results for 2000-2020 are reviewed and critically analyzed by retrieving 9314 scientific papers and 309 international patents in order to draw a picture of the scientific and industrial landscape in terms of top research countries,institutions,journals,authors and topics,and identifying the technology hubs *** review paper thus offers a guide to researchers interested in this field or to those who simply want to under-stand the emerging trends in additive manufacturing and 3D bioprinting.

In-silico synthesis of lowest-pressure high-T_(c) ternary superhydrides

We report the theoretical prediction of two high-performing hydride superconductors BaSiH_(8)and SrSiH_(8).They are thermodynamically stable above pressures of 130 and 174 GPa,respectively,and metastable below *** anharmonic phonon calculations,we determine the minimum pressures of dynamical stability to be around 3 GPa for BaSiH8 and 27 GPa for SrSiH_(8),and using the fully anisotropic Migdal-Eliashberg theory,we predict Tc’s around 71 and 126 K,*** also introduce a method to estimate the lowest pressure of synthesis,based on the calculation of the enthalpy barriers protecting the BaSiH_(8)Fm3¯m structure from decomposition at various *** kinetic pressure threshold is sensibly higher than the one based on dynamic stability,but gives a much more rigorous limit for synthesizability.
