By using EPR and magnetic susceptibility measurements, the Cr ion distribution in the xCr2O3.(1-x)[70TeO2·25B2O3·5PbO] glasses with 0＜x≤20 mol% was studied. EPR investigation evidencedthe presence of Cr3+ ions in agreement with the experimentally obtained atomic magnetic moment values. For concentrations x≤3 mol%, the isolated Cr3+ ions coexist with those coupledby dipole-dipole interactions. For x＞3 mol%, the Cr3+ ions participate in superexchange interactions and are predominantly antiferromagnetically coupled.

Human cells contain two types of adenosine deaminases(ADA)each with unique properties:ADA1,which is present in all cells where it modulates intracellular functions and extracellular signaling,and ADA2,which is secreted by immune *** exact intracellular functions of ADA2 remain undetermined and less defined than those of ***2 has distinct characteristics,such as low adenosine affinity,heparin-binding ability,and putative lysosomal ***,we confirm that ADA2 is a lysosomal protein that binds toll-like receptor 9(TLR9)agonists,specifically CpG oligodeoxynucleotides(CpG ODNs).We show that interferon-alpha(IFN-α)is secreted in response to TLR9 activation by CpG ODNs and natural DNA and markedly increases when ADA2 expression is downregulated in plasmacytoid dendritic cells(pDCs).Additionally,the pretreatment of pDCs with RNA further stimulates IFN-αsecretion by pDCs after activation with CpG *** findings indicate that ADA2 regulates TLR9 responses to DNA in activated *** conclusion,decreasing ADA2 expression or blocking it with specific oligonucleotides can enhance IFN-αsecretion from pDCs,improving immune responses against intracellular infections and cancer.

Thermoelectrics are a promising solution to the recovery of some of the 60%of the worldwide energy wasted as ***,their conversion efficiency is low and the best performing materials are brittle,toxic,and made of expensive *** challenge in developing better performing materials is in disrupting the electrical vs thermal conductivity correlation,to achieve low thermal conductivity simultaneously with a high electrical *** nanotubes allow for the decoupling of the electronic density of states from the phonon density of states and this paper shows that flexible,thin films of double-walled carbon nanotube(DWCNT)can form effective n-and p-doped semiconductors that can achieve a combined Seebeck coefficient of 157.6µv K^(−1),the highest reported for a single DWCNT device to *** is achieved through selected surfactant doping,whose role is correlated with the length of the hydrocarbon chain of the hydrophobic tail group of the surfactant’s *** functionalized with Triton X-405 show the highest output power consisting of a single junction of p-and n-type thermoelectric elements,reaching as high as 67 nW for a 45 K temperature *** enabling flexible,cheaper,and more efficient thermoelectric generators through the use of functionalized CNTs.

During the follow up pathological fractures are common complications that can be accompanied by Implant failure and defect situations that are most challenging in their *** SUMMARY We present a case of a 52-year-old female suffering from a pathological fracture of the humeral shaft 10 yr after resection of a Leiomyosarcoma and postoperative radiotherapy. She developed implant failure after retrograde nailing and another failure after revision to double plate fixation. In a two-stage revision, the implants were removed and the huge segmental defect created after debridement was bridged by a compound osteosynthesis with nancy nails and bone cement for formation of the induced membrane. Due to the previous radiotherapy treatment,20 cm of the humeral shaft were declared devascularized but were left in situ as a scaffold. In the second stage, a vascularized fibula graft was used in combination with a double plate fixation and autologous spongiosa grafts for final *** This combinatory treatment approach led to a successful clinical outcome and can be considered in similar challenging cases.

Plant-specific transcriptional regulators called TELOMERE REPEAT BINDING proteins(TRBs)combine two DNA-binding domains,the GH1 domain,which binds to linker DNA and is shared with H1 histones,and the Myb/SANT domain,which specifically recognizes the telobox DNA-binding site ***1,TRB2,and TRB3 proteins recruit Polycomb group complex 2(PRC2)to deposit H3K27me3 and JMJ14 to remove H3K4me3 at gene promoters containing telobox motifs to repress ***,we demonstrate that TRB4 and TRB5,two related paralogs belonging to a separate TRB clade conserved in spermatophytes,regulate the transcription of several hundred genes involved in developmental responses to environmental ***4 binds to several thousand sites in the genome,mainly at transcription start sites and promoter regions of transcriptionally active and H3K4me3-marked genes,but,unlike TRB1,it is not enriched at H3K27me3-marked gene ***,TRB4 can physically interact with the catalytic components of PRC2,SWINGER,and CURLY LEAF(CLF).Unexpectedly,we show that TRB4 and TRB5 are required for distinctive phenotypic traits observed in clf mutant plants and thus function as transcriptional activators of several hundred CLF-controlled genes,including key flowering *** further demonstrate that TRB4 shares multiple target genes with TRB1 and physically and genetically interacts with members of both TRB ***,these results reveal that TRB proteins engage in both positive and negative interactions with other members of the family to regulate plant development through both PRC2-dependent and-independent mechanisms.

Let G be a finite connected graph. The eccentric connectivity index ξ^c(G) of G is defined as ξ^c(G)=∑v∈v(G)ec(υ)deg(υ), where ec(v) and deg(υ) denote the eccentricity and degree of a vertex v in G, respectively. In this paper, we give an asymptotically sharp upper bound on the eccentric connectivity index in terms of order and vertex-connectivity and in terms of order and edge-connectivity. We also improve the bounds for triangle-free graphs.

Spatial targeting evaluation of energy and environmental performance of waste-to-energy processing

Waste-to-energy supply chains are important potential contributors to minimising the environmental impacts of municipal solid waste by reducing the amounts of waste sent to landfill, as well as the fossil fuel consumption and environmental footprints. Accounting for the spatial and transport properties of the waste-to-energy supply chains is crucial for understanding the problem and improving the supply chain designs. The most significant challenge is the distributed nature of the waste generation and the household energy demands. The current work proposes concepts and a procedure for targeting the size of the municipal solid waste collection zone as the first step in the waste-to-energy supply chains synthesis. The formulated concepts and the provided case study reveal trends of reducing the net greenhouse gas savings and energy recovery by increasing the collection zone size. Population density has a positive correlation with the greenhouse gas saving and energy recovery performance. For smaller zone size the energy recovery from waste approaches and in some cases may surpass the energy spent on waste transportation. The energy recovery and greenhouse gas savings remain significant even for collection zones as large as 200 km(2). The obtained trends are discussed and key directions for future work are proposed.
