The primary challenge of mineland revegetation is the establishment of species able to cope with low availability of nutrients,especially in steep slopes such as of mine *** evaluated plant growth response and nutrient use efficiency(NUE)of two promising native Fabaceae species(Dioclea apurensis—liana from metalliferous savannas;Bauhinia longipedicellata—tree from Amazon rainforest)from the Caraja´s Mineral Province,eastern *** were grown separately in 2-kg pots filled with mining *** were fertilized with nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium(NPK),lime,and *** results showed increments on growth of both species when nutrients were applied to the mining *** showed increases in leaf area,plant height,stem diameter,and shoot dry mass production when NPK or NPK?micronutrients were applied,while *** was responsive to application of NPK?lime or NPK?lime?***,*** showed higher NUE than ***,especially at the lowest doses of N,P and *** findings may indicate a substantial advantage of *** for mineland revegetation,as this species may require lower nutrient inputs,being,therefore,a more sustainable way to revegetate degraded areas.

The progressive deindustrialisation of many western cities since the 1980s has led to many industrial zones linked to port activities being abandoned or falling into *** such as Barcelona,Naples,Lisbon,Amsterdam,and Hamburg have port industrial complexes of high tangible and intangible heritage value that could totally or partially disappear,resulting in an irreparable loss of their scientific,architectural,social,technological,and historical *** that in mind,Adaptive Reuse(AR)of the built heritage allows the industrial memory of the ports to be preserved by turning them into new functional centres within the existing urban *** occurs in the context of the contemporary challenges of those cities,such as touristification,the circular economy and climate change,while guaranteeing the life cycle of those *** article analyses two case studies—the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij(NDSM)and the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij(RDM)shipyards,both in the Netherlands—in order to contribute to the knowledge of AR of Port Industrial *** are two examples of good practices in port industrial heritage interventions,where the factors behind their acclaim can be easily highlighted.A multi-scale methodology is therefore used and tailored to the case of port industrial heritage,based on analysing previous studies of the heritage in different spheres and on different scales.A relationship matrix tool is thus *** enables a comparative study to be conducted,using key variables and indicators,and considering qualitative and quantitative *** provides extensive output information for each case study,which is summarised in the most favourable factors for the success of the AR of this port industrial heritage.

Background:To finish an endurance race,athletes perform a vigorous effort that induces the release of cardiac damage *** are several factors that can affect the total number of these markers,so the aim of this review was to analyze the effect of endurance running races on cardiac damage markers and to identify the factors that modify the levels of segregation of these cardiac damage ***:A systematic search of PubMed,Web of Science,and the Cochrane Library databases was *** analysis included studies where the acute effects of running races on cardiac damage markers(troponin I and troponin T)were analyzed,assessing the levels of these markers before and after the ***:The effects of running races on troponin I(mean difference=0.0381 ng/mL)and troponin T(mean difference=0.0256 ng/mL)levels were *** ages(R^(2)=14.4%,p=0.033)and body mass indexes(R^(2)=14.5%,p=0.045)of the athletes had a significant interaction with troponin *** addition,gender,mean speed,time to finish the race,and type of race can affect the level of cardiac damage ***:Endurance running races induce the release of cardiac-damage markers that remain elevated for at least 24 h after the *** addition,young male athletes with high body mass indexes who perform races combining long duration and moderate intensity(i.e.,marathons)release the highest levels of cardiac damage *** should take into consideration these results in the diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted to the hospital days after finishing endurance running races.

The aim of this study was to identify inflammation-associated markers during the early phase of sepsis in rhesus macaque. Four rhesus macaques were given an intravenous dose of 1010 CFU/kg of E. coli. Blood samples were collected before, or 30 minutes, 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours after E. coli infusion. Physiological parameters, bacteremia, endotoxemia, C-reactive protein(CRP), procalcitonin(PCT), and plasma cytokines/chemokines were determined for each animal. Bacteremia was present in all animals from 30 minutes to 3 hours after E. coli infusion whereas endotoxin was detected during the full-time course. CRP and PCT levels remained at detectable levels during the whole experimental window suggesting an ongoing inflammatory process. Signature cytokines and chemokines such as TNF-α, MIP-1α, and MIP-1β peaked about 2 hours after E. coli infusion and decreased thereafter. Plasma IL-6, IL-12 p40, IFN-γ, and IL-1 Ra, as well as I-TAC, MIG, IP-10 and MCP-1, remained at detectable levels after 4 hours of E. coli infusion. This nonhuman primate model could be useful for the assessment of new therapeutics aiming to suppress key inflammatory markers throughout sepsis early phases.

The mechanical behavior of advanced composites can be modeled mathematically through unknown variables and Shear Strain Thickness Functions(SSTFs). Such SSTFs can be of polynomial or non-polynomial nature and some parameters of non-polynomial SSTFs can be optimized to get optimal results. In this paper, these parameters are called ‘‘r" and ‘‘s" and they are the argument of the trigonometric SSTFs introduced within the Carrera Unified Formulation(CUF). The Equivalent Single Layer(ESL) governing equations are obtained by employing the Principle of Virtual Displacement(PVD) and are solved using Navier method solution. Furthermore, trigonometric expansion with Murakami theory was implemented in order to reproduce the Zig-Zag effects which are important for multilayer structures. Several combinations of optimization parameters are evaluated and selected by different criteria of average error. Results of the present unified trigonometrical theory with CUF bases confirm that it is possible to improve the stress and displacement results through the thickness distribution of models with reduced unknown variables. Since the idea is to find a theory with reduced numbers of unknowns, the present method appears to be an appropriate technique to select a simple model. However these optimization parameters depend on the plate geometry and the order of expansion or unknown variables. So, the topic deserves further research.
