Background Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)is generally considered to be more frequent in males than in ***,it is not known whether sex differences in ROP affect all degrees of the condition,are global and have changed as neonatology has *** aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies addressing sex differences in the risk of developing *** Pubmed/mEDLINE and Embase databases were *** frequentist,random-effects risk ratio(RR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)were *** model averaged(BmA)meta-analysis was used to calculate the Bayes factors(BFs).The BF10 is the ratio of the probability of the data under the alternative hypothesis(H1)over the probability of the data under the null hypothesis(H0).Results We included 205 studies(867,252 infants).Frequentist meta-analysis showed a positive association between male sex and severe ROP(113 studies,RR=1.14,95%CI=1.07–1.22)but no association with any ROP(144 studies,RR=1.00,95%CI=0.96–1.03).BmA showed extreme evidence in favor of H1 for severe ROP(BF10=71,174)and strong evidence in favor of H0 for any ROP(BF10=0.05).The association between male sex and severe ROP remained stable over time and was present only in cohorts from countries with a high or high-middle sociodemographic *** Our study confirms the presence of a male disadvantage in severe ROP but not in less severe forms of the *** are variations in the sex differences in ROP,depending on geographical location and sociodemographic level of the countries.

This narrative review provides an overview of the utilization of endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage(EUS-GBD)as a salvage approach in cases of unsuccessful conventional ***-GBD is a minimally invasive and effective technique for drainage in patients with acute cholecystitis with high risk of *** procedure has demonstrated impressive technical and clinical success rates with low rates of adverse events,making it a safe and effective option for appropriate ***,EUS-GBD can also serve as a rescue option for patients who have failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or EUS biliary drainage for relief of jaundice in malignant biliary ***,patient selection is critical for the success of EUS-GBD,and proper patient selection and risk assessment are important to ensure the safety and efficacy of the *** the field continues to evolve and mature,ongoing research will further refine our understanding of the benefits and limitations of EUS-GBD,ultimately leading to improved outcomes for patients.

Interfacial solar desalination is an emerging technology for freshwater production,but the finding of novel solar evaporators is still *** the present research,graphitic carbon foam(CF)was synthesized from the upcycling of waste plastic polyethylene terephthalate(PET)waste bottles functionalized with carrollite CuCo_(2)S_(4) as a photothermal *** characterization[X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEm-EDS)]confirms the functionalization of carrollite CuCo_(2)S_(4) on graphitic carbon *** UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis showed an enhanced optical absorption in the UV-Vis-near IR region(>96%)for functionalized CuCo_(2)S_(4)-CF foam compared to carbon foam(67%).The interfacial solar desalination experiment presented a significantly enhanced evaporation rate of 2.4 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1) for CuCo_(2)S_(4)-CF compared to that of CF(1.60 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1))and that of CuCo_(2)S_(4)(1.60 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1)).The obtained results proved that the newly synthesized CuCo_(2)S_(4)-CF from the upcycled plastic into new material for the photothermal desalination process can enhance the practice of a circular economy to produce fresh water.

Biodegradable nanoparticles such as chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) are used in sustainable agriculture since theyavoid damage to the environment;CSNPs have positive effects such as the accumulation of bioactive compoundsand increased productivity in plants. This study aimed to investigate the impact of applying CSNPs on lettuce,specifically focusing on enzymatic activity, bioactive compounds, and yield. The trial was conducted using a completelyrandomized design, incorporating CSNPs: 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mg mL−1. The doses of 0.4 mg mL−1improve yields up to 24.6% increases and 0.1 mg mL−1 of CSNPs increases total phenols by 31.2% and antioxidantcapacity by 34.6%. In addition, when low concentrations of CSNPs (0.05 and 0.1 mg L−1) were applied, anincrease in catalase was determined. The CSNPs represent a good alternative to be used as a biostimulant in sustainableagriculture because they improve the yield and quality of lettuce by increasing the bioactive compounds.

The use of entomopathogenic fungi (EF) in recent years has been highly effective against the different orders of insects considered pests of agricultural importance and their conidia have been commonly applied, but it has been reported that these are sensitive to the environmental conditions. For this reason, biopesticides products have been formulated based on secondary metabolites, recently. These biomolecules participate as biological control agent, such as: cyclic depsipeptides, amino acids, polyketides, polyphenols and terpenoids, affecting their morphology, life cycle and insect behavior. The use of secondary metabolites of entomopathogenic fungi opens the possibility of application in a more efficient way for the control of agricultural pests in a compatible with the environment and human health;therefore, it is important to know, analyzing the type of molecules, their effects, and their different methods of application.

The multidisciplinary research field of bioprinting combines additive manufacturing,biology and material sciences to cre-ate bioconstructs with three-dimensional architectures mimicking natural living *** high interest in the possibility of reproducing biological tissues and organs is further boosted by the ever-increasing need for personalized medicine,thus allowing bioprinting to establish itself in the field of biomedical research,and attracting extensive research efforts from companies,universities,and research institutes *** this context,this paper proposes a scientometric analysis and critical review of the current literature and the industrial landscape of bioprinting to provide a clear overview of its fast-changing and complex *** scientific literature and patenting results for 2000-2020 are reviewed and critically analyzed by retrieving 9314 scientific papers and 309 international patents in order to draw a picture of the scientific and industrial landscape in terms of top research countries,institutions,journals,authors and topics,and identifying the technology hubs *** review paper thus offers a guide to researchers interested in this field or to those who simply want to under-stand the emerging trends in additive manufacturing and 3D bioprinting.

The dual role of macrophages in the healing process depends on macrophage ability to polarize into phenotypes that can propagate inflammation or exert anti-inflammatory and tissue-remodeling *** scaf-fold geometry has been proposed as a strategy to influence macrophage behavior and favor the positive host response to ***,we fabricated Polycaprolactone(PCL)scaffolds by melt Electrowriting(mEW)to investigate the ability of scaffold architecture to modulate macrophage *** human macrophages unpolarized(m0)or polarized into m1,m2a,and m2c phenotypes were cultured on PCL films and mEW scaffolds with pore geometries(square,triangle,and rhombus grid)characterized by different angles.m0,m2a,and m2c macrophages wrapped along the fibers,while m1 macrophages formed clusters with rounded *** bridges were formed only for angles up to 90◦.No relevant differences were found among PCL films and 3D scaffolds in terms of surface ***206 and CD163 were highly expressed by m2a and m2c macrophages,with m2a macrophages presenting also high levels of CD86.m1 macrophages expressed moderate levels of all *** rhombus architecture promoted an increased release by m2a macrophages of IL10,IL13,and sCD163 compared to PCL *** proangiogenic factor IL18 was also upregulated by the rhombus configuration in m0 and m2a macrophages compared to PCL *** interesting findings obtained for the rhombus architecture represent a starting point for the design of scaffolds able to modulate macrophage phenotype,prompting investigations addressed to verify their ability to facilitate the healing process in vivo.

Background:Continuous and primary in vitro cultures are largely used to study cellular mechanisms occurring in several pathologic-like or pathological *** cell lines allow to perform long-lasting experiments since they do not undergo ***:The immortalized moorfields/Institute of Ophtalmology-müller 1(mIO-m1)cell type represents a valuable model to analyze the mechanistic pathways characterizing müller glial cells,both in health and in ***-m1 can be used to dissect the response of these glial cells following treatments which mimic pathological *** instance,mIO-m1 are useful to study the response of this cell type to stress condition as the case of oxidative stress(OS)(cultured with hydrogen peroxide),pathological neovascularization(cultured with VEGF),hypoxic or hyperoxic condition(cultured in low or high oxygen chamber).On the other hand,primary cultures allow to specifically analyze cellular responses without the interference of the whole organ,although the experimental treatment is performed in *** müller cells can be used to perform electrophysiological analyses of different cell ***:We describe how to manage mIO-m1 cells and how to analyze their response to different stress conditions;moreover,we report how to isolate and identify primary müller cells and how to perform patch clamp and single cell recordings on them.
