Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)have emerged as promising power sources for high-performance devices such as electric ***,the poor energy density of LSBs owing to polysulfide shuttling and passivation has limited their further market *** mitigate this challenge,two-dimensional(2D)siloxene(2Dsi),a si-based analog of graphene,is utilized as an additive for sulfur *** 2Dsi is fabricated on a large scale by simple solvent extraction of calcium disilicide to form a thin-layered structure of si planes functionalized with vertically aligned hydroxyl groups in the *** stoichiometric reaction of 2Dsi with polysulfides generates a thiosulfate redox mediator,secures the intercalation pathway,and reveals Lewis acidic sites within the siloxene *** 2Dsi utilizes the corresponding in-situ-formed electrocatalyst,the 2D confinement effect of the layered structure,and the surface affinity based on Lewis acid-base interaction to improve the energy density of 2Dsi-based LSB *** with the commercial carbon-based current collector,2Dsi-based LSB cells achieve a volumetric energy density of 612 Wh Lcell^(−1) at 1 mA cm^(−2) with minor degradation of 0.17%per cycle,which rivals those of state-of-the-art *** study presents a method for the industrial production of high-energy-dense LSBs.

Litterfall, which is influenced by physical and biological factors, is a major pathway for carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to investigate monthly litterfall production in three forests in Jeju Island differentiated by forest composition and precipitation: Cheongsu(Quercus glauca as the dominant species;low precipitation), Seonheulb(Q. glauca as the dominant species;high precipitation), and Seonheulm(Q. glauca and Pinus thunbergii as the dominant species;high precipitation). Litterfall was collected monthly from April to December 2015 and divided into leaf litter, twig, bark, seeds, and unidentified *** patterns of litterfall production varied across stands according to their species composition. However,the amount of leaf litterfall and total litterfall were comparable among stands, ranging from 362 to 375 g m-2 for leaf litter and 524 g m-2 to 580 g m-2 for total *** leaf litter in May was the highest in all stands, while needle litter was the highest in December in *** twig litterfall in July may be attributable to high rainfall with strong winds and storms during the rainy season. Although forest type and climate factor had no influence on litterfall amounts in this study, the pattern of litterfall production was species dependent, suggesting diverse effects on carbon and nutrient cycling in these forests.

Recently,the layered transition metal dichalcogenide 1T′-MoTe2 has generated considerable interest due to their superconducting and non-trivial topological ***,we present a systematic study on 1T′-MoTe2 single-crystal and exfoliated thin-flakes by means of electrical transport,scanning tunnelling microscope(STM)measurements and band structure *** a bulk sample,it exhibits large magneto-resistance(MR)and Shubnikov–de Hass oscillations inρxx and a series of Hall plateaus inρxy at low ***,the MoTe2 thin films were intensively investigated with thickness *** samples,without encapsulation,an apparent transition from the intrinsic metallic to insulating state is observed by reducing *** such thin films,we also observed a suppression of the MR and weak anti-localization(WAL)*** attributed these effects to disorders originated from the extrinsic surface chemical reaction,which is consistent with the density functional theory(DFT)calculations and in-situ STM *** contrast to samples without encapsulated protection,we discovered an interesting superconducting transition for those samples with hexagonal Boron Nitride(h-BN)film *** results indicate that the metallic or superconducting behavior is its intrinsic state,and the insulating behavior is likely caused by surface oxidation in few layer 1T’-MoTe2 flakes.

AIM:To investigate the survival outcomes of secondaryhepatectomy for recurrent colorectal liver metastases(CRLM).METHODS:From October 1994 to December 2009,patients with CRLM who underwent surgical treatment with curative intent were *** were divided into two groups:patients who underwent primary hepatectomy(Group 1)and those who underwent secondary hepatectomy for recurrent CRLM(Group 2).RESULTS:Survival and prognostic factors were analyzed.A total of 461 patients were included:406patients in Group 1 and 55 patients in Group *** a median 39-mo(range,3-195 mo)follow-up,there was a significant difference between Groups 1 and 2in terms of disease-free survival(P=0.029)although there was no significant difference in overall survival(P=0.206).Secondary hepatectomy was less effective in patients with multiple recurrent CRLM than primary hepatectomy for initial CRLM(P=0.008).Multiple CRLM and radiofrequency ablation therapy were poor prognostic factors of secondary hepatectomy in multivariate Cox regression analysis(P=0.006,P=0.004,respectively).CONCLUsiON:Secondary hepatectomy for single recurrent CRLM is as effective as primary surgical treatment for single recurrent ***,secondary hepatectomy for multiple recurrent CRLM is less effective than that for single recurrent CRLM.

A versatile use of a sulfur self-doped biochar derived from Camellia japonica(camellia)flowers is demonstrated as a multifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting and a *** native sulfur content in the camellia flower facilitates in situ self-doping of sulfur,which highly activates the camellia-driven biochar(SA-Came)as a multifunctional catalyst with the enhanced electron-transfer ability and long-term *** water splitting,an SA-Came-based electrode is highly stable and shows reaction activities in both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions,with overpotentials of 154 and 362 mV at 10 mA cm^(−2),*** supercapacitors,SA-Came achieves a specific capacitance of 125.42 F g^(−1)at 2 A g^(−1)and high cyclic stability in a three-electrode system in a 1 M KOH *** demonstrated a high energy density of 34.54 Wh kg^(−1)at a power density of 1600 W kg^(−1)as a symmetric hybrid supercapacitor device with a wide working potential range of 0-1.6 V.

Based on the sub-region generalized variationM principle, a sub-region mixed version of the newly-developed semi-analytical ＇finite element method of lines＇（FEMOL） is proposed in this paper for accurate and efficient computation of stress intensity factors （siFs） of two-dimensional notches/cracks. The circular regions surrounding notch/crack tips are taken as the complementary energy region in which a number of leading terms of singular solutions for stresses are used, with the sought siFs being among the unknown coefficients. The rest of the arbitrary domain is taken as the potential energy region in which FEMOL is applied to obtain approximate displacements. A mixed system of ordinary differential equations （ODEs） and algebraic equations is derived via the sub-region generalized variational principle. A singularity removal technique that eliminates the stress parameters from the mixed equation system eventually yields a standard FEMOL ODE system, the solution of which is no longer singular and is simply and efficiently obtained using a standard general-purpose ODE solver. A number of numerical examples, including bi-material notches/cracks in anti-plane and plane elasticity, are given to show the generally excellent performance of the proposed method.

Fault is a common geological structure that has been revealed in the process of underground coal excavation and *** nature of its discontinuous structure controls the deformation,damage,and mechanics of the coal or rock *** interaction between this discontinuous structure and mining activities is a key factor that dominates fault reactivation and the coal burst it can *** paper first summarizes investigations into the relationships between coal mining layouts and fault occurrences,along with relevant conceptual models for fault ***,it proposes mechanisms of fault reactivation and its induced coal burst based on the superposition of static and dynamic stresses,which include two kinds of fault reactivations from:mining-induced quasi-static stress(FRMSS)-dominated and seismic-based dynamic stress(FRSDS)-*** two kinds of fault reactivations are then validated by the results of experimental investigations,numerical modeling,and in situ microseismic *** this basis,monitoring methods and prevention strategies for fault-induced coal burst are discussed and *** results show that fault-induced coal burst is triggered by the superposition of high static stress in the fault pillar and dynamic stress from fault *** static stress comes from the interaction of the fault and the roof structure,and dynamic stress can be ascribed to FRMSS and *** results in this paper could be of great significance in guiding the monitoring and prevention of fault-induced coal bursts.

Phase and polarization singularities are important degrees of freedom for electromagnetic field *** these singularities is essential for modern optics,but it is still a challenge,especially in integrated optical *** this paper,we propose an on-chip plasmonic spin-Hall nanograting structure that simultaneously detects both the polarization and phase singularities of the incident cylindrical vortex vector beam(CVVB).The nanograting is symmetry-breaking with different periods for the upper and lower parts,which enables the unidirectional excitation of the surface plasmon polariton depending on the topological charge of the incident optical vortex ***,spin-Hall meta-slits are integrated onto the grating so that the structure has a chiral response for polarization *** demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the designed structure fully discriminates both the topological charges and polarization states of the incident beam *** proposed structure has great potential in compact integrated photonic circuits.
