Droplet microfluidics has emerged as a critical component of several high-throughput single-cell analysis techniques in biomedical research and *** significant progress in the development of individual assays,multiparametric optical sensing of droplets and their encapsulated contents has been *** current approaches,most commonly involving microscopy-based high-speed imaging of droplets,are technically complex and require expensive instrumentation,limiting their widespread *** address these limitations,we developed the OptiDrop platform;this platform is a novel optofluidic setup that leverages the principles of flow *** platform enables on-chip detection of the scatter and multiple fluorescence signals from the microfluidic droplets and their contents using optical *** highly customizable on-chip optical fiber-based signal detection system enables simplified,miniaturized,low-cost,multiparametric sensing of optical signals with high sensitivity and single-cell resolution within each *** demonstrate the ability of the OptiDrop platform,we conducted a differential expression analysis of the major histocompatibility complex(MHC)protein in response to IFNγ*** results showed the platform’s ability to sensitively detect cell surface biomarkers using fluorescently labeled ***,the OptiDrop platform combines the versatility of flow cytometry with the power of droplet microfluidics to provide wide-ranging,scalable optical sensing solutions for research and diagnostics.

Background Multiple cerebral venous sinus thrombosis(CVT)registries from various geographical regions indicate that female gender,the use of contraceptive pills,pregnancy and puerperium are important risk *** this study,we report the changes in the epidemiology of patients with CVT managed over the past 26 *** The CMC Vellore CVT registry is a prospectively maintained database at the Christian Medical College,Vellore since January *** software was used to analyse the data and assess the changes in the incidence,age and gender distribution over the previous 26 *** Among 1701 patients treated during the study period,908(53%)were women and 793(47%)were *** mean incidence of CVT was 49 per 100000 admissions before 2010,which increased to 96 per 100000 after *** gender had a higher odds of developing CVT OR–2.07(CI 1.68 to 2.55,p<0.001).This could be attributed to the declining incidence of postpartum CVT after 2010 compared with the decade before 2010(50%vs 20%).The mean age at presentation had increased from 24.5 to 33.2 years in the last *** There was a clear change in the gender pattern from being a condition with female preponderance,to one where equal or more men are being *** incidence of postpartum CVT cases could be the driving *** increase in the overall incidence of CVT cases was noted,probably due to a higher index of clinical suspicion and better diagnostic imaging modalities.

Radio spectral index from NVSS and TGSS

I extract the radio spectral index,α,from 541 195 common sources observed in the 150 MHz TIFR GMRT Sky Survey(TGSS) and the 1.4 GHz NRAO VLA Sky Survey(NVSS).This large common source catalog covers about 80% of the *** flux density limits in these surveys are such that the observed galaxies are presumably hosts of active galactic nuclei(AGNs).I confirm the steepening of αwith increasing flux density for this large sample and provide a parametric fit between α and flux ***,I divide the data into low flux(LF) and high flux(HF) density samples with roughly equal numbers of *** LF sample contains all galaxies below 100 m Jy TGSS and 20 m Jy NVSS flux density and the HF sample is all galaxies above 100 m Jy TGSS and 20 m Jy NVSS.I observe an increase in α with source size(TGSS measured),saturating for large sizes to 0.89 ± 0.22 and 0.76 ± 0.21 for the LF and HF sources,respectively.I discuss the observed results and possible physical mechanisms to explain observedα dependence with source size for LF and HF samples.

A review:Advances in microbial remediation of trichloroethylene (TCE)

Research works in the recent past have revealed three major biodegradation processes leading to the degradation of trichloroethylene. Reductive dechlorination is an anaerobic process in which chlorinated ethenes are used as electron acceptors. On the other hand, cometabolism requires oxygen for enzymatic degradation of chlorinated ethenes, which however yields no benefit for the bacteria involved. The third process is direct oxidation under aerobic conditions whereby chlorinated ethenes are directly used as electron donors by microorganisms. This review presented the current research trend in understanding biodegradation mechanisms with regard to their field applications. All the techniques used are evaluated, with the focus being on various factors that influence the process and the outcome.

Convolutional neural networks for the diagnosis and prognosis of the coronavirus disease pandemic

A neural network is one of the current trends in deep learning,which is increasingly gaining attention owing to its contribution in transforming the different facets of human *** also paves a way to approach the current crisis caused by the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)from all scientific *** neural network(CNN),a type of neural network,is extensively applied in the medical field,and is particularly useful in the current COVID-19 *** this article,we present the application of CNNs for the diagnosis and prognosis of COVID-19 using X-ray and computed tomography(CT)images of COVID-19 *** CNN models discussed in this review were mainly developed for the detection,classification,and segmentation of COVID-19 *** base models used for detection and classification were AlexNet,Visual Geometry Group Network with 16 layers,residual network,DensNet,GoogLeNet,MobileNet,Inception,and extreme Inception.U-Net and voxel-based broad learning network were used for *** with limited datasets,these methods proved to be beneficial for efficiently identifying the occurrence of *** further validate these observations,we conducted an experimental study using a simple CNN framework for the binary classification of COVID-19 CT *** achieved an accuracy of 93%with an F1-score of ***,with the availability of improved medical image datasets,it is evident that CNNs are very useful for the efficient diagnosis and prognosis of COVID-19.
