Effects of disinfection efficiency on microbial communities and corrosion processes in drinking water distribution systems simulated with actual running conditions

The effects of disinfection efficiency on microbial communities and the corrosion of cast iron pipes in drinking water distribution systems(DWDSs) were *** annular reactors(ARs) that simulated actual running conditions with UV/Cl2 disinfection and chlorination alone were *** chlorine consumption and corrosion rate were found in the AR with UV/*** to functional genes and pyrosequencing tests, a high percentage of iron recycling bacteria was detected within the biofilm of the AR with Cl2 at early running stage, whereas siderophore-producing bacteria were dominant in the biofilm of the AR with UV/*** the early running stage, the sequential use of UV light and an initial high chlorine dosage suppressed the biomass and iron-recycling bacteria in both bulk water and biofilms, thereby forming less protective scales against further corrosion, which enhanced chlorine ***-metric multidimensional scaling analysis showed that the bacterial communities in the ARs shaped from within rather than being imported by *** results indicate that the initial high disinfection efficiency within the distribution system had not contributed to the accumulation of iron-recycling bacteria at the early running *** study offer certain implications for controlling corrosion and water quality in DWDSs.

Developing cost-effective,robust and stable non-precious metal catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) is of paramount importance for electrochemical energy conversion devices such as fuel cells and metal-air *** Fe-N-C single atom catalysts(SACs) have been hailed as the most promising candidate due to the optimal binding strength of ORR intermediates on the Fe-N_(4) sites,they suffer from serious mass transport limitations as microporous templates/substrates,i.e.,zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs),are usually employed to host the active *** by this challenge,we herein develop a hydrogen-bonded organic framework(HOF)-assisted pyrolysis strategy to construct hierarchical micro/mesoporous carbon nanoplates for the deposition of atomically dispersed Fe-N_(4) *** a design is accomplished by employing HOF nanoplates assembled from 2-aminoterephthalic acid(NH_(2)-BDC) and p-phenylenediamine(PDA) as both soft templates and C,N *** from the structural merits inherited from HOF templates,the optimized catalyst(denoted as Fe-N-C SAC-950) displays outstanding ORR activity with a high half-wave potential of 0.895 V(*** hydrogen electrode(RHE)) and a small overpotential of 356 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2) for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER).More excitingly,its application potential is further verified by delivering superb rechargeability and cycling stability with a nearly unfading charge-discharge gap of 0.72 V after 160 *** dynamics(MD) simulations reveal that micro/mesoporous structure is conducive to the rapid mass transfer of O_(2),thus enhancing the ORR *** situ Raman results further indicate that the conversion of O_(2) to~*O_(2)-the rate-determining step(RDS) for Fe-N-C *** work will provide a versatile strategy to construct single atom catalysts with desirable catalytic properties.

Targeting macrophagic 17β-HSD7 by fenretinide for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide and macrophage polarization plays an important role in its ***,which molecule regulates macrophage polarization in NAFLD remains ***,we showed NAFLD mice exhibited increased 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 7(17β-HSD7)expression in hepatic macrophages concomitantly with elevated M1 ***-cell RNA sequencing on hepatic non-parenchymal cells isolated from wild-type littermates and macrophage-17β-HSD7 knockout mice fed with high fat diet(HFD)for 6 weeks revealed that lipid metabolism pathways were notably ***,17β-HSD7 deficiency in macrophages attenuated HFD-induced hepatic steatosis,insulin resistance and liver ***,17β-HSD7 triggered NLRP3 inflammasome activation by increasing free cholesterol content,thereby promoting M1 polarization of macrophages and the secretion of pro-inflammatory *** addition,to help demonstrate that 17β-HSD7 is a potential drug target for NAFLD,fenretinide was screened out from an FDA-approved drug library based on its 17β-HSD7 dehydrogenase inhibitory *** dose-dependently abrogated macrophage polarization and pro-inflammatory cytokines production,and subsequently inhibited fat deposition in hepatocytes co-cultured with *** conclusion,our findings suggest that blockade of 17β-HSD7 signaling by fenretinide would be a drug repurposing strategy for NAFLD treatment.

BACKGROUND Diabetic kidney disease(DKD)is a prevalent complication of diabetes that often requires hemodialysis for *** the field of nursing,there is a growing recognition of the importance of humanistic care,which focuses on the holistic needs of patients,including their emotional,psychological,and social ***,the application of humanistic nursing in the context of hemodialysis for DKD patients remains relatively *** To explore the experience of humanistic nursing in hemodialysis nursing for DKD *** Ninety-six DKD patients treated with hemodialysis from March 2020 to June 2022 were included in the study and divided into the control cluster(48 cases)and the study cluster(48 cases)according to different nursing methods;the control cluster was given routine nursing and the study cluster was given humanized *** variances of negative emotion mark,blood glucose,renal function,the incidence of complications,life mark and nursing satisfaction before and after nur-sing were contrasted between the two *** No significant difference in negative emotion markers between the two clusters were observed before nursing(P>0.05),and the negative emotion markers of the two clusters decreased after *** Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale markers were lower in the study cluster than the control *** healing rate of patients in the study cluster was significantly higher than the control cluster(97.92%vs 85.42%,P0.05).However,after nursing,blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine(SCr)levels in the study cluster were lower than those in the control cluster(P<0.05).The incidence rate of complications was significantly lower in the study group compared to the control cluster(6.25%vs 20.83%,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the life markers between the two clusters be

The corrosion behavior of B10 copper-nickel alloy welded joints in seawater pipeline system was analyzed under local turbulence induced by weld residual *** corrosion behavior was evaluated by array electrode technology,mor-phology and elemental characterization,and COMSOL Multiphysics *** results provide a theoretical basis for the corrosion and leakage of B10 alloy in seawater pipeline under the action of *** results show that residual height-induced turbulence exhibits a significant effect on the corrosion behavior in different areas of welded joints in B10 *** can damage some surfaces,causing polarity deflection followed by acceleration of corrosion,or it is easier to form a protective film to slow down *** Multiphysics results show that the shear rate and turbulent kinetic energy increase linearly with the increase in residual height and *** corrosion behavior of alloy surface is influenced by controlling the mass transfer rate and surface state.

High Average Emission Sites Density of Electron Field Emission from Broad Area Diamond-Amorphous Carbon Thin Films

Diamond-amorphous carbon films were deposited on metal Mo substrates by using microwave chemical vapor deposition technique and masked technique(the Mo substrates were pretreated by special techniques).Round area of diamond-amorphous carbon films is 0.78±0.001cm^(2).The films were characterized by x-ray diffraction,Raman spectrum,optical microscopy,and scanning electron *** result of experiment indicates that diamond-amorphous carbon films with graphite particulates surface morphologies and diamond submicro-sized crystalline grains located in it were *** on this,a novel electron field emission device was *** lowest turn-on field of 1V/μm,high average emission current density of 8.0±0.1mA/cm^(2),and high average emission sites density of(2.00±0.03)x 10^(3) sites/cm^(2) from a broad well-proportioned emission area of 0.780±0.001 cm^(2) were obtained,and the smaller the graphite particulate,the better the emission *** enhancement due to a‘projection on a projection’geometry could be a partial explanation of the result.
