A new insight into promotion action of Co2+ in Ni-diamond composite electrodeposition

A new insight into the promotion action of Co^2+ on both particle and metal deposition in Ni-diamond composite electrodeposition system was analyzed according to electrochemical measurements. The results showed that the addition of Co^2+ made particles content in deposits increased remarkably. The change of particles content in deposits was related inversely to the change of cathodic zero potential with the increase of the concentration of cobalt sulfate. Zero charge potential of cathode was shifted to much more negative region. The negative shift of the zero potential, combining with positive shift of the zeta potential, increased the electrostatic force between the particle-adsorbed metallic cations and the cathode. It not only benefits to the transportation of particles in solution towards cathode, but also shortens their residence time on cathodic surface. Meanwhile, entry of particles is also promoted. For metals deposition,reduction resistance of metallic cations rises greatly and deposition current at cathodic potentiodynamic polarization decreases after cobalt sulfate has been added into electrolyte. These factors are favorable for increasing particles content in deposits. In addition, physical model of diamond particles deposition state before and after the addition of Co^(2+)has been discussed.

Corrosion Resistance of Graphene-Reinforced Waterborne Epoxy Coatings

Graphene （G） was dispersed uniformly in water and used as an inhibitor in waterborne epoxy coatings. The effect of dispersed G on anticorrosion performance of epoxy coatings was evaluated. The composite coatings displayed outstanding barrier properties against H20 molecule compared to the neat epoxy coating. Open circuit potential （OCP）, Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） analysis confirmed that the corrosion rate exhibited by composite coatings with 0.5 wt% G was an order of magnitude lower than that of neat epoxy coating. Salt spray test results revealed superior corrosion resistance offered by the composite coating.

Electro-catalytic degradation of sulfisoxazole by using graphene anode

Graphite and graphene electrodes were prepared by using pure graphite as precursor. The electrode materials were characterized by a scanning electron microscope（SEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD） and cyclic voltammetry（CV） measurements. The electro-catalytic activity for degradation of sulfisoxazole（SIZ） was investigated by using prepared graphene or graphite anode. The results showed that the degradation of SIZ was much more rapid on the graphene than that on the graphite electrode. Moreover, the graphene electrode exhibited good stability and recyclability. The analysis on the intermediate products and the measurement of active species during the SIZ degradation demonstrated that indirect oxidation is the dominant mechanism, involving the electro-catalytic generation of OH and O_2^- as the main active oxygen species. This study implies that graphene is a promising potential electrode material for long-term application to electro-catalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

Peripheral nerve injuries are common in clinical practice because of traumas such as crushing and sectioning. Lesions of the nerve structure result in lost or diminished sensitivity and/or motor activity in the innervated territory. The degree of lesion depends on the specific nerve involved, the magnitude and type of pres- sure exerted, and the duration of the compression. The results of such injuries commonly include axonal degeneration and retro- grade degeneration of the corresponding neurons in the spinal medulla, followed by very slow regeneration （Rochkind et al., 2001）. The adverse effects on the daily activities of patients with a peripheral nerve injury are a determining factor in establishing the goals of early recovery （Rodriguez et al., 2004）.

Dietary iron regulates intestinal goblet cell function and alleviates Salmonella typhimurium invasion in mice

Iron is an important micronutrient that plays a vital role in host defenses and bacterial pathogenicity. As iron treatments increase the risk of infection by stimulating the growth and virulence of bacterial pathogens, their roles in anti-infection immunity have frequently been underestimated. To estimate whether adequate dietary iron intake would help defend against pathogenic bacterial infection, mice were fed iron-deficient(2 mg kg-1feed), iron-sufficient(35 mg kg-1feed), or iron-enriched diet(350 mg kg-1feed) for 12 weeks, followed by oral infection with Salmonella typhimurium. Our results revealed that dietary iron intake improved mucus layer function and decelerated the invasion of the pathogenic bacteria, Salmonella typhimurium. Positive correlations between serum iron and the number of goblet cells and mucin2 were found in response to total iron intake in *** iron in the intestinal tract affected the gut microbiota composition, and the abundance of Bacteroidales, family Muribaculaceae, was positively correlated with their mucin2 expression. However, the results from antibiotic-treated mice showed that the dietary iron-regulated mucin layer function was not microbial-dependent. Furthermore, in vitro studies revealed that ferric citrate directly induced mucin2 expression and promoted the proliferation of goblet cells in both ileal and colonic organoids. Thus, dietary iron intake improves serum iron levels, regulates goblet cell regeneration and mucin layer function, and plays a positive role in the prevention of pathogenic bacteria.

The objective of this study was to examine the early serum proteomic and inflammatory profiles of weaned piglets subjected to iron *** healthy piglets(Duroc×Landrace×Large Yorkshire,body weight:4.96±0.05 kg)were weaned at 21 days of ***,these animals were randomly allocated to one of two groups,with six replicates in each group(maintaining a male-to-female ratio of 1:1),the control group(administered 100 mg/kg Fe as FeSO_(4)·H_(2)O)and L-Fe group(no additional Fe supplementation).The results showed that 42 days after initiating,compared with control group,routine blood analysis revealed a reduction in serum iron content,red blood cell(RBC)count,hemoglobin(HGB)content,hematocrit(HCT),and mean corpuscular volume(MCV)(P 0.05).During the early stages of iron deficiency,piglets exhibited increased villus height(VH)and the ratio of VH to crypt depth(CD)in the duodenum(P<0.05)and increased expression levels of iron transporters,including duodenal cytochrome(Cybrd),divalent metal transport 1(DMT1),and ferritin light chain(FTL)(P<0.05).Subsequently,isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation(iTRAQ)were used to identify serum *** Ontology(GO)analysis of the differentially abundant proteins(DAP)revealed that 24 of the 30 DAP were involved in platelet function,immune response,cellular metabolism,transcription,and protein ***,prothrombin,asporin(ASPN),and Rac family small GTPase 3(RAC3)expression was induced,whereas glycoprotein Ib platelet subunit alpha(GPIbA)expression was *** was accompanied by a substantial reduction in serum complement 3(C3)and complement 4(C4)contents(P<0.05),with elevated the contents of interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-4(IL-4),interleukin-6(IL-6),transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)(P<0.05).Our findings underscore the essential role of dietary iron supplementation in maintaining iron homeostasis and modulating inflammatory responses in piglets.

An Investigation into the Emotional Barriers of College Students in English Learning

1 INTRODUCTION College students have all the affects which human being has. Their affects are conservative, undulate, plentiful, impulsive and different from each other. The affects can be divided into three parts： active, moderate and negative affects（Yu Xia, 1999）. This shows the college students are in a period of time in which they are greatly nagged by vexations that mainly originate from the negative affects, caused by themselves or people around them. The negative affects may lead to a lot of barriers which prevents the language learning according to the emotional Filter Hypothesis by Krashen.

Role of iron in host-microbiota interaction and its effects on intestinal mucosal growth and immune plasticity in a piglet model

Iron is an essential trace element for both the host and resident microbes in the gut. In this study, iron was administered orally and parenterally to anemic piglets to investigate the role of iron in host-microbiota interaction and its effects on intestinal mucosal growth and immune plasticity. We found that oral iron administration easily increased the abundance of Proteobacteria and Escherichia-Shigella, and decreased the abundance of Lactobacillus in the ileum. Furthermore, similar bacterial changes, namely an increase in Proteobacteria, Escherichia-Shigella, and Fusobacterium and a reduction in the Christensenellaceae_R-7_group,were observed in the colon of both iron-supplemented groups. Spearman's correlation analysis indicated that the changed Fusobacterium, Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria in the colon were positively correlated with hemoglobin, colon and spleen iron levels. Nevertheless, it was found that activated m TOR1 signaling, improved villous height and crypt depth in the ileum,enhanced immune communication, and increased protein expression of IL-22 and IL-10 in the colon of both iron-supplemented groups. In conclusion, the benefits of improved host iron outweigh the risks of altered gut microbiota for intestinal mucosal growth and immune regulation in treating iron deficiency anemia.

Degradation of organic pollutants by a Co_3O_4 -graphite composite electrode in an electro-Fenton-like system

A novel composite electrode was constructed by pressing together Co3O4 and graphite and it was used as the cathode in an electro-Fenton-like (EFL) system. The poor electron transport characteristic of Co3O4 was overcome by incorporating graphite. In situ electro-catalytic generation of hydroxyl radicals (·OH) occurred at high current efficiencies from pH 2-10, extending the traditional Fenton reaction pH range. Cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance spectrometry were used to characterize the composite electrode. The ability of the EFL system to degrade organic compounds was investigated using sulforhodamine B (SRB) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) as probes. Decoloration of SRB (1.0×10-5 mol/L) was complete (100%) in 150 min and SRB was effectively degraded from pH 2-10. The decomposition of SRB was studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and total organic carbon (TOC) analysis and results indicated that the final degradation products were carbon dioxide, carboxylic acids and amines. The EFL system also decomposed 2,4-DCP and the degradation was 98.6% in 240 min. Electro-catalytic degradation of SRB occurs by a ·OH mechanism. After 5 times reused, the degradation rate of SRB did not significantly slow down. The electrode shows excellent potential for use in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) used to treat persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in wastewater.

An Integrated Anti-Fouling and Anti-Corrosion Coating Enabled by rGO/AgNPs and Amphiphilic Networks

Marine corrosion and biofouling are challenges that affect marine industrial equipment,and protecting equipment with functional coatings is a simple and effective ***,it is extremely difficult to combine anti-corrosion and anti-fouling properties in a single *** this work,we combine reduced graphene oxide(rGO)/silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)with a hydrophilic polymer in a bio-based silicone-epoxy resin to create a coating with both anti-fouling and anti-corrosion *** excel-lent anti-fouling performance of the coating results from a ternary synergistic mechanism involving foul-ing release,contact inhibition,and a hydration effect,while the outstanding anti-corrosion performance is provided by a ternary synergistic anti-corrosion mechanism that includes a dense interpenetrating net-work(IPN)structure,a barrier effect,and *** results show that the obtained coating pos-sesses superior anti-fouling activity against protein,bacteria,algae,and other marine organisms,as well as excellent anti-corrosion and certain self-healing properties due to its dynamic cross-linked net-work of rGO/AgNPs and the hydrophilic *** work provides an anti-corrosion and anti-fouling integrated coating for marine industrial equipment.
