Surface electromyography for diagnosing dysphagia in patients with cerebral palsy

AIM: To determine the accuracy of 2-channel surface electromyography(sE MG) for diagnosing oropharyngeal dysphagia(OPD) in patients with cerebral ***: Participants with cerebral palsy and OPD between 5 and 30 years of age and age- and sexmatched healthy individuals received s EMG testing during swallowing. Electrodes were placed over the submental and infrahyoid muscles, and s EMG recordings were made during stepwise(starting at 3 mL) determination of maximum swallowing volume. Outcome measures included submental muscle group maximum amplitude, infrahyoid muscle group maximum amplitude(IMGMA), time lag between the peak amplitudes of 2 muscle groups, and amplitude difference between the 2 muscle ***: A total of 20 participants with cerebral palsy and OPD(OPD group) and 60 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers(control group) were recruited. Among 20 patients with OPD, 19 had Dysphagia Outcome and Severity Scale records. Of them, 8 were classified as severe dysphagia(level 1), 1 was moderate dysphagia(level 3), 4 were mild to moderate dysphagia(level 4), 3 were mild dysphagia(level 5), and 3 were within functional limits(level 6). Although the groups were matched for age and sex, participants in the OPD group were significantly shorter, weighed less and had lower body mass index than their counterparts in the control group(both, P < 0.001). All s EMG parameter values were significantly higher in the OPD group compared with the control group(P < 0.05). Differences were most pronounced at the 3 mL swallowing volume. IMGMA at the 3 mL volume was the best predictor of OPD with a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of 85.0%, 90.0%, 73.9%, 94.7% and 88.8%, respectively.

Micro-strain regulation strategy to stabilize perovskite lattice based on the categories and impact of strain on perovskite solar cells

Photovoltaic metal halide perovskite solar cells(PSCs) convert light to electricity more efficiently than crystalline silicon cells, and the cost of materials used to make them is lower than that of silicon *** efficiency is not a core issue affecting the application of perovskite solar cells in special *** present, stability is the major technical encounters that hinders its further commercial development. Microstrain in PSCs is currently a significant factor responsible for the device's instability. Strain-induced ion migration is widely believed to accelerate perovskite degradation even when external stimuli are ***, it is imperative to study strain to enhance the stability of PSCs. This paper reviews recent developments to understand strain's origin and effect mechanisms on performance of PSCs, including ion migration,failure behavior, defect formation, and its effect on photoelectric properties, stability, and ***, several well-known strain management strategies are systematically introduced based on the strain effect mechanism and strain engineering on the film, providing more clues for further preparation with increased stability. The manipulation of external physical strain applied from films to entire devices has been extensively studied. Furthermore, recommendations for future research directions and chemical approaches have been provided. It is emphasized that strain engineering plays a crucial role in improving the efficiency and longevity of PSCs. Tensile strain causes rapid degradation, while moderate compressive strain and external strain control could improve properties and stability. Efforts should focus on controlling compressive strain to mitigate residual tensile strain and introducing it in a controlled manner. Future research endeavors may focus on exploring these pathways to improve the efficiency and lifespan of PSCs.

Theoretical Study on Reaction Mechanism of Aluminum-Water System

A theoretical study on the reaction of aluminum with water in the gas phase was performed using the hybrid density functional B3LYP and QCISD（T） methods with the 6-311＋G（d,p） and the 6-311＋＋G（d,p） basis sets. The results show that there are three possible reaction pathways that involve four isomers, seven transition structures, and two possible products for the reaction of aluminum with water. The two most favorable reaction pathways were found, whose intermediates and products agreed quite well with experimental results. The enthalpy and Gibbs free energy change of the reaction between A1 and H2O at 298 and 2000 K were calculated. Some results are also in good agreement with the previous calculations or experimental results.

Integrating Factors and Conservation Theorems of Lagrangian Equations for Nonconservative Mechanical System in Generalized Classical Mechanics

The conservation theorems of the generalized Lagrangian equations for nonconservative mechanical system are studied by using method of integrating factors. Firstly, the differential equations of motion of system are given, and the definition of integrating factors is given. Next, the necessary conditions for the existence of the conserved quantity are studied in detail. Finally, the conservation theorem and its inverse for the system are established, and an example is given to illustrate the application of the result.

Effect of Oxalic Acid on Potassium Release from Typical Chinese Soils and Minerals

Oxalic acid plays an important role in improving the bioavailability of soil nutrients. Batch experiments were employed to examine the influences of oxalic acid on extraction and release kinetics of potassium （K） from soils and minerals along with the adsorption and desorption of soil K^＋. The soils and minerals used were three typical Chinese soils, black soil （Mollisol）, red soil （Ultisol）, and calcareous alluvial soil （Entisol）, and four K-bearing minerals, biotite, phlogopite, muscovite, and microcline. The results showed that soil K extracted using 0.2 mol L^-1 oxalic acid was similar to that using 1 mol L^-1 boiling HNO3. The relation between K release （y） and concentrations of oxalic acid （c） could be best described logarithmically as y = a ＋ blogc, while the best-fit kinetic equation of K release was y = a ＋ b√t, where a and b are the constants and t is the elapsed time. The K release for minerals was ranked as biotite 〉 phlogopite 〉〉 muscovite 〉 microcline and for soils it was in the order： black soil 〉 calcareous alluvial soil 〉 red soil. An oxalic acid solution with low pH was able to release more K from weathered minerals and alkaline soils. Oxalic acid decreased the soil K^＋ adsorption and increased the soil K^＋ desorption, the effect of which tended to be greater at lower solution pH, especially in the red soil.

Torin2 overcomes sorafenib resistance via suppressing mTORC2-AKT-BAD pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Background:Sorafenib is an oral multi-kinase inhibitor that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,resistance to sorafenib is an urgent problem to be resolved to improve the therapeutic efficacy of *** the activation of AKT/mTOR played a pivotal role in sorafenib resistance,we evaluated the effect of a dual mTOR complex 1/2 inhibitor Torin2 on overcoming the sorafenib resistance in HCC ***:The sorafenib-resistant Huh7 and Hep3B cell lines were established from their parental cell *** synergistic effect of sorafenib and Torin2 on these cells was measured by cell viability assay and quantified using the Chou-Talalay *** induced by the combination of sorafenib and Torin2 and the alteration in the specific signaling pathways of interest were detected by Western ***:Sorafenib treatment inversely inhibited AKT in parental but activated AKT in sorafenib-resistant Huh7 and Hep3B HCC cells,which underscores the significance of AKT ***2 and sorafenib synergistically suppressed the viability of sorafenib-resistant cells via apoptosis ***2 successfully suppressed the sorafenib-activated mTORC2-AKT axis,leading to the dephosphorylation of Ser136 in BAD protein,and increased the expression of total BAD,which contributed to the apoptosis in sorafenibresistant HCC ***:In this study,Torin2 and sorafenib showed synergistic cytostatic capacity in sorafenibresistant HCC cells,via the suppression of mTORC2-AKT-BAD *** results suggest a novel strategy of drug combination for overcoming sorafenib resistance in HCC.

Management of persistent pulmonary hypertension in newborns with ECMO support: a single center's experience

Background To summarize the experience of management of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) *** We presented three neonates with PPHN supported by ECMO in our *** records and patient management notes were retrospectively *** For two neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH),diaphragm repair surgery was done under ECMO *** patient was weaned from ECMO after 73 hours,and recovered well at the last follow-up after 1 *** other patient was weaned from ECMO after 167 hours,and he died from septic shock 21 days after *** the neonate with idiopathic PPHN,ECMO was withdrawn *** ECMO is an effective rescue means for refractory *** intervention timing,accurate coagulation,and volume management are important.

Stochastic Resonance in a Bacterium Growth System Subjected to Colored Noises

We present the logistic growth model to study the stochastic resonance （SR） in a bacterium growth system under the simultaneous action of two external multiplicative cross-correlation noises and periodic external forcing. The expression of the signal-to-noise ratio （SNR） for a bacterium growth system is derived by using the theory of SNR in the adiabatic limit. Based on SNR, we discuss the effects of self-correlation time τ1 and τ2, cross-correlation time 3-3 and cross-correlation strength λ on the SNR. It is found that the self-correlation time τ1 and τ2, and cross-correlation strength λ enhance the SR of the bacterium growth system, while cross-correlation time τ3 weakens the SR of the bacterium growth system.
