Surface Wettability and Chemistry of Oz.ne Perfusion Processed Porous Collagen Scaffold

Crosslinking treatment of collagen has often been used to improve the biological stability and mechanical properties of 3D porous collagen scaffolds. However, accompanying these improvements, the collagen fibril surface becomes hydrophobic nature resulting in a reduced surface wettability. The wetting of the collagen fibril by culture medium is reduced and it is difficult for the medium to diffuse into the 3D structure of a porous collagen scaffold. This paper reports a ＂perfusion processing＂ strategy using oz.ne to improve the surface wettability of chemical crosslinked collagen scaffolds. Surface wettability, surface composition and biological stability were analyz.d to evaluate the effectiveness of this surface processing strategy. It was observed that oz.ne perfusion processing improved surface wettability for both exterior and interior surfaces of the porous 3D collagen scaffold. The improvement in wettability is attributed to the incorporation of oxygen-containing functional groups onto the surface of the collagen fibrils, as confirmed by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy （XPS） analysis. This leads to a significant improvement in water taking capability without compromising the bulk biological stability and mechanical properties, and confirms that oz.ne perfusion processing is an effective tool to modify the wettability both for interior and exterior surfaces throughout the scaffold.

We construct and analyz. a family of semi-discretiz.d difference schemes with two parameters for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. The scheme possesses the first four near-conserved quantities for periodic boundary conditions. The existence and the convergence of its global solution in Sobolev space L-infinity(0,T;H-3) are proved and the scheme is also stable about initial values. Furthermore, the scheme conserves exactly the first two conserved quantities in the special case.

Interfacial bonding mechanism in Al/coated steel dissimilar refill friction stir spot welds

Defect-free dissimilar Al/z.nc coated steel and Al/AlSi coated steel welds were successfully fabricated by refill friction stir spot welding. However, Al alloy and uncoated steel could not be welded under the same welding condition. Al-z. eutectic layer formed at the Al/z.nc coated steel interface showed nonuniformity in thickness and nanoscale intermetallic(IMC) produced was discontinuous. The bonding formation between the Al-z. layer and the surrounding materials was attributed to a liquid/solid reaction mechanism. Bonding formation at Al alloy and AlSi coated steel interface was attributed to a solid/solid reaction mechanism, as the joining process did not involve with melting of base metals or AlSi coating materials. Kissing bond formed at the weld boundary acted as a crack initiation and propagation site,and the present study showed that weld strength of Al 5754/AlSi coated steel was greatly influenced by properties of original IMC layer.

Transient Characteristics and Accommodative Current Limiting Strategy for Bidirectional Interlinking Converters in Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids

Bidirectional interlinking converter(BIC)is the core equipment in a hybrid AC/DC microgrid connected between AC and DC ***,the variety of control modes and flexible bidirectional power flow complicate the influence of AC faults on BIC itself and on DC sub-grid,which potentially threaten both converter safety and system *** study first investigates AC fault influence on the BIC and DC bus voltage under different BIC control modes and different pre-fault operation states,by developing a mathematical model and equivalent sequence ***,based on the analysis results,a general accommodative current limiting strategy is proposed for BIC without limitations to specific mode or operation *** amplitude is predicted and constrained according to the critical requirements to protect the BIC and relieving the AC fault influence on the DC bus *** with conventional methods,potential current limit failure and distortions under asymmetric faults can also be ***,experiments verify feasibility of the proposed method.

Electrocaloric devices part Ⅰ:Analytical solution of one-dimensional transient heat conduction in a multilayer electrocaloric system

An Approach to Quantify the Heat Wave Strength and Price a Heat Derivative for Risk Hedging

Mitigating the heat stress via a derivative policy is a vital financial option for agricultural producers and other business sectors to strategically adapt to the climate change scenario. This study has provided an approach to identifying heat stress events and pricing the heat stress weather derivative due to persistent days of high surface air temperature （SAT）. Cooling degree days （CDD） are used as the weather index for trade. In this study, a call-option model was used as an example for calculating the price of the index. Two heat stress indices were developed to describe the severity and physical impact of heat waves. The daily Global Historical Climatology Network （GHCN-D） SAT data from 1901 to 2007 from the southern California, USA, were used. A major California heat wave that occurred 20-25 October 1965 was studied. The derivative price was calculated based on the call-option model for both long-term station data and the interpolated grid point data at a regular 0.1~ x0.1~ latitude-longitude grid. The resulting comparison indicates that （a） the interpolated data can be used as reliable proxy to price the CDD and （b） a normal distribution model cannot always be used to reliably calculate the CDD price. In conclusion, the data, models, and procedures described in this study have potential application in hedging agricultural and other risks.

Fluxing Agents on Ceramification of Composites of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2/Boron Phenolic Resin

Fluxing agents of z.nc borate, antimony oxide, galss frit A and glass frit B, with different melting or softening point temperatures, were added into MgO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2/boron phenol formaldehyde resin（MAS/BPF） composites to lower the formation temperature of eutectic liquid phase and promote the ceramification of ceramifiable composites. The effects of fluxing agents on the thermogravimetric properties, phase evolution, and microstructure evolution of MAS/BPF composites were characteriz.d by TG-DSC, XRD and SEM analyses. The results reveal that the addition of a fluxing agent highly reduces the decomposition rate of MAS/BPF composites. Fluxing agents lower the formation temperatures of liquid phases of ceramifiable MAS/BPF composites obviously, and then promote the ceramification and densification process. The final residues of composites are ceramic surrounded by large amount of glass phases.

Effects of radiation-induced crosslinking on thermal and mechanical properties of poly（lactic acid） composites reinforced by basalt fiber

Poly(lactic acid)/ basalt fiber (PLA/BF) composites were prepared by melt blending with a cross-linking agent, triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC). The thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated through gel fraction, heat defection temperature (HDT), tensile tests and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Under certain conditions, the HDT of composites was dramatically increased to 140°C after irradiation. Tensile properties were enhanced as well. Both these improvements were consistent with changes of the fracture morphology. Compatibiliz.tion and concomitant enhancement of the interfacial adhesive between the polymer matrix and the inorganic fiber were achieved as seen from SEM photos, as a result of the formation of co-crosslinking and grafting structures at the interface according to the determination of gelation extraction. © 2013, Science Press. Additive manufacturing of antibacterial PLA-z.O nanocomposites:Benefits,limitations and open challenges
