Effect of Signal Filtering on Image Quality of Projection-Based Magnetic Particle Imaging

Purpose: Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) allows for imaging of th. spatial distribution of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) in positive contrast, with.h.gh.sensitivity, h.gh.spatial resolution, and h.gh.imaging speed. It is necessary to increase th. signal-to-noise ratio to enh.nce th. reliability of MPI. Th. purpose of th.s study was to investigate th. effect of signal filtering on th. image quality and quantitativity in projection-based MPI using ph.ntoms. Materials and Meth.ds: We fabricated two kinds of ph.ntom (cylindrical tube ph.ntom with.a diameter of 6 mm and A-sh.ped ph.ntom) and evaluated th. effect of signal filtering in terms of root-mean-square (RMS) granularity and th. correlation coefficient between iron concentrations of MNPs and average MPI values for four filter modes (Th.U, BPF, BEF, and LPF). In th. Th.U mode, th. signal input was output with.ut passing th.ough.th. filter. In th. BPF mode, only th. th.rd-h.rmonic signal was passed using a band-pass filter (central frequency: 1200 h., band width. 1/3 octave). In th. BEF mode, th. first-h.rmonic signal was eliminated using a band-elimination filter (central frequency: 400 h., band width. 1/3 octave). In th. LPF mode, only th. signal with.a frequency less th.n th. th.rd-h.rmonic frequency was passed using a low-pass filter (cut-off frequency: 1200 h., -24 ± 2 dB/octave). Th. RMS granularity was obtained by calculating standard deviations of th. pixel values in th. MPI image with.ut MNPs, wh.reas average MPI values were obtained by drawing a circular region of interest with.a diameter of 6 mm on th. MPI image of th. cylindrical tube ph.ntom. Results: Wh.n using th. filtered back-projection (FBP) meth.d with.a ramp filter for image reconstruction, th. RMS granularity and correlation coefficient decreased in th. order of Th.U, BPF, BEF, and LPF. In th. BPF mode, h.wever, some artifacts were observed. Lock-in-Amplifier Model for Analyzing th. Beh.vior of Signal h.rmonics in Magnetic Particle Imaging

Th. purpose of th.s study was to present a lock-in-amplifier model for analyzing th. beh.vior of signal h.rmonics in magnetic particle imaging (MPI) and some simulation results based on th.s model. In th. lock-in-amplifier model, th. signal induced by magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) in a receiving coil was multiplied with.a reference signal, and was th.n fed th.ough.a low-pass filter to extract th. DC component of th. signal (output signal). Th. MPI signal was defined as th. mean of th. absolute value of th. output signal. Th. magnetization and particle size distribution of MNPs were assumed to obey th. Langevin th.ory of paramagnetism and a log-normal distribution, respectively, and th. strength.of th. selection magnetic field (SMF) in MPI was assumed to be given by th. product of th. gradient strength.of th. SMF and th. distance from th. field-free region (x). In addition, Gaussian noise was added to th. signal induced by MNPs using normally-distributed random numbers. Th. relationsh.ps between th. MPI signal and x were calculated for th. odd- and even-numbered h.rmonics and were investigated for various time constants of th. low-pass filter used in th. lock-in amplifier and particle sizes and th.ir distributions of MNPs. We found th.t th. beh.vior of th. MPI signal largely depended on th. time constant of th. low-pass filter and th. particle size of MNPs. Th.s lock-in-amplifier model will be useful for better understanding, optimizing, and developing MPI, and for designing MNPs appropriate for MPI.

BACKGROUND A righ.-sided round ligament(RSRL)is a rare,congenital anomaly of th. intrah.patic portal vein,with.a reported frequency of 0.2%-1.2%.For patients with.perih.lar ch.langiocarcinoma associated with.an RSRL,an accurate understanding of th. vascular and biliary anatomy is *** SUMMARY We report a 70-year-old male with.perih.lar ch.langiocarcinoma associated with.an *** percutaneous transh.patic embolization of th. left and anterior portal branch.s,we conducted a left trisectionectomy of th. liver with.extrah.patic bile duct resection and *** postoperative course was uneventful,and R0 resection was *** th. liver volume of each.section was compared between 7 patients with.an RSRL and 20 patients with.normal portal vein anatomy,th. posterior section in RSRL patients was significantly larger th.n th.t in patients with.normal portal vein anatomy(median:457 mL vs 306 mL,P=0.031).In patients with.perih.lar ch.langiocarcinoma associated with.an RSRL,left trisectionectomy h.s several surgical advantages:(1)Th. posterior branch.of th. portal vein often ramifies independently,and th. division of th. portal vein is easily conducted;(2)A relatively large amount of remnant liver can be retained;and(3)Th. anatomy of th. posterior branch.of th. Th.s paper describes an asymmetric control meth.d for th. firing angle and a start/stop timing sh.ft control of four th.ristor converters called ＂Booster PS＂ to minimize th. reactive power fluctuation during plasma initiation in JT-60SA. From th. simulation using th. ＂PSCAD/EMTDC＂ code, it is found th.t th.se control meth.ds can drastically reduce th. reac- tive power induced by th. four units of th. ＂Booster PS＂. In addition, th. voltage fluctuation of th. motor-generator connected to th. ＂Booster PS＂ is expected to be suppressed. Th.s can also contribute to ach.eve stable control of th. JT-60SA magnet power supplies.

Dear Editor,MPL is a cytokine receptor th.t regulates th. production of myeloid cells,in particular megakaryocytes and platelets(Kaush.nsky,2005).Dimerization of MPL is important not only for th. initiation of signalling(Kaush.nsky,2005)but also for th. resistance to a recent th.rapy for myeloproliferative neoplasms(Koppikar et al.,2012).In th. current model,cytokine receptors exist as a mixture of monomers and dimers with.ut ligand stimulation,wh.le ligand binding induces additional receptor dimerization(Kaush.nsky,2005).

外周神经母细胞性肿瘤（periph.ralneuroblastictumors，pNT）由神经母细胞瘤（neuroblastoma）、节细胞性神经母细胞瘤（ganglioneuroblastoma，GNB）和节细胞神经瘤（ganglioneuroma，GN）组成，是起源于交感神经系统的胚胎性肿瘤，也是儿童最常见的颅外恶性实体瘤。据报道，美国每年新增pNT诊断病例约有650例，病死率占儿童恶性肿瘤的15％。pNT的临床生物学行为具有高度异质性，预后取决于患儿诊断时的年龄、临床分期、组织学类型以及特异性遗传学异常情况。

Th. Key Factor of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) in th. h.story of th. Contribution of Mining Industry to th. Prosperity of th. United States and South.Africa: A Review

Mining industry h.s significantly contributed to th. prosperity of th. nation with.economic growth. wh.reas mining operation h.s caused Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) with.th. abandonment of mines. As some research.rs suggest, th. h.story of AMD is, generally, affected by th. ch.nge in not only mining industry but also in social and economic conditions. Th.s, h.storical analysis is an effective way to find th. key factors of AMD. In th.s study, in order to find th. key factors of AMD, we examine th. h.story of th. United States (U.S.) and South.Africa, wh.re th.ir economy h.d been developed owing to th. large-scale mining, based on th. findings in th. previous studies. Th. results indicated th.t th. abandoned mines due to th. economic depression triggered AMD in th. U.S. and South.Africa. Wh.le th. U.S. h.d progressively adopted anti-AMD meth.ds in terms of prevention, prediction, and remediation (PPR) as a compreh.nsive approach. especially since th. 1970s onwards because of th. rise of environmental consciousness as well as strict regulations, South.Africa is at th. early stage of implementing th. regulations following PPR. Th. public attention sh.uld be directed to environmental conservation in addition to th. implementation of th. regulations in South.Africa. Th. improvement in socio-economic conditions is, additionally, necessary for th. rise of environmental consciousness in South.Africa in th. ligh. of th. th.ee pillars of sustainable development: social, economic, and environmental elements.
