Protein Mediated Silica Particles with pH Controlled Porosity and Morphology

Background: The silica leaching activity of some of the mystifying non-pathogenic BKH1 bacteria present in the cluster of hot springs (temperatures range 35°C - 80°C) at Bakreshwar (West Bengal, India, 23°52'48"N;87°22'40"N) has provided some significant advancements in the field of nanotechnology. The present investigation was designed to synthesis the silica particles using bioremediase protein at different pH conditions. Methods: A secretary bacterial protein bioremediase (UniProt Knowledgebase Accession Number P86277) isolated from a thermophilic non-pathogenic bacterium BKH1 (GenBank Accession No. FJ177512) has been used to synthesis the silica particles at different pH conditions (pH at 3.0, 5.0, 8.0, 10.0, and 12.0 respectively). The silica particles were synthesized by the action of bioremediase protein on Tetra-ethyl-orthosilicate (TEOS) under ambient condition. Morphological and compositional studies of the biosynthesized silica particles were characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) equipped with Energy dispersive X-ray analyser (EDX). Results: The Fourier transformed infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopic analysis confirmed the nature as well as occurrence of several functional groups surrounded on the silica particles. The amorphous nature of the prepared silica particles was confirmed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) study. The Zeta potential (ζ) study revealed the stability of silica particles in neutral pH environment. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement confirmed the porosity variation in all biosynthesized silica particles prepared at different pH conditions. Raman spectra analytically depend on their respective specific surface (BET) area. Thermogravimetry tool was used to monitor the effects of the thermal treatment on the surface properties of all the samples. Root Extracts (Gymnadenia orchidisLindl) Facilitated Rapid Synthesis of Fluorescent Silver Nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) for Various Biological Applications

One pot rapid and green bio-synthesis of stable fluorescent silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) from silver nitrate solution using root extract of Gymnadenia orchidis Lindlat at ambient temperature is demonstrated productively. Surface Plasmon resonance of the synthesized Ag-NPs was shown to occur at 439 nm and two sharp fluorescence peaks at 610 and 780 nm were observed. FTIR study publicized the presence of chemically functional groups in the root extract surrounding the Ag-NPs, acting as stabilizers. XRD and FESEM analysis revealed that Ag-NPs were face centred cubic structure being spherical in shape with an average particle size of 28 ± 2 nm (n = 100). The stability of Ag-NPs in neutral pH environment was confirmed by Zeta Potential (ζ) behaviour. The Ag-NPs showed superior antioxidant activity. The notable photo-catalytic activity of biosynthesized Ag-NPs attributed to the existence of some proteins, responsible for degradation of methylene blue dye. Furthermore, Ag-NPs were found to exhibit a significant antibacterial effect against gram positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria.

Study of Structural and Dielectrical Properties of Lead Free Polycrystalline Electro Ceramics Ba5CaTi2Nb8O30(BCTN) for Microwave Tunable Device Applications

Tungsten bronze structure ceramics have found vital potential in many applications such as actuators, transducer, electro-optic, ferroelectric random access memory and microwave devices. These type ceramics are extensively used in many industrial applications due to their spontaneous polarization and well-known for its high dielectric constant, low dielectric loss, low leakage current density, good thermal stability and high piezoelectric coefficient. In present work, Ba5CaTi2Nb8O30 (BCTN) has been synthesized first time through solid state reaction method. The microstructures, dielectric, ferroelectric, ferromagnetic and Raman spectra have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), LCR meter, P-E loop tracer, VSM and Raman spectrometer respectively. X-ray dif-fraction study revealed the formation of single phase tetragonal structure with space group P4bm. The crystallite size was observed to be in the range 14.4 nm. Detailed dielectric properties of BCTN compound as function of temperature at different frequencies show that sample exhibits diffuse type transition at curie temperature 316°C. The P-E and M-H studies confirmed the coexistent ferroelectricity and magnetism at room temperature.

Unicentric Castleman’s Disease Presenting as Retroperitoneal Pelvic Lymph Node in Young Female—Laparoscopic Excision: A Case Report

Unicentric Castleman’s disease (UCD) is localized lymphoproliferative disease and has favourable prognosis. Surgery offers complete cure of unicentric Castleman disease. Radiotherapy offers either complete response or variable clinical response and cure in selected patients. The present case report is of a young unmarried obese girl presented with pain in right iliac fossa for 2 months. On pelvic ultrasound and MRI performed for diagnosis only single enlarged right external iliac lymph node was the positive finding. The CT scan guided biopsy was performed and the histopathological finding was lymphoid lesion-reactive lymphoid hyperplasia is favoured over Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Successful laparoscopic complete excisional surgery was performed for this single enlarged external iliac lymph node. The final histopathological report of the lymph node removed was unicentric Castleman’s disease, hyaline vascular type. This is the 16th such reported case of pelvic retroperitoneal UCD of hyaline vascular type treated by surgical excision, and 3rd case treated by Laparoscopic excisional surgery. By now at the time of reporting this case 4 months of follow up has been completed and patient does not have any symptom nor not show any sign of residual disease locally on transabdominal ultrasound examination and whole-body PET CT scan is also normal.

Rh Isoimmunized Pregnancy—Do Maternal Antibody Titre Always Correlate with the Fetal Affection? A Non-Invasive Management

This case is of Rh -ve 2nd gravida having antibody titre detected 1:2 at 8 weeks of 2nd pregnancy. Serial antibody titre carried out along with clinical examination. Fetal monitoring was done by assessing MCA-PSV (Middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity) and CTG (Cardiotocograph) when required. Pregnancy was terminated when the titre reached 1:512 at 34 wks of pregnancy with abnormal MCA-PSV values. Neonate just had begun to show sign of anaemia & haemolysis at birth.
