The Variation of Plankton Community Structure in Artificial Reef Area and Adjacent Waters in Haizhou Bay

Plankton are an important component of marine protected areas(MPAs),and its communities would require much smaller interpatch distances to ensure connection among MPAs.According to the survey from MPAs dominated by artificial reefs and adjacent waters(estuary area(EA),aquaculture area(AA),artificial reef area(ARA),natural area(NA)and comprehensive effect area(CEA))in Haizhou Bay in spring and autumn,we analyzed phyto-zooplankton composition,abundance and biomass,and correlation with hydrologic variables to gain information about the forces that structure the plankton.The results showed that the dominant zooplankton were copepods(spring,98.9%;autumn,94.2%),while the phytoplankton were mainly composed of Bacillariophyta(spring,61.8%;autumn,95.6%).The RDA results showed that temperature,salinity and depth highly associated with the distribution and composition of plankton species among the habitats than other factors in spring;temperature,Chla and DO had the strongest influence in autumn.The zooplankton in the ARA and AA ecosystems basically contained the same species as those in other habitats,and each habitat also exhibited a relatively unique combination of plankton species.The structures of the EA zooplankton in spring and the EA phytoplankton in both seasons were much different than other habitats,which may have been caused by factors such as currents and tides.We concluded that there exists similarity of the plankton community between artificial reef area and adjacent waters,whereas the EAs may be relatively independent systems.Therefore,these interaction between plankton community should be considered when designing MPA networks,and ocean circulations should be considered more than the environmental factors.

Heterogeneous reaction of mineral aerosols and atmospheric polluting gases play an important role in atmospheric chemistry.In this study,the reactions of NO_(2) with or without SO_(2) mixture gas on the surface of α-Fe_(2)O_(3) particles under dry conditions were studied.The effects of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)and the heterogeneous reaction under both dark and UV irradiation conditions were investigated.The infrared spectrum analyzed by the two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy(2D-COS)was used to obtain the products formation sequences.The results showed that UV irradiation can promote the production of nitrate.The 2D-COS analysis indicated SDS changed the sequence order of nitrate and nitrite species during reactions.In oxidation conditions,the final product of heterogeneous reaction of NO_(2) and α-Fe_(2)O_(3) was monodentate nitrate.Only the heterogenous reaction of NO_(2) and α-Fe_(2)O_(3) containing SDS(FOS)without UV light,the final product was bidentate nitrate.SDS was the catalysis agent supply and photoresist to the system.With surface active compounds,the environmental lifetime of heterogeneous reactions between trace gases and aerosols extends.Surfactants,ultraviolet light,and the types of gases involved in the reaction all have complex effects on the aerosol aging process.This study provided a reference for subsequent heterogeneous reaction studies and the formation of aerosols.

The molybdenum(Mo)isotope system is pivotal in reconstructing marine redox changes throughout Earth’s history and has emerged as a promising tracer for igneous and metamorphic processes.Understanding its composition and variation across major geochemical reservoirs is essential for its application in investigating high-temperature processes.However,there is debate regarding theδ^(98/95)Mo value of the Earth’s mantle,with estimates ranging from sub-chondritic to super-chondritic values.Recent analyses of global mid-ocean ridge basalt(MORB)glasses revealed significantδ^(98/95)Mo variations attributed to mantle heterogeneity,proposing a two-component mixing model to explain the observed variation.Complementary studies confirmed the sub-chondriticδ^(98/95)Mo of the depleted upper mantle,suggesting remixing of subduction-modified oceanic crust as a plausible mechanism.These findings underscore the role of Mo isotopes as effective tracers for understanding dynamic processes associated with mantle-crustal recycling.

Experimental study on wax deposition of highly paraffinic oil in intermittent gas-oil flow in pipelines

Oil-gas two phase wax deposition is a fairly common and open-ended question in flow assurance of multiphase transportation pipelines. This paper investigated the two main aspects of oil-gas two phase wax deposition layer: apparent thickness and crystal structure characteristics. A typical highly paraffinic oil in Bohai Sea, China, was used as the experimental material to investigate the wax deposition thickness in oil-gas two phase under the influence of different oil temperatures, superficial gas/liquid phase velocities and gas-oil ratios by using multiphase flow loop experimental device. Just as in the classical theory of wax molecular diffusion, it showed that wax deposition thickness of oil-gas two phase increased with increasing oil temperature. Analysis of the impact of different superficial phase velocities found that the actual liquid flow heat transfer and shear stripping was the gas phase dominant mechanisms determining wax deposit thickness. In addition, the crystal structure of the wax deposition layer was characterized with the help of small-angle X-ray scattering(SAXS) for different circumferential positions, flow rates and gas-oil ratios. The bottom deposition layer had a complex crystal structure and high hardness, which were subject to change over flow rate variations. Furthermore, the SAXS results provided evidence that the indirect effect of the actual liquid velocity modified by the gas phase was the main mechanism. Our study of the effect of gas phase on the wax deposition of oil-gas two phase will help shed light onto the mechanism by which this important process occurs. Our findings address a very urgent need in the field of wax deposition of highly paraffinic oil to understand the flow security of oilgas two phase that occurs easily in multiphase field pipelines.

Cancer stem cells(CSCs)are considered tumor-initiating cells and the main drivers of disease progression.Targeting these rare cancer cells,however,remains challenging with respect to therapeutic benefit.Here,we report the up-regulation of IL-13RA2 expression in colorectal cancer(CRC)tissues and spheroid cells.The expression of IL-13RA2 was positively correlated with canonical stemness markers in CRC.We further demonstrated that the level of IL-13 was up-regulated in the serum of CRC patients.Biologically,recombinant IL-13(rIL13)stimulation promoted the sphere formation,proliferation,and migration of CRC cells in vitro and enhanced tumorigenesis in vivo.This phenotype could be reversed by knocking down IL-13RA2.Mechanistically,IL-13 activated autophagy by inducing LC3I/LC3II transformation in CRC-CSCs,which was crucial for the biological functions of IL-13.We further demonstrated that IL-13RA2 acted as a modular link of the E3 ligase UBE3C and the substrate p53 protein,enhancing the interaction of UBE3C and p53,thereby inducing the K48-linked ubiquitination of p53.In conclusion,the IL-13/IL-13RA2 signaling cascade promotes CRC-CSC self-renewal and tumorigenesis by inducing p53 ubiquitination,adding an important layer to the connection between IL-13 and p53,which can be translated into novel targeted therapies.

BACKGROUND Stem cell therapy has shown great potential for treating diabetic foot(DF).AIM To conduct a bibliometric analysis of studies on the use of stem cell therapy for DF over the past two decades,with the aim of depicting the current global research landscape,identifying the most influential research hotspots,and providing insights for future research directions.METHODS We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for all relevant studies on the use of stem cell therapy in DF.Bibliometric analysis was carried out using CiteSpace,VOSviewer,and R(4.3.1)to identify the most notable studies.RESULTS A search was conducted to identify publications related to the use of stem cells for DF treatment.A total of 542 articles published from 2000 to 2023 were identified.The United States had published the most papers on this subject.In this field,Iran’s Shahid Beheshti University Medical Sciences demonstrated the highest productivity.Furthermore,Dr.Bayat from the same university has been an outstanding researcher in this field.Stem Cell Research&Therapy is the journal with the highest number of publications in this field.The main keywords were“diabetic foot ulcers,”“wound healing,”and“angiogenesis.”CONCLUSION This study systematically illustrated the advances in the use of stem cell therapy to treat DF over the past 23 years.Current research findings suggested that the hotspots in this field include stem cell dressings,exosomes,wound healing,and adipose-derived stem cells.Future research should also focus on the clinical translation of stem cell therapies for DF.

Efficacy and safety of Usights UC100 illuminated microcatheter in microcatheter-assisted trabeculotomy

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Usights UC100 illuminated microcatheter in microcatheter-assisted trabeculotomy(MAT).METHODS:Totally 10 eyes of 10 patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)who underwent MAT facilitated by Usights UC100(5 eyes)or iTrack(5 eyes)were reviewed.The success of this surgery was defined as intraocular pressure(IOP)30%reduction,without oral glaucoma medications,or additional glaucoma surgery.RESULTS:The mean pre-operative IOP was 25.38±10.22 mm Hg in the Usights UC100 group and 19.98±3.87 mm Hg in the iTrack group.MAT was achieved in all eyes in both groups.The success rates for the Usights UC100 group and iTrack groups were in all and 4 eyes,respectively.Both microcatheters produced a statistically significant reduction in IOP,and eyes using Usights UC100 achieved a lower IOP than the iTrack group at 3mo followup(12.58±1.52 and 14.84±1.89 mm Hg,respectively),but no statistical significance was there.No severe side effects were observed in either group.CONCLUSION:MAT using Usights UC100 or iTrack both achieve significant pressure reduction in cases of POAG,and Usights UC100 is as safe as iTrack.

Acupuncture is one of the most effective complementary therapies for allergic rhinitis(AR)and has been recommended by several clinical practice guidelines(CPGs)for AR.However,these CPGs mentioned acupuncture without making recommendations for clinical implementation and therapeutic protocols,therefore limiting the applicability of acupuncture therapies for AR.Hence,for the benefit of acupuncture practitioners around the world,the World Federation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Societies have initiated a project to develop the CPG for the use of acupuncture and moxibustion to treat AR.This CPG was developed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE)methodology,referring to the principles of the World Health Organization Handbook for Guideline Development.During the development of the CPG,the guideline development group(GDG)played an important role.The clinical questions,recommendations and therapeutic protocols were all formulated by the GDG using the modified Delphi method.The CPG contains recommendations for 15 clinical questions about the use of acupuncture and moxibustion interventions.These include one strong recommendation for the intervention based on high-quality evidence,three conditional recommendations for either the intervention or standard care,and 11 conditional recommendations for the intervention based on very low quality of evidence.The CPG also provides one filiform needle acupuncture protocol and five moxibustion protocols extracted based on the protocols presented in randomized controlled trials reviewed by the GDG.
