BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection and its consequent complications are undeniably a public health burden worldwide,particularly in *** evidence suggests that many lncRNAs have relevant roles in viral infections and antiviral *** To investigate the expression profiles of circulating lncRNAGAS5,lncRNAHEIH,lncRNABISPR and mRNABST2 in naïve,treated and relapsed HCV Egyptian patients,to elucidate relation to HCV infection and their efficacy as innovative biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of HCV *** One hundred and thirty HCV-infected Egyptian patients and 20 healthy controls were included in this *** lncRNAs and mRNABST2 were measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR).RESULTS Our results indicated that serum lncRNAGAS5 and LncRNABISPR were upregulated,whereas mRNA BST2 and LncRNA HEIH were downregulated in naïve *** contrast,HCV patients treated with sofosbuvir and simeprevir;with sofosbuvir and daclatasvir;or with sofosbuvir,daclatasvir and ribavirin exhibited lower levels of lncRNAGAS5 and lncRNABISPR with higher mRNABST2 compared to naïve ***,patients relapsed from sofosbuvir and simeprevir showed higher levels of these lncRNAs with lower mRNABST2 compared to treated ***5 and lncRNABISPR were positively correlated with viral load and ALT at PmRNABST2 was negatively correlated with viral load at Pment in HCV pathogenesis or antiviral response and highlights their promising roles in diagnosis and prognosis of HCV.

Identifying the parameters of photovoltaic(PV)modules is significant for their design and *** of the instabilities in the weather action and land surface of the earth,which cause errors in measuring,a novel fuzzy representation-based PV module is formulated and *** this paper,a novel locomotion-based hybrid salp swarm algorithm(LHSSA)is presented to identify the parameters of PV modules accurately and *** the LHSSA,better leader salps based on particle swarm optimization(PSO)are incorporated to the traditional salp swarm algorithm(SSA)in a serialized scheme with the aim of providing more valuable information for the leader salps of the *** this integration,the proposed LHSSA can escape the local optima as well as guide the seeking process to attain the promising *** proposed LHSSA is investigated on different PV models,i.e.,single-diode(SD),double-diode(DD),and PV module in crisp and fuzzy *** comparing with different algorithms,the comprehensive results affirm that the LHSSA can achieve a highly competitive performance,especially on quality and reliability.

Plasma ignition threshold disparity between silver nanoparticle-based target and bulk silver target at different laser wavelengths

Plasma ignition threshold of nanoparticle-based and bulk silver targets was measured in air. The plasma was initiated by a Nd:YAG laser at wavelengths of 355, 532, and 1064 nm. The plasma ignition was monitored utilizing the prominent Ag I line at 546.5 nm. Lower ignition thresholds of the nanoparticle-based silver target were estimated at 0.4?±?0.02, 0.34?±?0.04, and 0.27?±?0.035 J cm^(-2) coupled with the different laser wavelengths, respectively. In contrast, the bulk silver target plasma exhibited an order of magnitude higher ignition threshold. A three orders of magnitude enhanced emission intensity from the nano-based target over the bulk target was achieved at lower levels of laser irradiation. A reduction of the thermal diffusion length of the nanosilver was assumed in order to theoretically predict this reduction in the plasma threshold. In addition, the effect of self-reversal on the resonance lines was taken into consideration.

Development of new potentiometric sensors for the determination of proguanil hydrochloride in serum and urine

Potentiometric electrodes were developed for the rapid determination of proguanil hydrochloride in pure samples, pharmaceutical preparations and spiked serum and urine samples using PVC membrane,screen printed（SPE）, coated wired（CWE）, carbon paste（CPE） and modified carbon paste（mCPE）electrodes based on the ion-exchanger of proguanil with phosphotungestic acid（Pr-PT） as a chemical modifier. The prepared electrodes showed Nernestian slopes of 59.7, 58.1, 58.5, 58.5 and 57.0 for the PVC,SPE, CWE, CPE and mCPE for the proguanil ions in a wide concentration range of 1.0 ＊ 10^-5–1.0 ＊ 10^-2mol L^-1 at 25°C with detection limits of 7.94 ＊ 10^-6, 1.0 ＊ 10^-5, 1.0 ＊ 10^-6, 7.07 ＊ 10^-6 and 2.5 ＊ 10^-6 mol L^-1, respectively. The prepared electrodes exhibited high proguanil selectivity in relation to several inorganic ions and sugars and they could be successfully utilized for its determination in pure solutions, pharmaceutical preparations and serum and urine samples using the direct potentiometry and standard addition methods with very good recovery values.

Separation of ^(152+154)Eu,^(90)Sr from radioactive waste effluent using liquid–liquid extraction by polyglycerol phthalate

A new polyglycerol phthalate extractant was prepared and characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance(~1H NmR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. A preliminary study of the extraction of long-lived(^(90) Sr and ^(152+154)Eu) and short-lived(^(90) Y) radionuclides by polyglycerol phthalate was performed. The influence of different diluents, concentration of the acid, type of acid, and various interfering ions was explored. The stripping of ^(152+154)Eu radionuclide was studied by using different acid solutions, and it was found that sulfuric acid was the ideal acid for this purpose. Furthermore,^(152+154)Eu was extracted from the fission products(^(90) Sr) and the extraction% of^(90) Sr was found to improve in the presence of interfering ions.

Assessing decontamination practices at a medical microbiology research laboratory

To our knowledge,this is the first study to conduct an objective assessment of the routine decontamination practices at a medical microbiology research laboratory(mRL)a year after a biosafety training was provided to all laboratory *** march 28th and June 28th,2021,unobtrusive observations were carried out to identify-three high-touch surfaces at the mRL during different working *** was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the disinfectant used in the *** three high-touch surfaces were sampled before and after decontamination with 200 ppm of 5%sodium hypochlorite(household bleach)to quantify the microbial load and identify the types of organisms residing on the laboratory surfaces.A higher concentration(500 ppm)of 5%sodium hypochlorite was employed after refresher training was provided to housekeeping staff,and resampling of the three surfaces was carried out during a 4-week follow-up period using the same *** three high-touch surfaces identified were the two sides of the workbench(22%–24%)and the front surface of one incubator(14%).Anthracoid bacilli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly found organisms on laboratory surfaces preintervention(100%and 89%,respectively)and post-intervention(56%and 44%,respectively).Other microorganisms detected included Salmonella spp.(27.7%),Proteus spp.(5.6%),Escherichia coli(5.6%),and Klebsiella spp.(33.3%).Employing a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite significantly(pm an average of 15–250 cfu/cm2 to 10–60 cfu/cm^(2).This study demonstrated suboptimal decontamination practices at the mRL and the need to apply a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite to reduce the overall microbial *** also demonstrated the importance of quantitative assessment to monitor decontamination practices and ensure staff *** studies are needed to identify bacterial communities within the laboratory,which will

Visual performance after implantation of two types of phakic foldable intraocular lenses for correction of high myopia

AIm: To compare Visian lens(model V4 c) and Artiflex lens regarding quality(contrast sensitivity) and quantity(efficacy, predictability, safety and stability) of vision in correcting high myopia with recording and analysis of complications. mETHODS: The comparative prospective study included 39 eyes of 23 patients with high myopia, 19 eyes had Visian lens implantation(model V4 c) and 20 eyes had Artiflex lens implantation. The inclusion criteria were high myopia(higher than 6.0 D) and stable refraction(mes included assessment of safety and efficacy indices, predictability, stability, contrast sensitivity and analysis of complications at postoperative 1 d, 1 wk and 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo. Selection of the type of phakic intraocular lens for patients was based on surgeons' preferences, which was no specific selection criteria. RESULTS: After 12 mo of follow up, difference in uncorrected and corrected distant visual acuity(CDVA) between both groups was statistically insignificant(UDVA for VisianV4 c and Artiflex lens were 0.33±0.2 logmAR and 0.37±0.2 logmAR respectively, P=0.59, CDVA for VisianV4 c and Artiflex lens were 0.155±0.1 logmAR and 0.147± 0.1 logmAR respectively, P=0.87). The efficacy index was 1.25 for VisianV4 c lens and 0.8 for Artiflex lens, 78.9% of eyes were within one diopter spherical equivalent in Visian V4 c lens group compared to 70% in the Artiflex lens group. No eye lost lines of CVDA proving a good safety index for both lenses(safety index was 1.67 for VisianV4 c lens and 1.34 for Artiflex lens). Difference in contrast sensitivity between both groups was statistically insignificant(P=0.15, 0.88, 0.27, 0.32 and 0.82 at five spatial frequencies). CONCLUSION: Both Visian ICL V4 c and Artiflex lensesare safe and effective with stable and predictable refraction and they have comparable contrast sensitivity outcomes with no vision threatening complications.

Hepatocellular carcinoma in Egypt: A single center study over a decade

AIm： To identify the trend, possible risk factors and any pattern change of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） in Egypt over a decade. mETHODS： All HCC patients attending Cairo Liver Center between January 1993 and December 2002, were enrolled in the study. Diagnosis of HCC was based on histopathological examination and/or detection of hepatic focal lesions by two imaging techniques plus α-fetoprotein level above 200 ng/mL. The duration of the study was divided into two periods of 5 years each; period Ⅰ （1993-1997） and period Ⅱ （1998-2002）. Trend, demographic features of patients （age, gender, and residence）, risk factors （HBsAg, HCV-Ab, schistosomiasis and others） and pattern of the focal lesions were compared between the two periods. Logistic regression model was fitted to calculate the adjusted odds ratios for the potential risk factors. The population attributable risk percentage was calculated to estimate the proportion of HCC attributed to hepatitis B and C viral infections. RESULTS： Over a decade, 1 328 HCC patients out of 22 450 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients were diagnosed with an overall proportion of 5.9%. The annual proportion of HCC showed a significant rising trend from 4.0% in 1993 to 7.2% in 2002 （P = 0.000）. A significant increase in male proportion from 82.5% to 87.6% （P = 0.009）; m/F from 5：1 to 7：1 and a slight increase of the predominant age group （40-59 years） from 62.6% to 66.8% （P = 0.387）in periods Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively, reflecting a shift to younger age group. In the bivariate analysis, HCC was significantly higher in rural residents, patients with history of schistosomiasis and/or blood transfusion. Yet, after adjustment, these variables did not have a significant risk for development of HCC. There was a significant decline of HBsAg from 38.6% to 20.5% （P = 0.000）, and a slight increase of HCV-Ab from 85.6% to 87.9% in periods I and II respectively.
