Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) which is characterized by insulin resistance in muscle and adipose tissues is a major problem worldwide. Plant based medications are well known from ancient times for possessing antidiabetic properties. Amongst them, Gymnema sylvestre (Gs) is one such antidiabetic medicinal plant which has been used traditionally over the years for the treatment of T2DM. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of triterpene glycoside (TG), an active fraction isolated from ethanolic extract of Gymnema sylvestre (EEGs) on a battery of targets;glucose transporter (GLUT- 4), peroxisome proliferator activator receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), adiponectin and leptin involved in glucose transport and metabolism. No cytotoxic effects were observed in treated cells up to 600 μg/ml of TG as measured by MTT and ROs assays. Elevation of GLUT-4 and PPAR-γ by TG in association with glucose transport supported the upregulation of glucose uptake at concentrations of 50 and 100 μg/ml respectively. Additionally, TG showed higher expression of adiponectin and leptin, confirming the favorable pharmacological effect of TG on insulin resistance. The results were comparable to the known antidiabetic drug pioglitazone and commercial standard DAG. Thus TG could be considered as a safe nutraceutical candidate/functional phytoingredient in amelioration of insulin resistance.

It is known that the dynamical evolution of a system, from an initial tensor product state of system and environment, to any two later times, t1, t2 (t2 > t1), are both completely positive (CP) but in the intermediate times between t1 and t2 it need not be CP. This reveals the key to the Markov (if CP) and non Markov (if it is not CP) avataras of the intermediate dynamics. This is brought out here in terms of the quantum stochastic map A and the associated dynamical map B—without resorting to master equation approaches. We investigate these features with four examples which have entirely different physical origins: 1) A two qubit Werner state map with time dependent noise parameter;2) Phenomenological model of a recent optical experiment (Nature Physics, 7, 931 (2011)) on the open system evolution of photon polarization;3) Hamiltonian dynamics of a qubit coupled to a bath of N qubits;4) Two qubit unitary dynamics of Jordan et al. (Phys. Rev. A 70, 052110 (2004) with initial product states of qubits. In all these models, it is shown that the positivity/negativity of the eigenvalues of intermediate time dynamical B map determines the Markov/non-Markov nature of the dynamics.

Objective:To investigate the application of Ziehl-Neelsen(Z-N) and fluorescent microscopy in detection of acid fast bacilli(AFB).Methods:Duplicate smears were prepared from 260 sputum samples and stained with Z-N and fluorescent staining(Fs) *** efficiency of both methods in primary diagnosis of tuberculosis were ***:The smears were positive for AFB in 15(5.77%) samples by Z-N staining method and in 16(6.15%) samples by Fs *** sensitivity and specificity of Z-N staining method against Fs method were 93.75% and 100%***:Though lesser cost-effective than Z-N,Fs method is a more sensitive and better case finding tool in detection of AFB.

BACKGROUND: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and anxiety pertaining to basic life support(BLs) and medical emergencies among interns in dental colleges of Mangalore city, Karnataka, ***: The study subjects comprised of interns who volunteered from the four dental colleges. The knowledge and attitude of interns were assessed using a 30-item questionnaire prepared based on the Basic Life support Manual from American Heart Association and the anxiety of interns pertaining to BLs and medical emergencies were assessed using a state-Trait Anxiety Inventory(sTAI) Questionnaire. Chi-square test was performed on sPss 21.0(IBM statistics, 2012) to determine statistically signifi cant differences(Pssessed knowledge and ***: Out of 183 interns, 39.89% had below average knowledge. A total of 123(67.21%) reported unavailability of professional training. The majority(180, 98.36%) felt the urgent need of training in basic life support procedures. Assessment of stress showed a total of 27.1% participants to be above highstress level. Comparison of assessed knowledge and stress was found to be insignifi cant(P=0.983).CONCLUsION: There was an evident lack of knowledge pertaining to the management of medical emergencies among the interns. As oral health care providers moving out to the society, a focus should be placed on the training of dental interns with respect to Basic Life support procedures.

Enhancement of thermal properties of conventional heat transfer fluids has become one of the important technical challenges. since nanofluids offer a promising help in this regard, development of simpler and hassle free routes for their synthesis is of utmost importance. synthesis of nanofluids using a hassle free route with greener chemicals has been reported. The single-step chemical approach reported here overcomes the drawbacks of the two-step procedures in the synthesis of nanofluids. The resulting Newtonian nanofluids prepared contained cuboctahedral particles of cuprous oxide and exhibited a thermal conductivity of 2.852 W- m-1. K-1. Polyvinylpyrro- lidone （PVP） used during the synthesis acted as a stabilizing agent rendering the nanofluid a stability of 9 weeks.

Anthracnose disease caused by the Colletotrichum gloeosporioides species complex is a major problem *** this study,we investigated the phylogenetic diversity of 207 Indian Colletotrichum isolates,associated with symptomatic and asymptomatic tissues of mango,belonging to this species *** analyses were performed based on a 6-gene dataset(act,cal,chs1,gapdh,ITs and tub2),followed by ApMat *** ApMat-based phylogeny was found to be superior as it provided finer resolution in most of the species-level ***,the ApMat marker identified seven lineages within *** sensu lato,including ***-sambac,***,***,*** sensu stricto and three undesignated,potentially novel *** this study,*** sensu stricto,***,***-sambac,*** and five undesignated,potentially novel lineages were found to be associated with mango *** is a need to develop a consensus among mycologists as to which genes should be used to define and delimit a Colletotrichum species and in the mean time mycologists should voluntarily restrain from describing new species based on inadequate datasets.

Effect of Phyllanthus *** on burn wound in rats
