Degradation behaviors of Nabumetone and its metabolite during UV/monochloramine process:Experimental and theoretical study

This study investigated degradation behaviors of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug Nabumetone(NMT)and its major metabolite 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid(MNA)in the coupling process of ultraviolet and monochloramine(UV/NH2Cl).The second-order rate constants of the contaminants reacting with reactive radicals(HO·,Cl·,Cl_(2)·-,and CO_(3)·^(-))were determined by laser flash photolysis experiments.HO·and Cl·contributed predominantly with 52.3%and 21.7%for NMT degradation and 60.8%and 22.3%for MNA degradation.The presence of chlorides retarded the degradation of NMT,while promoted the destruction of MNA,which was ascribed to the photosensitization effects of MNA under UV irradiation.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that radical adduct formation(RAF)was dominant pathway for both HO·and Cl·reacting with the contaminants,and hydrogen atom transfer(HAT)preferred to occur on side chains of NMT and MNA.NMT reacted with NO_(2)·through single electron transfer(SET)with the second-order rate constant calculated to be 5.35×10^(7)(mol/L)^(-1)sec^(-1),and the contribution of NO_(2)·was predicted to be 13.0%of the total rate constant of NMT in pure water,which indicated that NO_(2)·played a nonnegligible role in the degradation of NMT.The acute toxicity and developmental toxicity of NMT were enhanced after UV/NH_(2)Cl treatment,while those of MNA were alleviated.The transformation products of both NMT and MNA exhibited higher mutagenicity than their parent compounds.This study provides a deep understanding of the mechanism of radical degradation of NMT and MNA in the treatment of UV/NH2Cl.

Molecular Chaperone-Dependent Polymer Translocation through Nanopores: The Effects of Chaperone Concentration and Chaperone-Polymer Interaction

The polymer translocation through a nanopore from a donor space(or named cis side) to a receiver space(trans side) in the chaperone-induced crowded environment has attracted increasing attention in recent years due to its significance in biological systems and technological applications. In this work, we mainly focus on the effects of chaperone concentration and chaperone-polymer interaction on the polymer translocation. By assuming the polymer translocation to be a quasi-equilibrium process, the free energy F of the polymer can be estimated by Rosenbluth-Rosenbluth method and then the translocation time τ can be calculated by Fokker-Plank equation based on the obtained free energy landscape. Our calculation results show that the translocation time can be controlled by independently tuning the chaperone concentration and chaperone-polymer interaction at the cis side or the trans side. There exists a critical chaperone-polymer attraction ε~*=-0.2 at which the volume exclusion and interaction effects of the chaperone can balance each other. Additionally, we also find that at large chaperone-polymer attraction, the translocation time is mainly governed by the diffusion coefficient of the polymer.

Backgroup:Currently,aromatherapy is being increasingly utilized in clinical practice,particularly in managing the side effects associated with radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy.However,it remains to be established whether aromatherapy can effectively alleviate these symptoms.Objective:To investigate the effects of aromatherapy on the physical and mental health of patients with cancer undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Methods:Seven databases were researched from inception until September 29,2023,including PubMed,Scopus,and Web of Science,Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang database,China Biology Medicine disc and VIP Chinese Medical Journal Database.Review Manager version 5.3 was utilized for data analysis.The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool RoB2 was employed to evaluate the quality of the literature included in the study.Evidence quality rating was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE) approach through the GRADEpro GDT online tool.Results:Nineteen studies involving 1,541 patients were included.Aromatherapy can alleviate nausea [relative risk(RR)=0.64,95% confidence interval(CI):0.53 to 0.78,P<0.05,I^(2)=46%;standardized mean difference(SMD)=-0.86,95% CI:-1.21 to-0.51,P<0.05,I^(2)=64%] and vomiting(RR=0.54,95% CI:0.42 to 0.69,P<0.05,I^(2)=35%;SMD=-1.28,95% CI:-1.52 to-1.03,P<0.05,I^(2)=92%),improve sleep disorders [mean difference(MD)=-3.39,95% CI:-3.95 to-2.84,P<0.05,I^(2)=0%],relieve pain(SMD=-1.58,95% CI:-1.96 to-1.21,P<0.05,I^(2)=0%),mitigate fatigue(SMD=-1.28,95% CI:-2.44 to-0.11,P<0.05,I^(2)=93%) and enhance quality of life(SMD=0.50,95% CI:0.22 to 0.79,P<0.05,I^(2)=0%) in cancer patients after radiotherapy and chemotherapy,but it may not have a significant effect on anxiety.The risk of bias was high in the included studies using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool RoB2,and no studies were considered to be of high grade according to the GRADE system.Conclusions:Aromatherapy is an efficacious,safe and economic adjunctive therapy for cancer patien

Efficacy of radiofrequency ablation combined with sorafenib for treating liver cancer complicated with portal hypertension and prognostic factors

BACKGROUND Patients with liver cancer complicated by portal hypertension present complex challenges in treatment.AIM To evaluate the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation in combination with sorafenib for improving liver function and its impact on the prognosis of patients with this condition.METHODS Data from 100 patients with liver cancer complicated with portal hypertension from May 2014 to March 2019 were analyzed and divided into a study group(n=50)and a control group(n=50)according to the treatment regimen.The research group received radiofrequency ablation(RFA)in combination with sorafenib,and the control group only received RFA.The short-term efficacy of both the research and control groups was observed.Liver function and portal hypertension were compared before and after treatment.Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP),glypican-3(GPC-3),and AFP-L3 levels were compared between the two groups prior to and after treatment.The occurrence of adverse reactions in both groups was observed.The 3-year survival rate was compared between the two groups.Basic data were compared between the survival and non-surviving groups.To identify the independent risk factors for poor prognosis in patients with liver cancer complicated by portal hypertension,multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed.RESULTS When comparing the two groups,the research group's total effective rate(82.00%)was significantly greater than that of the control group(56.00%;P<0.05).Following treatment,alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels increased,and portal vein pressure decreased in both groups.The degree of improvement for every index was substantially greater in the research group than in the control group(P<0.05).Following treatment,the AFP,GPC-3,and AFP-L3 levels in both groups decreased,with the research group having significantly lower levels than the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of diarrhea,rash,nausea and vomiting,and fatigue in the research group was significantly greater than that in the control group(P<0.05).The 1-

Quantile Regression under Truncated, Censored and Dependent Assumptions

In this paper, we focus on the problem of nonparametric quantile regression with left-truncated and right-censored data. Based on Nadaraya-Watson(NW) Kernel smoother and the technique of local linear(LL) smoother, we construct the NW and LL estimators of the conditional quantile. Under strong mixing assumptions, we establish asymptotic representation and asymptotic normality of the estimators. Finite sample behavior of the estimators is investigated via simulation, and a real data example is used to illustrate the application of the proposed methods.

A novel multiscale simulation framework for low-dimensional memristors

In recent years,the memristor has been widely considered an emerging device,but it has rarely been simulated.An obstacle is the change in the intrinsic atomic level when it works.Using the density functional theory(DFT),this atomic level change in structure cannot be demonstrated.Using molecular dynamics(MD),memristor electronic transport properties cannot be calculated.In this study,we propose a novel multiscale simulation framework merging MD,DFT,and the nonequilibrium Green’s function method,which can reveal not only a memristor’s basic working mechanism but also its transport character.To verify our framework’s availability in guiding innovative memristor design,a new type of memristor,a planar monolayer MoS_(2)-based memristor,is simulated for the first time.The popped S atoms’effect on its carrier transport is revealed,which clarifies the working mechanism of the planar monolayer MoS_(2)-based memory device.We hope that this framework can shed light on the analysis and design of low-dimensional memristors.

A general quantum minimum searching algorithm with high success rate and its implementation

Finding a minimum is a fundamental calculation in many quantum algorithms.However,challenges are faced in demonstrating it effectively in real quantum computers.In practice,the number of solutions is unknown,and there is no universal encoding method.Besides that,current quantum computers have limited resources.To alleviate these problems,this paper proposes a general quantum minimum searching algorithm.An adaptive estimation method is adopted to calculate the number of solutions,and a quantum encoding circuit for arbitrary databases is presented for the first time,which improves the universality of the algorithm and helps it achieve a nearly 100%success rate in a series of random databases.Moreover,gate complexity is reduced by our simplified Oracle,and the realizability of the algorithm is verified on a superconducting quantum computer.Our algorithm can serve as a subroutine for various quantum algorithms to promote their implementation in the Noisy IntermediateScale Quantum era.

Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia,significantly impacting patients’quality of life and increasing the risk of death,stroke,heart failure,and dementia.Over the past two decades,there have been significant breakthroughs in AF risk prediction and screening,stroke prevention,rhythm control,catheter ablation,and integrated management.During this period,the scale,quality,and experience of AF management in China have greatly improved,providing a solid foundation for the development of guidelines for the diagnosis and management of AF.To further promote standardized AF management,and apply new technologies and concepts to clinical practice in a timely and comprehensive manner,the Chinese Society of Cardiology of the Chinese Medical Association and the Heart Rhythm Committee of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering have jointly developed the Chinese Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Atrial Fibrillation.The guidelines have comprehensively elaborated on various aspects of AF management and proposed the CHA2DS2-VASc-60 stroke risk score based on the characteristics of AF in the Asian population.The guidelines have also reevaluated the clinical application of AF screening,emphasized the significance of early rhythm control,and highlighted the central role of catheter ablation in rhythm control.

Mechanism of phthalic acid collector in flotation separation of fluorite and rare earth

The mechanism of phthalic acid,a dicarboxylic acid collector,in flotation separation of fluorite and rare earth(RE)was studied in this paper.The experimental data of flotation show that phthalic acid,as the collector,can realize highly efficient separation of fluorite and rare earth under weakly acidic conditions.The adsorption mechanism of phthalic acid on the surface of fluorite and bastnaesite was analyzed in this paper by means of the zeta potential measurement,the Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR),the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and the stability constant measurement of active metal ion and phthalic acid coo rdination complex.According to the zeta potential testing results,the surfaces of fluorite adsorb the collector phthalate ion with negative charge under weakly acidic conditions which,in turn,increases its electronegativity and results in the motion of its potential.After the reaction between phthalic acid and fluorite ores under weakly acidic conditions,the peak of the fluorite ores is found to have significant changes in the FT-IR results,indicating strong chemical adsorption on the surfaces of phthalic acid and fluorite ores.According to the XPS analysis,the peak of benzene ring of phthalic acid is as high as 2%on the surface of fluorite,while no obvious characteristic peak of benzene ring is found on the surface of bastnaesite.According to the pH potentiometric titration results,the stability constant Ktotal of calcium phthalate complex within the acid range is higher than the stability constant K’total of cerium phthalate complex,indicating that the complex generated between phthalic acid and Ca^(2+)is more stable than the complex generated between phthalic acid and Ce^(3+).The possible reason is that Ca^(2+),with the highest reticular density,plays a prevailing role in the octahedron structure of fluorite amidst the acidic media.As the active point of flotation,Ca^(2+)works with the carboxyl groups of the collector phthalic acid(-C=O-)to form polycyclic calcium phthalate complex.

Antibody-mediated rejection(AMR)is one of the major causes of graft loss after transplantation.Recently,the regulation of B cell differentiation and the prevention of donor-specific antibody(DSA)production have gained increased attention in transplant research.Herein,we established a secondary allogeneic in vivo skin transplant model to study the effects of romidepsin(FK228)on DSA.The survival of grafted skins was monitored daily.The serum levels of DSA and the number of relevant immunocytes in the recipient spleens were evaluated by flow cytometry.Then,we isolated and purified B cells from B6mouse spleens in vitro by magnetic bead sorting.The B cells were cultured with interleukin-4(IL-4)and anti-clusters of differentiation 40(CD40)antibody with or without FK228 treatment.The immunoglobulin G1(IgG1)and IgM levels in the supernatant were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR)and western blotting were conducted to determine the corresponding levels of messenger RNA(mRNA)and protein expression in cultured cells and the recipient spleens.The results showed that FK228 significantly improved the survival of allogeneic skin grafts.Moreover,FK228 inhibited DSA production in the serum along with the suppression of histone deacetylase 1(HADC1)and HDAC2 and the upregulation of the acetylation of histones H2A and H3.It also inhibited the differentiation of B cells to plasma cells,decreased the transcription of positive regulatory domain-containing 1(Prdm1)and X-box-binding protein 1(Xbp1),and decreased the expression of phosphorylated inositol-requiring enzyme 1α(p-IRE1α),XBP1,and B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein-1(Blimp-1).In conclusion,FK228 could decrease the production of antibodies by B cells via inhibition of the IRE1α-XBP1 signaling pathway.Thus,FK228 is considered as a promising therapeutic agent for the clinical treatment of AMR.
