Evaluation of.Venous Ammonia Level, Splenic Longitudinal Diameter, Portal Vein and Splenic Vein Diameters as Non-Invasive Indicators f.r the Presence of.Portosystemic Collaterals in Egyptian Cirrhotic Patients

Introduction and Aim of.the Work: The identif.cation of.cirrhotic patients with esophageal varices or other portosystemic collateral by non-invasive means is appealing in that it could decrease the necessity of.endoscopic screening. This study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of.venous ammonia level with other ultrasonographic parameters as non-invasive markers f.r the presence of.portosystemic shunts. Patients and methods: The study included 3 groups of.Child Pugh class A and early B patients. Group (A): 25 patients with evidence of.both esophageal varices and portosystemic collaterals;group (B) 25 patients with neither evidence of.varices nor portosystemic collaterals and group (C): 25 patients with evidence of.varices but no collaterals. Measurement of.venous ammonia level was done f.r all patients. Results: serum ammonia level was signif.cantly higher in group A (222.8 ± 54 μg/dL) than that in group B (85 ± 21.1 μg/dL) and group C (148.2 ± 19.6 μg/dL). The cut-of. value of.serum ammonia level 113 μg/dL was a good predictor f.r the presence of.esophageal varices, while the cut-of. value of.serum ammonia level at 133 μg/dL was a good predictor f.r the presence of.both esophageal varices and abdominal collaterals. Combination of.portal vein diameter > 13mm + splenic vein diameter > 8.9mm + ammonia level > 133 μg/dL gives 100% of.sensitivity and 96% of.specif.city f.r the prediction of.the presence of.portosystemic shunts. Conclusion: Determination of.serum ammonia level, splenic, portal vein and splenic vein diameters are considered as good predictors f.r the presence of.portosystemic shunts in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Crop Discrimination Using f.eld Hyper Spectral Remotely Sensed Data

Crop discrimination through satellite imagery is still problematic. Accuracy of.crop classif.cation f.r high spatial resolution satellite imagery in the intensively cultivated lands of.the Egyptian Nile delta is still low. Theref.re, the main objective of.this research is to determine the optimal hyperspectral wavebands in the spectral range of.(400 - 2500 nm) to discriminate between two winter crops (Wheat and Clover) and two summer crops (Maize and Rice). This is considered as a f.rst step to improve crop classif.cation through satellite imagery in the intensively cultivated areas in Egypt. Hyperspectral ground measurements of.ASD f.eld Spec3 spectroradiometer was used to monitor the spectral ref.ectance prof.le during the period of.the maximum growth stage of.the f.ur crops. 1-nm-wide was aggregated to 10-nm-wide bandwidths. Af.er accounting f.r atmospheric windows and/or areas of.signif.cant noise, a total of.2150 narrow bands in 400 - 2500 nm were used in the analysis. Spectral ref.ectance was divided into six spectral zones: blue, green, red, near-inf.ared, shortwave inf.ared-I and shortwave inf.ared-II. One Way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD post hoc analysis was perf.rmed to choose the optimal spectral zone that could be used to dif.erentiate the dif.erent crops. Then, linear regression discrimination (LDA) was used to identif. the specif.c optimal wavebands in the spectral zones in which each crop could be spectrally identif.ed. The results of.Tukey’s HSD showed that blue, NIR, SWIR-1 and SWIR-2 spectral zones are more suf.icient in the discrimination between wheat and clover than green and red spectral zones. At the same time, all spectral zones were quite suf.icient to discriminate between rice and maize. The results of.(LDA) showed that the wavelength zone (727:1299 nm) was the optimal to identif. clover crop while three zones (350:712, 1451:1562, 1951:2349 nm) could be used to identif. wheat crop. Temperature and Doping Dependencies of.the Transport Properties within GaN and GaAs

Temperature and doping dependencies of.the transport properties have been calculated using an ensemble Monte Carlo simulation. We consider the polar optical phonon, acoustic phonons, piezoelectric, intervalley scatterings and Charged impurity scattering model of.Ridley;f.rthermore, a non nonparabolic three-valley model is used. Our simulation results have shown that the electron velocity in GaN is less sensitive to changes in temperature than that associated with GaAs. Also it is f.und that GaN exhibits high peak drif. velocity at room temperature, 2.8 × 105m/s, at doping concentration of.1 × 1020 m–3and the electron drif. velocity relaxes to the saturation value of.1.3 × 105 m/s which is much larger than that of.GaAs. The weakening of.the phonon emission rate at low temperature explains the extremely high low f.eld mobility. Our results suggest that the transport characteristics of.GaN are superior to that of.GaAs, over a wide range of.temperatures, f.om 100 K to 700 K, and doping concentrations, up to 1 × 1025

Adsorption of.Silver Nanoparticles f.om Aqueous Solution by Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are becoming an emerging pollutant of.the environment. In this study, the ef.icacy of.Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTS) to remove AgNPs f.om aqueous solution at a concentration of.250 and 500 mg/100 ml MWCNTS was investigated. The results showed that the adsorption of.AgNPs by 250 and 500 mg/100 ml MWCNTS af.er a contact time of.10 min., 30 min., 60 min., 120 min. and 240 min was 33.95%, 34.36%, 40.32%, 45.33%, 58.53% and 57.29%, 61.27%, 64.89%, 87.21%, 88.58%, respectively. The statistical analysis of.data showed that, af.er adding 250 and 500 mg/100 ml MWCNTS, the total residues of.AgNPs were signif.cantly reduced in all MWCNTS exposed samples when compared to the control groups (P f.cant dif.erences between 240 min. and all other contact times. The result concluded that the removal percent of.AgNPs f.om aqueous solution was increased with the increase in contact time and concentrations of.MWCNTS. Additionally, MWCNTS are expected to be potential adsorbent in the f.ture due to their high removal capacity of.nano-sized silver.

An Eco-f.iendly Synthesis of.Heterocyclic Moieties Condensed with Pyrazole System under Green Conditions and Their Biological Activity

The ef.icient, f.cile and green synthesis of.4-bromo pyrazolone by using N-bromo saccharine as valuable green reagent encouraged us to prepare some new f.sed heterocycles as f.ropyrazole, pyranopyrazole, imidazopyrazole, pyrazolothiazole, pyrazol thiazolopyrimidine, pyrazolothiazine, oxathinopyrazole, pyrazolobenzooxazine, and pyrazoloquinoxaline. The synthesis was carried out by a basic condensation of.bromo pyrazolone 2 and a suitable reagent in a one-pot reaction using chitosan as a green basic catalyst. The reactions were carried out by microwave irradiation technique as a green source of.energy as well as the conventional heating. The antioxidant activity of.the prepared compounds was studied using 1,1-phenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and their antibacterial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and antif.ngal activity was evaluated.

In situ modif.d screen printed and carbon paste ion selective electrodes f.r potentiometric determination of.naphazoline hydrochloride in its f.rmulation

The construction and perf.rmance characteristics of.new sensitive and selective in situ modif.ed screen printed （ISPE） and carbon paste （ICPE） electrodes f.r determination of.naphazoline hydrochloride （NPZ-HC1） have been developed. The electrodes under investigation show potentiometric response f.r NPZ-HC1 in the concentration range f.om 7.0 x 10-7 to 1.0 x 10-2 M at 25 ~C and the electrode response is independent of.pH in the range of.3.1-7.9. These sensors have slope values of.59.7＋0.6 and 59.2＋0.2 mV decade-l with detection limit values of.5.6 ~ 10-7 and 5.9 x 10-7 M NPZ- HC1 using ISPE and ICPE, respectively. These electrodes show f.st response time of.4-7 s and 5-8 s and exhibits lif.times of.28 and 30 days f.r ISPE and ICPE, respectively. Selectivity f.r NPZ-HC1 with respect to a number of.interf.ring materials was also investigated. It was f.und that there is no interf.rence f.om the investigated inorganic cations, anions, sugars and other pharmaceutical excipients. The proposed sensors were applied f.r the determination of.NPZ-HC1 in pharmaceutical f.rmulation using the direct potentiometric method. It showed a mean average recovery of.100.2% and 102.6% f.r ISPE and ICPE, respectively. The obtained results using the proposed sensors were in good agreement with those obtained using the of.icial method. The proposed sensors show signif.cantly high selectivity, response time, accuracy, precision, limit of.detection （LOD）and limit of.quantif.cation （LOQ） compared with other proposed methods.

A practical application of.photogrammetry to perf.rming rib characterization measurements in an underground coal mine using a DSLR camera

Understanding coal mine rib behavior is important f.r inf.rring pillar loading conditions as well as ensuring the saf.ty of.miners who are regularly exposed to ribs. Due to the variability in the geometry of.underground openings and ground behavior, point measurements of.en f.il to capture the true movement of.mine workings. Photogrammetry is a potentially f.st, cheap, and precise supplemental measurement tool in comparison to extensometers, tape measures, or laser range meters, but its application in underground coal has been limited. The practical use of.photogrammetry was tested at the Saf.ty Research Coal Mine, National Institute f.r Occupational Saf.ty and Health(NIOSH). A commercially available, digital single-lens ref.ex(DSLR) camera was used to perf.rm the photogrammetric surveys f.r the experiment. Several experiments were perf.rmed using dif.erent lighting conditions, distances to subject,camera settings, and photograph overlaps, with results summarized as f.llows: the lighting method was f.und to be insignif.cant if.the scene was appropriately illuminated. It was f.und that the distance to the subject has a minimal impact on result accuracy, and that camera settings have a signif.cant impact on the photogrammetric quality of.images. An increasing photograph resolution was pref.rable when measuring plane orientations; otherwise a high point cloud density would likely be excessive. f.cal ratio(f.stop) changes af.ect the depth of.f.eld and image quality in situations where multiple angles are necessary to survey cleat orientations. Photograph overlap is very important to proper three-dimensional reconstruction, and at least 60% overlap between photograph pairs is ideal to avoid unnecessary post-processing. The suggestions and guidelines proposed are designed to increase the quality of.photogrammetry inputs and outputs as well as minimize processing time, and serve as a starting point f.r an underground coal photogrammetry study.

Nursing Research during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Scoping Review

Purpose: This review paper aimed to provide an overview of.the published nursing research related to the COVID-19 pandemic over the last six months. Method: Online Google Scholar database was searched f.r COVID-19 related articles published between the 1st of.Jan 2020 and 15th of.June 2020. f.ndings: The initial search f.und 1930 results f.om combining the search between the words “nurse” and “nursing” with COVID-19. Only 48 articles met the eligibility criteria. Most of.the studies f.cused on psychological f.ctors (33.3%), f.llowed by clinical practices (29.2%). The majority of.the authors have an academic af.iliation (70.8%), only (12.5%) have a clinical af.iliation. About (21%) of.the articles were f.nded, (90%) of.this f.nd came f.om China. Most of.the authors utilized the quantitative approach (27.1%);the qualitative approach has been used by (4.2%);only one article (2.1%) utilized the mixed methodology. No study used a theoretical or conceptual f.amework. Mainly, the nurses conducted their research independently (52.1%), while (35.4%) has been done in a multidisciplinary team;35.3% of.them were done in collaboration with physicians. Conclusion: The results indicate that the nurses responded immediately to the COVID-19 pandemic by conducting researches mainly by utilizing a quantitative approach and writing a lot of.editorials. To enrich the research results, nurses worked in research in collaboration with other disciplines, especially physicians. Still, the nursing research f.nding is under the limit. Stress and psychological f.ctors are the primary concern f.r the nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
