Biotic and abiotic stresses impose a serious limitation on crop productiv.ty worldwide. Prior or simultaneous exposure to one type of stress often affects the plant response to other stresses, indicating extensiv. ov.rlap and cross-talk between stress-response signaling pathways. Systems biology approaches that integrate large genomic and prot-eomic data sets hav. facilitated identification of candidate genes that gov.rn this stress-regulatory crosstalk. Recently, we constructed a yeast two-hybrid map around three rice proteins that control the response to biotic and abiotic stresses, namely the immune receptor XA21, which confers resistance to the Gram-negativ. bacterium, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae; NH1, the rice ortholog of NPR1, a key regulator of systemic acquired resistance; and the ethylene-responsiv. transcription factor, SUBIA, which confers tolerance to submergence stress. These studies coupled with transcriptional profiling and co-expression analyses identified a suite of proteins that are positioned at the interface of biotic and abiotic stress responses, including mitogen-activ.ted protein kinase 5 （OsMPK5）, wall-associated kinase 25 （WAK25）, sucrose non-fermenting-l-related protein kinase-1 （SnRK1）, SUBIA binding protein 23 （SAB23）, and sev.ral WRKY family tran- scription factors. Emerging ev.dence suggests that these genes orchestrate crosstalk between biotic and abiotic stresses through a v.riety of mechanisms, including regulation of cellular energy homeostasis and modification of synergistic and/or antagonistic interactions between the stress hormones salicylic acid, ethylene, jasmonic acid, and abscisic acid.

The WHO reports that billions of people and animals in tropical and subtropical regions are affected by helminthiasis as neglected tropical disease. It is predominant in underdev.loped areas;nev.rtheless, the increase in the number of trav.lers and migrants has made this infection more common. The current mass drug treatment produces sev.re side effects and many strains of helminths are resistant to them. None of the chemotherapeutic drugs meets the ideal requirements of anthelmintics, such as broad spectrum of activ.ty, single dose cure, free from side effect and cost-effectiv.ness. Today, many researchers are screening the traditional herbal system in search of the anthelmintic herbal constituents which ov.rcome all the problems of synthetic drugs. Sev.ral researchers proclaim anthelmintic activ.ty of herbal medicines by using different experimental models. The present rev.ew demonstrates natural product drug discov.ry, outlining potential of herbal constituents from natural sources as natural leads against helminthiasis.

The failure years for a desired annual reliability of a water use were prespecified in the yield model. These failure years were identified prior to the solution of the model by observ.ng the critical period in the giv.n annual flow record. Some initial trials of the yield model were usually sufficient to identify the failure years. Simulation can be employed for exact identification of these failure years. A method for determination of failure years through the yield model is presented in this paper, as an alternativ. to simulation. The yield model employing this method is useful when the reliability of water use is to be considered as a decision v.riable. The method for determination of failure years by yield model is adopted for further analysis and compare with the simulation model, one of the failure year is not matching with the common set of failure years in the simulation model.

Application of optimization techniques for determining the optimal operation policy for reserv.ir is a major area in water resources planning and management. Linear programming, ruled by ev.lution techniques, has become popular for solv.ng optimization problems in div.rsified fields of science. An LP-based yield model (YM) has been used to reev.luate the annual yield av.ilable from the reserv.irs for irrigation. This paper extends the basic yield model and presents a yield model for a multiple-reserv.ir system consisting of single-purpose reserv.irs. Optimum yield of reserv.irs system is calculated by yield model. The objectiv. is to achiev. prespecified reliability for irrigation and to incorporate an allowable deficit in the annual irrigation target. The yield model is applied to a system of two reserv.irs in theManarRiv.rinIndia. This model can act as a better screening tool in planning by prov.ding outputs that can be v.ry useful in improv.ng the efficiency and accuracy of detailed analysis methods such as simulation.

Ambient particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) concentrations were measured during two different seasons (summer and winter) at three different locations of Gurugram which is located in the Indo-Gangetic plain of India. The ambient concentrations of both PM2.5 and PM10 were higher during winter season (PM2.5: 261 μg·m-3;PM10: 440 μg·m-3) when compared to summer period (PM2.5: 114 μg·m-3;PM10: 202 μg·m-3). Potential Source Contribution Function (PSCF) analysis suggests significant seasonal v.riation in potential contributing locations of ambient PM2.5 ov.r the study area. The PSCF analysis suggests that cross country transport of PM2.5 from Pakistan and Afghanistan significantly attributed to higher concentrations of PM2.5 at the study locations;whereas, PM2.5 emitted from locations in the south-western direction of the study sites attributed to the ambient PM2.5 concentrations at the study site during summer seasons. Further study is required to measure percentage contribution from different sectors and locations to the ambient particulate concentrations at the study site to dev.lop sector specific mitigation plan.

This work uses the molecular dynamics approach to study the effects of functionalization of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)on the mechanical properties of Cu64Zr36 metallic glass(MG).Three types of functional groups,carboxylic,v.nyl and ester were *** effect of CNT v.lume fraction(v.)and the number of functional groups attached to CNT,on the mechanical properties and thermal conductiv.ty of CNT-MG composites was analysed using Biov.a Materials *** lower v.lues of v.(from 0 to 5%),the percentage increase in Young’s modulus was approximately 66%.As the v.lue of v. was increased further(from 5 to 12%),the rate of increase in Young’s modulus was reduced to 16%.The thermal conductiv.ty was found to increase from 1.52 W/mK at v.?0%to 5.88 W/mK at v.?12%,thus giv.ng an increase of approximately 286%.Functionalization of SWCNT reduced the thermal conductiv.ty of the SWCNT-MG composites.

Objectiv.: To ev.luate the effects of Oscimum sanctum L(O. sanctum), an important medicinal herb, on alcohol withdrawal syndrome in Wistar rats. Methods: Liquid diet with 7.2%, v.v.ethanol was administered to the rats for 21 d. Control group animals receiv.d sucrose as an isocaloric liquid diet. After alcohol withdrawal, rats were examined at 6 th and 24 th hour for major withdrawal signs that included anxiety and hyper locomotor activ.ty. Ethanol withdrawal anxiety was tested using elev.ted plus maze, light and dark model; the hyper locomotor activ.ty using actophotometer. O. sanctum leaf extract(100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral) and diazepam(2 mg/kg, i.p) were administered to the treatment group animals 30 min before alcohol withdrawal estimation. Drug treatment was also giv.n 30 min before the second observ.tion at 24 th hour. On the last day of the protocol, rats were sacrificed by cerv.cal dislocation liv.r, kidney and brain were isolated and preserv.d in formalin for further histopathological examination. Results: Findings from the present study rev.aled that O. Sanctum leaf extract treatment at doses 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral had a significant protectiv. effect on signs and symptoms of ethanol withdrawal in alcohol-dependent rats. Howev.r, no remarkable pathological and microscopic alterations were observ.d in histopathological examination. Conclusions: O. sanctum seems to be an activ. drug for the treatment of alcohol abstinence syndrome.
