AcrySof phakic angle-supported intraocular lens for the correction of high to extremely high myopia:one-year follow-up results

AIM: To assess the safety, efficacy and predictability of the AcrySof phakic angle-supported intraocular lens (IOL) (Alcon Inc., U.S.A.) for correction of high-to-extremely high myopia in adults. METHODS: In this prospective study performed in Tianjin Medical University Eye Center & College of Optometry, Tianjin, China, 25 eyes of 13 patients were implanted with AcrySof phakic angle-supported IOLs and followed for 1 year postoperatively. Preoperative manifest refractive sphere was (-12.08 +/- 2.44) diopters (D) and cylinder was (-1.35 +/- 0.62)D. Visual acuity, predictability and stability of manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), adverse events, and endothelial cell density were analyzed during 1-year of follow-up. RESULTS: After 1 year of follow-up, no eyes lost 1 line (best spectacle-corrected visual acuity)BSCVA; an uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) of 20/20 or better was achieved in 60% of eyes; 100% had an UCVA of 20/40 or better; a BSCVA of 20/30 or better was achieved by 100% of eyes; 84% had a BSCVA of 20/20 or better. The overall mean percentage change in endothelial cell density 1 year after surgery was (-0.27 +/- 3.60)%. Two eyes (8%) had increased intraocular pressure (IOP) on the day of surgery. No pupil ovalization, pupillary block, or retinal detachment events were observed. CONCLUSION: After 1 year of follow-up, the implantation of AcrySof phakic angle-supported IOL is proved to be safe, effective and predictable with minimal complications in patients with high-to-extremely high myopia. Due to the limitation of visiting time, long-term of clinical investigation is necessary to verify the safety and efficacy of this IOL.

Objective We aimed to assess the feasibility and superiority of machine learning(ML)methods to predict the risk of major Adverse Cardiovascular Events(maCEs)in chest pain patients with *** Enrolled chest pain patients were from two centers,Beijing Anzhen Emergency Chest Pain Center Beijing bo’ai Hospital,China Rehabilitation Research *** classifiers were used to develop ML ***,Precision,Recall,F-Measure and AUC were used to assess the model performance and prediction effect compared with HEART risk scoring ***,ML model constructed by Naïve Bayes was employed to predict the occurrence of *** According to learning metrics,ML models constructed by different classifiers were superior over HEART(History,ECG,Age,Risk factors,&Troponin)scoring system when predicting acute myocardial infarction(AMI)and all-cause ***,according to ROC curves and AUC,ML model constructed by different classifiers performed better than HEART scoring system only in prediction for *** the five ML algorithms,Linear support vector machine(SVC),Naïve Bayes and Logistic regression classifiers stood out with all Accuracy,Precision,Recall and F-Measure from 0.8 to 1.0 for predicting any event,AMI,revascularization and all-cause death(***≤0.78),with AUC from 0.88 to 0.98 for predicting any event,AMI and revascularization(***≤0.85).ML model developed by Naïve Bayes predicted that suspected acute coronary syndrome(ACS),abnormal electrocardiogram(ECG),elevated hs-cTn I,sex and smoking were risk factors of *** Compared with HEART risk scoring system,the superiority of ML method was demonstrated when employing Linear SVC classifier,Naïve Bayes and *** method could be a promising method to predict maCEs in chest pain patients with NSTE-ACS.

Single-phase Grid-connected PV System with Golden Section Search-based MPPT Algorithm

maximum power point tracking(MPPT)is a technique employed for with variable-power sources,such as solar,wind,and ocean,to maximize energy extraction under all *** commonly used perturb and observe(P&O)and incremental conductance(INC)methods have advantages such as ease of implementation,but they also have the challenge of selecting the most optimized perturbation step or increment size while considering the trade-off between convergence time and *** address these issues,an MPPT solution for grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)systems is proposed that combines the golden section search(GSS),P&O,and INC methods to simultaneously achieve faster convergence and smaller oscillation,converging to the MPP by repeatedly narrowing the width of the interval at the rate of the golden *** proposed MPPT technique was applied to a PV system consisting of a PV array,boost chopper,and *** and experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed MPPT technique,by which the system is able to locate the MPP in 36 ms and regain a drifting MPP in approximately 30 ms under transient *** overall MPPT efficiency is 98.99%.

The assisting and stabilizing role played by ω phase during the {112}〈111〉_β twinning in Ti-Mo alloys:A first-principles insight

The ω phase is commonly observed in β-Ti alloys and plays a significant role on various properties ofβ-Ti *** many results about the role of ω phase on mechanical properties of β-Ti alloys have been derived from theoretical and experimental studies,the role of ω phase on deformation mechanism hitherto remains elusive and deserves to be further *** this work,the role played by ω phase during the {112} _(β) twining in Ti-Mo alloys were investigated by first-principles calculations at atomic *** the energy favorable interface of(112)_(β)(110)_(ω),we found that partial dislocations slipping on the successive(1010)_(ω)planes of ω phase can lead to the formation of {112} _(β) twin *** the twin nucleus grows inwards ω grain interior through atomic ***,a new twinning mechanism of {112} _(β) assisted by ω phase was ***,our calculations indicated that the appearance of ITB(interfacial twin boundary) ω phase can improve the stability of the symmetrical{112} _(β) twin boundary(TB),which can well explain the experimental phenomenon that the ITBω phase always accompanies the formation of {112} _(β) ***,a probable microstructure evolution sequence was suggested,namely β matrix→β matrix+athermal ω phase→(112)[111]_(β) twin+ITB ω *** calculations provide new insights on the role played byω phase during the twinning process of {112} _(β),which can deepen the understanding on the deformation behaviors of β-Ti alloys.

Two-way coupled analysis of lithium diffusion and diffusion induced finite elastoplastic bending of bilayer electrodes in lithium-ion batteries

A fully coupling model for the diffusion induced finite elastoplastic bending of bilayer electrodes in lithium-ion batteries is proposed. The effect of the mechanical stress on the lithium diffusion is accounted for by the mechanical part of the chemical potential derived from the Gibbs free energy along with the logarithmic stress and strain. Eight dimensionless parameters, governing the stress-assisted diffusion and the diffusion induced elastoplastic bending, are identified. It is found that the finite plasticity starting from the interface of the bilayer increases the chemical potential gradient and thereby facilitates the lithium diffusion. The full plastic flow makes the abnormal lithium concentration distribution possible, i.e., the concentration at the lithium inlet can be lower than the concentration at the interface(downstream). The increase in the thickness of the active layer during charging is much larger than the eigen-stretch due to lithiation, and this excess thickening is found to be caused by the lithiation induced plastic yield.

Unconventional superfluidity of superconductivity on Penrose lattice

Using the attractive Hubbard model as an example,we theoretically investigate the gap function,superfluid density,and superconductivity(SC)transition temperature on the semiperiodic Penrose ***,we clarify that the gap function,density of states,and superfluid density positively correlate to the extended degree of single-particle states around the Fermi ***,we confirm that the paramagnetic component of the superfluid density does not decay to zero in the thermodynamic limit,which is completely diferent from periodic *** of the scaling,the diference between diamagnetic and paramagnetic currents remains stable,consistent with recent experimental results showing that although the superfluid density is lower than that of a periodic system,the system has bulk ***,we find that the superfluid density and SC transition temperature can be boosted with the increase in disorder strength,which should be general to quasicrystal but unusual to periodic systems,reflecting the interplay between the underlying geometry and disorder.

Development of a convolutional neural network based geomechanical upscaling technique for heterogeneous geological reservoir

Geomechanical assessment using coupled reservoir-geomechanical simulation is becoming increasingly important for analyzing the potential geomechanical risks in subsurface geological ***,a robust and efficient geomechanical upscaling technique for heterogeneous geological reservoirs is lacking to advance the applications of three-dimensional(3D)reservoir-scale geomechanical simulation considering detailed geological ***,we develop convolutional neural network(CNN)proxies that reproduce the anisotropic nonlinear geomechanical response caused by lithological heterogeneity,and compute upscaled geomechanical properties from CNN *** CNN proxies are trained using a large dataset of randomly generated spatially correlated sand-shale realizations as inputs and simulation results of their macroscopic geomechanical response as *** trained CNN models can provide the upscaled shear strength(R^(2)>0.949),stress-strain behavior(R^(2)>0.925),and volumetric strain changes(R^(2)>0.958)that highly agree with the numerical simulation results while saving over two orders of magnitude of computational *** is a major advantage in computing the upscaled geomechanical properties directly from geological realizations without the need to perform local numerical simulations to obtain the geomechanical *** proposed CNN proxybased upscaling technique has the ability to(1)bridge the gap between the fine-scale geocellular models considering geological uncertainties and computationally efficient geomechanical models used to assess the geomechanical risks of large-scale subsurface development,and(2)improve the efficiency of numerical upscaling techniques that rely on local numerical simulations,leading to significantly increased computational time for uncertainty quantification using numerous geological realizations.
