In the wake of the rapid economy and society development, phenomena such as industri-alisation, urbanisation, marketisation and the ageing of the population have shown an accelerating trend. As a result, mental health issues due to these phenomena are increasingly serious, making mental health both concerning public health and societal issues that have a great impact on economic and social development.^1 In 2014, there were 16 million persons with severe mental disor-ders in China.

Bipolar disorder is associated with high rates of general medical conditions, but few cases of overlap between bipolar disorder and chronic lymphocytic infammation with pontine perivascular enhancement responsive to steroids （CLIPPERS） have been reported in the current literature. The following is a case of a 29-year-old patient with a previous major depressive episode comorbid with CLIPPERS. Following glucocorticosteroid therapy, the patient switched to mania-like presentation and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to another medical condition. So it is strongly suggested that high-dose corticosteroid pulse therapy could easily induce psychiatric disturbances for patients with previous psychiatric symptoms, and there may be potential links between bipolar disorder and CLIPPERS in the area of infammation.

Schizophrenia is a kind of chronic mental disorder that leads to disability, and it is characterized by the incoor-dination of perception, mind, emotion and behaviour, and the disconnection between mental activi-ties and reality. It is recurrent and hard to cure. Schizophrenia has caused both agony to patients and their families, and heavy economic burden to their families and society.

Ziprasidone, haloperidol and clonazepam intramuscular administration in the treatment of agitation symptoms in Chinese patients with schizophrenia: A network meta-analysis

Background Agitation is very common in patients with acute stage schizophrenia, and injection of antipsychotics and clonazepam is widely used. Network meta-analysis of these comparisons among three injection treatments has been seldom *** To compare the efficacy and safety of various injections for agitation symptoms in Chinese patients with *** Searches were made in PubMed, Embase and Web of Knowledge, Cochrane Library, Wanfang data, CNKI, SinoMed and VIP databases up to 18 February 2018. Standard search strategies were performed by two reviewers according to the Cochrane Review Group. The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials statement was used to assess the methodological quality of the studies. STATA was used to perform meta-analysis. The Cochrane Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation(GRADE) was used to assess the strength of *** A total of 15 studies were included in the network meta-analysis. There were 11 studies comparing ziprasidone with haloperidol, and four studies comparing haloperidol with clonazepam. The results showed that ziprasidone is more effective than haloperidol and clonazepam(sucra: 77.2, 72.8 and 0) in the treatment of agitation symptoms. There was the effect size(standardised mean difference(SMD)) in the three groups: haloperidol: SMD=2.278, 95% CI 1.836 to 2.719; ziprasidone: SMD=2.536, 95% CI 2.082 to 2.990; and clonazepam: SMD=1.360, 95% CI 0.127 to 2.593. The acceptability was assessed by the incidence of excessive sedation, which showed that ziprasidone and haloperidol were similar with both being superior to clonazepam(sucra: 0.3, 0.7 and 99.0). Ziprasidone had significantly less adverse effects than haloperidol in effects of extrapyramidal system(EPS)(z=5.01, p<0.001). Background The impairment of social function is widespread in the patients with chronic schizophrenia, which seriously affects family, life and work *** The main purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of paliperidone in the treatment of social function in chronic *** A total of 81 patients who met the standard criteria for schizophrenia and long-term hospitalised inpatients were randomly divided into the treatment group and normal control group following a 1-year prospective follow-up study. The reatment group(41 cases) used paliperidone extended-release tablets for reducing dosage, as appropriate, based on the original treatment strategy; and the control group(40 cases) used the former drugs. All patients were assessed using the Positive and Negative Symptom Scales(PANSS), and the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS) was used to assess adverse drug reactions. The Hospitalised Psychiatric Patients' Social Functions Rating Scale(SSPI) was used to assess social function of participants before and after 8 weeks, 6 months and 1 year of *** At baseline there were no significant differences between the two groups in age, duration of illness, educational background and dosage of antipsychotic drugs(converted into chlorpromazine equivalency). There was statistically significant difference in PANSS positive symptoms by interaction effect(Fgroup×time=18.24, df=3237, p<0.001) and time effect(Ftime=21.66, df=3, p<0.01) and the difference in PANSS positive symptoms by grouping effect(Fgroup=0.68, df=1, p=0.41) was not statistically significant. The difference of grouping effect of PANSS negative symptoms(Fgroup=9.93, df=1, p=0.002), time effect(Ftime=279.15, df=3, p<0.001) and interaction effect(Fgroup×time=279.15, df=3237, p<0.001) were statistically significant.
