Subthreshold micropulse laser versus intravitreal anti-VEGF for diabetic macular edema patients with relatively better visual acuity

AIM:To compare the effects of yellow(577 nm)subthreshold micropulse laser(SML)and intravitreal(IV)anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)treatment in patients with diabetic macular edema(DME)with relatively better visual acuity[best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)≤0.15 log MAR].METHODS:The medical records of 76 eyes of 47 patients underwent IV(0.5 mg)anti-VEGF injection or SML for the DME with relatively better BCVA were *** IV group received three consecutive monthly IV anti-VEGF injections,then were retreated as *** laser treatment group was treated at baseline and 3 mo,and then retreated at 6 and 9 mo if *** participants were followed up for one *** mean BCVA and mean central macular thickness(CMT)values changes over the follow-up were ***:Twenty-four and 23 patients were assigned to the SML and IV subgroups,*** mean number of treatments was 3.64±0.76 in SML group and 5.85±1.38 in IV group(Pn BCVA score at baseline and at the 1st and 3rd months,but the score of SML group was better than that of IV group at the 6th,9th,and 12th months(Pn the mean CMT values from baseline values was higher in SML group at the 6th,9th,and 12th months(PnCLUSIOn:Yellow SML treatment is superior to IV anti-VEGF injection in DME patients with relatively better BCVA for increasing visual acuity and decreasing CMT at 6,9,and 12 *** can be a good alternative first-line therapy for DME with BCVA≤0.15 log MAR.

AIMTo determine the impact of rigid gas permeable (RGP) and silicone-hydrogel keratoconus lenses on the quality of life (QoL) in keratoconus (KCn) patients using the self-reported results from the Contact Lens Impact on Quality of Life (CLIQ) *** January 2013 to April 2013, 27 consecutive KCn patients who wore RGP contact lenses (conflexair100 UV KE Zeiss-Wöhlk) or soft silicone-hydrogel contact lenses (SHCLs) for KCn (KeraSoft IC- Bausch&Lomb or Hydrocone Toris K-Swiss lens) completed the CLIQ *** mean age of 27 patients was 29.6±8.0y. Fifteen patients were RGP user. The groups were comparable with respect to the mean patient age, sex, and mean K values (P=0.1, P=0.8 and P=0.1, respectively). The mean CLIQperson measure was 42.8±5.5 in RGP group and 39.6±5.5 in SHCLs for KCn group (P=0.06). CLIQperson measure was positively correlated with steep K value (r=0.301, P=0.04). When eyes were stratified by visual acuity with contact lenses, the mean CLIQperson measure was 42.01±5.6 in eyes with a visual acuity of 20/20-20/25 (n=44) and 38.4±5.26 in eyes with a visual acuity of 20/32 or less (n=10; P=0.097).COnCLUSIOnRGP lenses and SHCLs for KCn have similar impact on QoL.

In this paper,an improvement has been made to the approximation technique of a complex domain through the stair-step approach to have a considerable accuracy,minimize computational cost,and avoid the hardship of manual work.A novel stair-step representation algorithm is used in this regard,where the entire procedure is carried out through our developed MATLAB *** C-grid is used in our approximation with(1/120)°grid *** a test case,the method is applied to approximate the domain covering the area between 15°-23°n latitudes and 85°-95°E longitudes in the Bay of *** with the approximation of the land-sea interface,coastal stations are also *** land-sea interfaces and coastal stations are found to be in good agreement with the actual ones based on the similarity index,overlap fraction,and extra fraction *** method can be used for approximating an irregular geometric domain to employ the finite difference method in solving problems related to long *** a test case,shallow water equations in Cartesian coordinates are solved on the domain of interest for simulating water levels due to the nonlinear tide-surge interaction associated with the storms April 1991 and AILA,2009 along the coast of *** same input except for the discretized domain and bathymetry as that of Paul et al.(2016)is used in our *** results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the observed data procured from Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

背景:粘液表皮样癌是发生在大小涎腺的最常见的恶性肿瘤，我们研究的目的是要确定显着影响生存率的粘液表皮样癌的临床特点。设计:回顾性研究方法:对2003年至2011年在华中科技大学同济医学院口腔医学中心颌面外科治疗的40例患者进行回顾性临床分析。其临床特征、病理分级和生存率之间的关系所用到的统计方法是Kaplan-Meier生存分析和log-rank检验。结果:5年存活率和无瘤生存率分别是80.8%和60.7%。在单变量统计学分析时，影响生存率的显著性因素是是患者的年龄、T地位、n现状、临床分期和病理分级;影响无瘤生存率的显着因素是患者的年龄和组织学分级。结论:在我们的研究中，我们发现患者的年龄和组织学分级对生存率有重要影响。手术的目标是完整的切除病区，高级别的粘液表皮样癌应该辅助放疗，同时可以降低中分化的和低分化的粘液表皮样癌的复发。

Currently insect pest management solely depends on chemical pesticide that continuously affects on environment, biodiversity, animal as well as human health. Outbreak of secondary insect pest is also the cost of pesticide use in field leading crop more vulnerable to more pests. These negative impacts of pesticides have provoked growing interest in the adoption of multi-function agricultural biodiversity that promote pest management, creating interesting challenge for traditional approaches to regulatory compliance. To address multi-function agricultural practice, we tested several intercropping systems with mustard and their effect on pest management. Our results revealed that intercropping systems mustard with onion, garlic, radhuni and coriander significantly reduced pest population over sole crop. However, intercropping mustard with wheat and gram increased pest population in mustard field. This result indicated that all crops are not suitable for intercropping system. Among the tested intercropping systems, mustard with onion and coriander significantly reduced branch and flower infestation and increased pod formation per plant. These four intercropping systems did not significantly affect on honeybee pollinator which are crucial for mustard crop yield. A significant linear relationship was also found between honeybee population and pod formation. Our results indicate that suitable intercropping system can be a potential multi-functional agricultural practice for pest management in mustard crop.
